hi all,
I am compiling a new box:
motherboard: MSI P965 Platinum
cpu: Core 2 Duo E6600
ram: G.SKILL 2x1GB PC2-6400 5-5-5-15
gpu: Geforce 7600 GT
cooler: Scythe Mine or Thermaltake Big Typ VX
case: CoolerMaster Praetorian 732
hdd: undecided, maybe the raptor-x + my old sata drives
I am wondering if this is a balanced system, any thoughts on bottlenecks and
compatibility?
I am also undecided on the case there are too many choices and designs...

I personally would go with a better card than that.
Especially with the e6600. At the very least I would go with an 8600
Optimally, I would say 8800 or 2900

Yeah, your graphics card is way too weak. However, I think it is a good system if you plan to upgrade the graphics card down the road once DX10 is more mainstream. The 7600GT will get you by until then.

Change out the mobo for the new P35 chipset. ~500 MHz fsb + support for 45nm 1333fsb cpu's...
Can you wait 6 weeks? Price drop coming in july sometime...

Thanks, I was thinking exactly the same thing. I dont think the 8600gt is a good card (not even compared to the 7600GT) and i dont want to pay much more than that anyway. I feel the money is better spent on a faster HDD instead for example. Maybe one of those with flash ram
on them...

Hey, thanks! It may be worth to wait a bit to get a really good upgrade path for the future.
