I am wondering which Brisbane X2 I should buy. I can afford the 2.5ghz one, but I'm not sure if it can OC as well as the 1.9ghz. Any suggestions?

Let's look at this from different angles.

Depending on your cooling, you buy the 2.5 and OC it to 3.0. Or you buy the 1.9 and OC it to 2.5. Either way, what you can afford will likely reach the speed of a more expensive chip. Mostly just depends on how fast you want it to end up.

The 3600 one. That thing OCs like mad:)

yeah, I know of several folks on here and other forums what have gotten that 1.9GHZ x2 3600+ Brisbane to 3.0Ghz and over with watercooling. I know a few who has it to 2.6ghz on good air cooling.

As cool as that sounds, thats not how it works. ;)

That's because it's all floating around up in the theoreticalsphere.

well this thread kinda just destroyed me.....because i have the brisban 3600 coming in about 4 hours and i was hoping to get 3.0 im actually going to be quite disapointed if i cant even reach the 2.8 im at now....though i know someone with my board who got 3.1 on air so i hold some hope that and i bealive in my skill at overclocking.

I've seen 3200+'s do 3ghz.
I've seen 3200+'s to 2.4ghz.

I've seen my 3700+ do 3ghz out of the box..

Its luck of the draw with any cpu, buying a higher grade is only guaranteeing a better bottom line

I couldn't agree more, overclocking is all a matter of having the luck of the draw. There were plenty of people out there that said I would never get a 939 X2 up over 2.6GHz, they said only Opterons get that high. My 4400+ does it easily, and beyond.

There are also people who struggle to get the E6600 up to 3.6GHz, and again mine does it easily.

I've also had some bad processors too. I had a Pentium D 805 that couldn't do over 2.8GHz no matter what, but when I put my good 805 in the board it did 3.8GHz, so I just got a bad 805.

Personally I don't count on overclocking to get the performance I want, I get the best I can afford and start off with the performance I want, any extra I get from overclocking is nice, but not expected.

Get the X2 3600 with 9,5 multi or the X2 4000 with 10,5 multi.
For the cooling you don't have to spend lots of cash. Just buy the Arctic freezer pro.
Keeps my X2 4000 oc'd to 2,6 @ 35 idle and 44 load.
Don't buy anything higher then the X2 4000 if you are gonna overclock.

Btw my X2 4000 can do 3.0 ghz stable.

I got my 2600+M to 2.992Ghz on air, and it took some work. While my 3700+ can do 3ghz without even flinching.

Half the battle is the CPU, the other half is your skill and complementing components :)

You can hand a noob a cascade, 2 sticks of BH-5, and an uber cpu, but that doesn't guarantee results.

Agreed on that. But boy, would I love to have those 3 things you just mentioned ::drool::

Polaris, I think you will be alright and should get 3.0ghz on that x2 3600. Thats an 1100MHZ increase, which is just ridiculous. On my opteron 165 I can get a 1000Mhz (1Ghz) boost on the cpu and the watercooling setup I got keeps it nice and cool. Im utterly amazed at the Athlons.

I think I might go with the 2.1ghz or 2.3ghz. The 1.9ghz 3600 is too low for me, and the 2.5ghz probly wont OC too well.

That will do just perfect.:toast:

Well I finally re-energized my 3700+ setup.

301x10 1.4v.

This is an early E6 too... so...

I would sure hope a brisbane gets close to 3ghz if not well over.

go with the 4000+ it uses a 10/ 10.5 multiplier and will let you hit 3.0ghz easier. They almost always do it 3.0

Im still trying to think what he meant by that ::rofl::

EDIT: Damn, I just got it. I mean Solaris. Polaris, Solaris, sound so much alike ::rofl:: Are ya'll twins by chance?

If you can afford go with a higher multi processor. You can always lower the multi if you need to and higher chances of going 3Ghz+ easily. If Arctic Freezer can do why spend money on 3600 X2 + exotic cooling?

Right now can get a X2 4400 (Brisbane) + ECS mobo for $99. No rebates. Even the dumbest mobo will take that CPU to 2.8.:D

OR if ur mobo can handle go with this one
