So, from the mutual agreement between me and a few members of the forum, i have decided to sell my current cooler, See here (http://forums.techpowerup.com/showthread.php?t=32763)\ and get a nicer/better cooler.
Thermal Right Ultra 120 extreme (http://www.ncixus.com/products/23531/ULTRA-120-EXTREME/THERMALRIGHT/)
Zalman 9700 (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16835118019&ATT=35-118-019&CMP=OTC-Froogle)
Fan i will use (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835129030)
Please keep in mind that this is going on a pentium d 945, i do plan to overclock, that the reason for a new cooler, So has to be more for the D series than the c2d
so pick on i chose or you pick, I was thinking about $65 wich is enough to get the ultra xtrm, i do have a 120mm fan already also! so let thoughts of creative imagination flow!

I say the Thermalright right now, but I'm about to try out the ASUS silent knight and see how that works. Good luck.

Thermalright... hands down.
I do not have personal experiance with it... so take my advice worth that.
But from everything I have seen, it beats out everything else

I have the regular Ultra-120 on my Pentium D 805 right now and it does the job very nicely even with running a rather large voltage through it. Under 100% load after 24 hours it hits 70C, which is actually damn good for a 90nm Pentium D with 1.5v running through it. I am also using a very similar Antec 79CFM fan to what you are looking to use.
I do have the Ultra-120 Extreme sitting next to me, but I am waiting for the funding to finish the rest of my new machine before using it.
There are down sides to the cooler though. The base is very poorly machined. Lapping is pretty much a must, I didn't lap my regular Ultra-120 before mounting it and I really am wishing I did. I am sure it could keep temps below 70C under full load if I had lapped it.

70c is HOTTT,
I do plan to lap it if i get that one, i just don't want to drop $70 on a cooler and it only give me a few c drop.

you should also consider the Scythe Infinity... received it yesterday, and my load temps dropped from +55°C to 45°C (orthos running for 3h). great cooler + totally inaudible, just make sure it does fit into your case (that thing REALLY is a behemoth).

Try if you can find the 3Rsystems Ice Age cooler. Very nice and very good.

@technicks it looks like the thermal right......

The ice age cooler I believe performs like a Scythe similar to its look, but it has the copper pipes drirectly connected to the cpu area (lol, cpu area, Im ill today so no work :(). if it didnt have those little cracks between the pipes than it would perform even better and maybe be as good as the ultra extreme.

The Thermalright is already pretty price. I would lay down the extra cash for the Titan or a MACS. I'm considering to buy one myself to.:banghead: Low on cash this month.

Indeed, 70C is hot, but under normal use a processor will never see 100% utilization for 24 hours straight, I just did it to test stability. 70C is certainly a lot better than the 78C I was getting with the stock cooler at stock voltages at stock speeds.:shadedshu

That's impressive.
I thought that i read somewhere that the Titan and the MACS were pretty similar.
But either way they are both very good coolers. But also pretty expensive.
On the other hand a basic watercooling kit is about the same price. And mostly they do not perform very well.

i like the titan because it said it was designed for high heat output, but i can't find it! anybody know where you can get it? or how much it is?

I dont like the stickers on the Amanda Titan lol, they should ship it with a choice of stickers :).
Theses have striked my interest, I think I would go with the Mac Monsoon II Lite CLT-M2LA they say in that review link that it performs the same as the bigger Monsoon II CLT-M21.

Is that on a P4?
DAMN.
Those suckers put out a shit ton of heat.

Using my XP-90C and a normal 90mm fan...
Quiet.. and cool...
Sucks to have a dual core.

Thats on my Pentium D 805, which is essentially 2 Prescott Pentium 4s in the same package.

Here's some charts to help you compare air coolers:
http://images.anandtech.com/graphs/cooler%20master%20gemini%20ii_04290750452/14550.png
http://img.techpowerup.org/070516/airfanscomparison.gif
Note that the Monsoon II Lite is on that graph, and the Thermalright Ultra 120 eXtreme outperforms it by about 7 degrees.
Now note the temps for the reviews of the Amanda Titan: @load: 42degrees... a 5 degree difference, although they're testing on a P4, which notably runs hotter. So definitely the Amanda Titan is a sick piece of cooling action, but, how much extra performance are you getting for how much extra money?
My vote is Def for the Thermalright Ultra 120 eXtreme. I'm getting one of those myself (as soon as I get the money :p)

Don't look at charts they don't mean sh#t. I bought the Scythe Ninja last week and it performed very bad for it's price. I put my 20 euro Arctic Freezer back on and temps are 3/4 degrees lower then with the Scythe. And it's ranked high on the chart.;):)

I'm very happy with my Zalman 9700, I've owned nothing but Zalman coolers and have never had a hot processor. Its extremely quiet and cool. On the Auto fan setting in BIOS I never hear anything out of my case and these are my temps...if I disable fan control in BIOS it become audible but tolerable and I idle at 21-22C. I also just put my computer together mere days ago, so I might be expecting a small drop in temperature when the AS5 sets in.

i had a 9700 and it did really well, but i didn't have good air flow through my case so i took it back and bought a better case. Then i bought a tt big wat 745 leaked, screwed up my mobo, returned it, bought the mobo i have now, and then i got the ac and it doesn't do real well, So yeah, i know the 9700 will do well with good airflow, and the ultra 120 xtrm supposedly will do even better. So thats why i picked those 2

Don't look at charts they don't mean sh#t. :slap:
Ofcourse there may be some statistical variance within the sample of any particular component, and I'm sorry you got a poorly performing model, however charts are completely meaningful and wouldn't exist if this weren't the case. I challenge you to engineer anything successfully with your methodology of "Just Try it see if it works."
Our world, this forum attempting to be a prime example thereof, is based on data.

go water cooling. The TT are know (water coolers anyway) to have leak issues.
you could also get the all copper geisha fan shaped TT cooler. It out performs the Zalman 9700 which is considered by MaximumPC, CPU, PC Magazine as the best air cooler around. It beat it by 2 degrees and is priced lower. However, I did vote for the Thermalright Ultra 120 Extreme. I just hate the nickel plating on it they used.

i got to looking, and i'm not quite sure if it will fit. I mean the ultra 120 will fit, my ac has about 2 extra inches of space left, so if it does fit, it will just barely fit! the AC freezer 7 pro is 4.98" and the thermal right xtrm is 6.31 so it's only 1.33" taller, so it might fit, but not quite sure................what do you think? i am almost 100% sure thats the one i want

Done! bought the thermal right! should get it sometime next week.
I'll post results!
