Well this seems to take the cake: I am in search of an Opteron 146, Socket 940, with E4 Stepping. I even have a part #: OSA146FAA5BK or OSA146BKBOX, though it seems no one carries them... including AMD!!!!
I have found one place who says they can get it... for $207.66. It is suppose be be based on the Venus core series, but everything I have seen in the Venus series is Socket 939... which I can't use as I have a ASUS SK8V Mobo which is a Socket 940 board. Part of the reason I need the E4 Stepping is I want to experiment with 64 bit Virtual Machines and my Opteron 144 (Socket 940) has CG Stepping which will NOT support 64bit Virtual Machines.
Does anyone know why these CPUs are so hard to come by? Is there a problem with them that caused therm to be scrubbed? Any insight as to where I can find one of these elusive beasts would be helpful.:banghead:
