I put my new rig together last night with the Abit Fatality Micro ATX board. I am having a similar problem that I normally have with new builds, but I don't know how to fix this one. After I boot from my Windows installation CD and I format, copy over the Windows files for the first time, the computer restarts but then all I get is a black screen like it can find my hard drive. I know it has something to do with not having the sata drivers installed for the motherboard, but Abit's website doesn't list and drivers for this board. Apparently the only way to flash the bios for this board is to initiate it in Windows. (not good for me...) :banghead:

When you say "copy" files over for windows, what do you mean?
Generally, new motherboard = new installation of windows. There are too many new devices to simply copy or restore an old installation from a different motherboard. It is possible, but highly not reccommended.
Perhaps I'm telling you something you already know.

When I do a fresh install of Windows I format my hard drive. After formatting my hard drive Windows setup files are loaded onto the hard drive. When this process finishes, the computer reboots and attempts to boot off of the hard drive for the first time to complete the Windows installation. My problems exists when my computer attempts to boot off my sata drive for the first time.

And when the system reboots I am sure that you took out the floppy disk(if you used one)? And I am sure you remembered to change the boot order to boot from the sata drive first?
Otherwise I would check the connections and maybe try to format/try again? Have you the latest bios for that board?

I didn't use a floppy disk, completed all of the steps you mentioned. The only way to update the bios on this particular motherboard is to do it within Windows.
I am researching how to make a sata driver floppy disk now. I think that might make it work. Not sure though...

Would you be so kind as to give me the model number for that motherboard? Then maybe I can do some more research for you. :toast:

Damn Abit... I recall on my old AG8 board having to use the driver CD to get the gigabit ethernet drivers installed. In your case, sounds like a floppy is the only route - can you boot from the driver CD that came with the board? If not, a floppy may be your only choice.

There is a point in Windows setup that says to press F6 to load drivers. Is it possible that I could use the CD that came with the motherboard to load some drivers at that point?

F6 is for loading Raid or SCSI drivers I believe. At least, it does that with my ABIT motherboard. One thing I noticed about Abit, is, it can be finicky with the placement of booting and leaving in of the windows CD. SATA benefits, aside from the obvious, are no master and slave settings. If its a new HDD, try looking at the manual. It may have a way you are supposed to set it up when loading windows for the first time. WD is notorious for that.
Ive done installs with SATA drives on both systems Ive built and not had any problems like you are experiencing. If you have another computer, you might be able to slip stream it in the windows cd so its loaded that way.

You know it's funny...
I have built tons of computers and all of a sudden and I have started having these stupid ass problems. Anyway, I am at work right now. I am going to try some more things when I get home this afternoon.
Thanks!

You shouldn't ever need to install Sata drivers pre-windows boot... on anything new. It should work just like an IDE drive would.
Does anything come up on the screen at all? Or is it solid black?

Once my computer restarts after the initial Windows startup, the screen comes up completely black. I don't think I have left it on long enough to see if something comes up. (I prob left in on for about 30 seconds with a black screen)
My other system board did this same thing. Once I did a bios update, the problem was gone.
The stupid Abit Fatality board doesn't allow you to flash the bios outside of Windows.

For your information windows XP doesn't have a SATA drivers in them. YOu'll need a floppy disk. Your motherboard should come with a floppy that says "Sata drivers" or something. Before windows loads the file, they'll ask if you wanna install 3rd party drivers or stuff. You'll need to press that (guess it was F8 or F11 i forgot) and load it from your floppy if your hard disks are in raid.

Did you find what u needed pc??:D
Also was kinda curious if you ever got your tiger workin on vista from my previos post
If u dont have it already http://downloads.guru3d.com/download.php?det=1634
http://m0001.gamecopyworld. com/games/pc_tiger_woods_pga_tour_2007.shtml
Here are the three steps:
1) Go to the link above and scroll down to the file that is marked Tiger Woods PGA Tour 07 v1.0 [ENGLISH/FRENCH] Fixed EXE. Click on the little square underneath the file name, and you should be re-directed to a list of mirrors: Click on one of them. Download the compressed file and extract it to your desktop.
2) Delete the TWP_2007 file in your .bin folder of your Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2007 folder in your C:\Program Files. After you have done this, just drag and drop the two extracted files into the .bin folder.
3) Delete any remaining shortcuts on your desktop or Start menu, and create a new shortcut for the new TW_2007 exe file for your desktop.
Try all of that and let me know if it helps.

Dude you're aren't allowed to link to a file from gamecopyworld unless you have the game itself. You can only do it provided if you have problems running the game even if you had the original. It was at the main page www.gamecopyworld.com

It's a known issue on tiger woods 07 and that my friend is the only fix:toast:
You can have the disk or the download version and sometimes vista will let it sometimes not?
This lets u play the game you spent your money on!:banghead:

This only applys to non primary channel Sata chipsets... where it was/is an external chip providing the connection and requires a driver.
If the Sata is integrated into the chipset, you shouldn't need drivers to install windows.
If it sees it in setup, you don't "need" drivers to operate.
