I get the loud constant siren. The manual says it is a processor temperature overheat siren, but this is it's first boot.

I have been waiting for a month on an NCIX EVGA 680i RMA. I was so looking forward to firing up Episode One tonight, now this?!?!

All power cables are plugged in.
I am using a bad axe 2 and OCZ XTC rev.2 RAM with a e6400 proc and an 8800gts320mb.

All of this hardware worked fine with my evga 680i until it blew (except the RAM which NCIX let me RMA as well because I figured it was fried by the mobo as well).

So the only new components are the mobo itself and my ram.

Everything seems to look peachy keen inside the system, but it keeps sirening. Maybe it is the ram like you said. Any thoughts?

Can anyone help me please? Thank you!

did you remember to use thermal paste?

orwell
06-05-2007, 04:04 AM
yes. also, this is first boot ever, even without the paste, I don't think the proc would heat up to critical levels in 1ms would it? Anyway, please help me!!

Some of the many things to remember;

Thermal paste on cpu/HS.

Properly install CPU/HS(level and flush and tight).

CPU fan connector.

Any of those help?

maybe, if there's too much voltage...

usually a cpu overheat is usually caused by no, or cheap thermal paste. also, it could be the heatsink isn't seated right.. or the fan isn't working.

guys, I am saying this is first boot EVER for this setup, I press power, and get a steady tone, no post.

I know steady tone is supposed to be a proc overheat siren (as indicated on page 101 on the bad axe 2 manual), but this is not happenng. The proc fan is spinning, I used the correct amount of paste, and installed the fan flush and perfect as well.

bad board or bad proc.

But, you have to ask yourself "why the cpu overheat siren"; maybe checking again would be in order, only you can decide.

bring it to a local shop, they usually do free diagnostics.. they'll tell exactly whats wrong and you can move from there..

ok, I don't mean for this to sound rude, just a nice question.
but how would the proc overheat in the 1 millisecond from the time i press power to the time the horn comes on. I don't see that the proc could overheat that fast.

I think you are thinking that I've been running it and then am getting this problem. But I just got this board outta the mail and installed it. This is first boot (attempt). I do not see how the proc could possibly over heat that fast even "if" I had no fan or paste "and" a space heater pointing into my case.

even "if" I had no fan or paste "and" a space heater pointing into my case.

Try it and see what happens.:) Suckers get hot very very fast.

actually its quite possible. electricity is instant, meaning voltage and wattage is there soon as you hit go. i built a p4 socket 478 prescott system a couple years back, and it had the SAME problem. it was the thermal paste/pad. use arctic silver, not the stock pad, they don't conduct or spread heat well at all, especially intels.

ok noob question time. Might I have crushed my proc? I don't think I did, and have no reason to think i did, but could that have maybe happened?

Check pins on socket, doubt you crushed CPU.

just to make sure...is the PCIe power connection plugged into the card? i have heard of similar errors, a "loud constant siren", when the video card did not was not plugged directly to the PSU.

ok stupid me! BAW. I forgot to plug the PCI-E power to my vidcard.

I did that, now the siren is 100% gone.

New problem though.

nothing happening! I boot. the fans all spin, hdds spin up, but nothing appears on the monitors!, i switched monitors, nothing, they are all in standby and not responding. any ideas?

try reseting your cmos.

try just one stick of memory at a time.

glad i could help with your first problem :). as RandomMurderer said, you could try to reset your CMOS; quite often, when your PC will power on but does not have a display, the cause is most likely to be bad settings.

hm...you should also post your system specs as it often helps to diagnose the problem.

This is a good question, did you happen to pop the cd or dvd in to install your OS, and set your dvd/cd drive as a 1st boot device? :D

This site freaking owns! Thanks for the fast replies!

System Specs:
Intel Bad Axe 2
e6400
2x1GB Ocz XTC .rev 2
evga 8800gts320

I have never reset CMOS, so I am looking up how to do that now.

Again, you guys are really smart guys and I appreciate your help. People like you make the internet more than a compilation of flames and smartarses! Thanks alot!

your 8800 explains the siren, lol!
if an 8800 doesnt have the power plugged in it sounds an alarm!

Try installing a different fan on the motherboard's connector because the one you have might have lost pwm reading. Also, if that does not solve your problem make sure you are using the right connector. The one for a cpu fan not just any other connector on the motherboard:o

Sorry, didn't see that last reply...:slap:

LOL YEP! you forgot to plug the PCI-E Power Connector to your GeForce 8800 graphic card. It happened to me one time because I forgot to connect the connector to my card. Does your power supply have a PCI-E connector (6Pin)? if not use the "6 pin PCI-E power cable" which included in the package/box of your graphic card.

To Reset/Clear CMOS (Most MB. Check your user guide to make sure):

"TURN OFF" your computer. "UNPLUG POWER CORD" from power supply.

"REMOVE" the Battery on MB

Look for a "3 pins with a Jumper" (should look like this [||]|)on your MB, which labeled "Clear CMOS" (or something like that) next to the jumper.

"REMOVE" the Jumper (Jumper is default set to "pin1 & pin2")

"CONNECT" the Jumper to "pin2 & pin3"

"WAIT" for 10-30 seconds. Then "CONNECT" the Jumper back to "pin1 & pin2"

"INSTALL" the Battery back. "PLUG" the Power Cord to power supply. "TURN ON" your computer.

That's how your clear/reset the CMOS on most MB. Hopefully your system will post. If not, try to hold your CPU heatsink-fan and GENTLY pull it UP (DO NOT make the heatsink to dettach from the processor surface. Or you'll need to re-apply the thermal paste) so your MB will be straighten out; because sometimes when you install your MB and you accidently screw it to your case MB tray too tight, result: bending/stress your MB a little at the Processor area, and causing the Processor's pins not fully atttached to its socket.
That might correct and make your system to post. Good luck. Good night :) .
