I have the Nforce4 chipset and today it's been getting hotter than usual. It usual idles around 42* C and load of about 45* C. Now it's getting to around 49*C load. It has an active cooler on it and a 80 mm fan blowing at it also. Is this safe? Thanks.

Is the ambient temp abit warmer, doesnt take much to make things get hotter!

I wouldnt worry too much, aslong as your stable thats all that matters and its not like its hitting 80*c or anything crazy :)

well I dont know about the chipset temps but its not that much higher then what you where getting and is the room hotter cuz that well make the comp hotter;)

My CPU is the same temps, but it has a really good cooler. I did notice my case temp was up; usually around 85* F and today it's hitting 90* F. I just turned the air down and pulled a fan closer lol.

50 is warm on a DFI but i believe the shutdown is @ 60*c . are the temps adjusted in bios so that the fan will run full speed?

No, I use the ITE Smartguardian to make the fan go to full speed. That's around 7000 RPM.

buy an AIR CONDITIONER???????????....lol J/K when i first got home today it was 90 outside and even with a 3rd party chipset cooler it was @42 when i got to her. Usually shes @ 34 and 37 load!

for NF4 i think that temp is still safe, if you not sure just check the thermal paste, is it still in good condition or not?

nVidia nF4 MCP has no internal temperature sensor nor is there one anywhere nearby it so the reading you're worried about is not chipset temperature.

And since I myself have a DFI nF4 Lanparty (Ultra-D) too, I happen to know the temp sensor is the bright yellow little bubble-looking component on the left side of the upmost one of the 3 big heatsinks on the right side of CPU socket.

It's labeled as "RT22" on the silkscreen.

On stock cooling, my NF4 idles at 56c, loads to 62c. On water it was in the high 30s idle, mid 40's loaded. You temps are fine, pbmaster, if that's what you are actually reading.

@largon - my NF4 does have a temp sensor on it. How else do you explain a 20c drop in temps using Smart Guardian, when the only change was a waterblock on the chipset? It went back up 20c when I had to return it to stock cooling, because my waterblock and video card hsf try to occupy the same space.

I'm not saying that's the reading he's looking at, but some nf4 chips do have thermal sensors.

I actually asked nVidia about if there's a sensor in nF4...

I actually asked nVidia about if there's a sensor in nF4...I believe you, but mine does have a thermal sensor in it. So, either the tech guy was lying, he was mistaken, there are different revisions with different features (in this case, that being a thermal sensor), or some other variable that we haven't considered.

Well the temperature I'm reading from Smartguardian says Chipset on it so I was assuming thats what the temp was for lol...in any case, I feel better about it now. Thanks guys.
