I managed to get a decent looking gateway computer that was stripped of all its parts save for its motherboard (C51GU01) and powersupply. The machine was once a fairly high-end package from the looks of it, a gateway GT5032 that once had an Athlon 64 X2 4200+. I've been in need of a new machine, still stuck with the rapidly aging athlon XP series 2400+.

However, I'm hesitant to start buying parts for it due to its apparent lacking of any familiar heatsink mounting bracket. It uses socket 939, but unlike what I've commonly seen, has 4 mounting screw holes instead of 2. The said holes had screws that bit right into the panel the board mounted to. I'm imagining it had some form of more proprietary passive cooling block, but gateway tech said any socket 939 heatsink should fit.

Were, or were there not plastic brackets that once fit it? Could I find some somewhere that would? Is there an affordable heatsink that would mount right to the holes?

I've spent the past several hours trying to find brackets, or perhaps heatsinks that come with brackets, or perhaps heatsinks that don't need brackets. Retail units appear to need brackets... oi, I'm so confused by this point.

Thats a BTX board right? The original heatsink was rather large and covered with a plastic cowling to pusk airflow over the CPU from the front air intake fan.

I believe an artic freezer pro 64 will fit. Check with TPU user Athlon X2, he once had the same board.

Actually, yes, a large green duct that had a large, perhaps 80mm fan in it I believe. Currently have that sucker in my old HP to help push the air around...

Actually a 120mm fan,
I got the same Mobo(GT 5056) but with stock cooling(see specs <<<).
