AMD Ships ATI Radeon HD 2400 And ATI Radeon HD 2600

6/11/2007 2:10:13 AM Monday, AMD (AMD) said that it is now shipping ATI Radeon HD 2400 and ATI Radeon HD 2600 graphics processors in volume to its board customers. According to the company, the ATI Radeon HD 2400 and ATI Radeon HD 2600 deliver feature-rich DirectX 10 gaming and high definition video for Windows Vista. Further, the company noted that graphics cards based on these processors are expected to be available at online retailers within a few weeks from board customers including Asus, Club 3D, Diamond Multimedia, GeCube, Gigabyte, HIS, MSI, Palit, PowerColor, Sapphire and VisionTek.

The company noted that both graphics processors feature AMD's innovative Unified Video Decoder technology, a hardware feature that offloads video decoding from the CPU to the Graphics Processing Unit to significantly lower system power consumption.

AMD also clarified that Unified Video Decoder is present in the ATI Mobility Radeon HD 2300, the ATI Radeon HD 2400 and the ATI Radeon HD 2600 series products, but not in the ATI Radeon HD 2900 series products as it is not needed due to the usage model of this high end product.

3600 in 3Dmark 06 for the 2600? Shame, I was hoping 2 2600's would crush my 8800GTS and not have the power issue the 2900 has. No way I'm swapping my 8800 with those numbers.

Nevermind a 8800GTS, it's abysmal compared to even the older X1800XT/X1900XT/X1950GT/Pro/XT cards, even the 8600GTS which is slower in most games compared to the X1950 Pro is miles faster than the HD2600XT!

It is an inherent problem with ATI's shader heavy design. The top models have high enough texture fill rates to get the job done in most games while tearing up in shader heavy games, but the lower models have such low texture fill rates that they are hopelessly bottlenecked. Games are becoming shader intensive, but they still need a decent texture fill rate.

yeah but they should offer a bit better performance, considering they are consider ATIs midrange card. They arent performing like a midrange card, more like a low range card.

They'll realize this eventually and come out with 3 or 4 more HD 29XX cards. Those will end up being the midrange cards. That's what they did with the last generation. The x1600XT sucked, the x1650XT was too late and still not that great, but the X1950PRO is nice.

Mid range cards is looking poorer and poorer from both ATI and nVidia, looks like it's either budget card or their much more expensive high end range.

61xx for gddr4 version. With sucky drivers, thats actually really great, so new drivers and heavy overclocking could bring it to 10k in 3dmark 06'

So, improve drivers could up that score a bit, as does overclocking. Power usage was quite low with these cards right? I'll be spending some time now finding out if it's worth it to crossfire two over a 8800gts :)

Theese card arent Hi-End so why should the perform any better that they do? They give u DX10 level graphics for mainstream users thats it.
