Hey all, just wondering if these temps are fine, 45-50°c idle and when gaming or doing something that needs heavy cpu processing it goes to 60-70, My rooms temperature is about 34-36°c, thats with the electric fan. It sure is hot here in the Philippines, oh and btw I'm running a P4 640 Fc-775, I heard these guys run hot due to its netburst stuff. Ne way it's my 1st time on Intel chips again, my last Intel rig was a p2 166 lol, and after that used amd till my last amd xp mobo shorted out. Oh lastly Im using stock HSF. :( d*mn pushpins took me 3 hours to figure out how to make them lock lol *forgive me*
lastly I need some advice although its off topic, should I get 2x1gb pair of ram for this rig, it's kinda a temporary rig but I plan to use this for a year or half til new chips and vcards are out. right now I'm running 2x512 on single channel (limited by ram coz 1 ram is single and another is double sided).
Thanks in advance, :D :rockout:

Some of the P4 chips do get a bit hot but 70C sounds a little too much - I would class 65C as the absolute maximum you should let your CPU run at myself, you might want to invest in some better cooling if you can. As for the ram, you might as well go for it if you game a lot - what videocard do you have at the moment?

Have you ever checked your temperatures when the room was cooler?
With my room at 24 degrees I idle at 33 and load at 58.
But today my room's nearly 30 degrees and I'm idling at 42 and load temperature is 62.
I'm hating to think what my temperatures could be in late July - August when my room temperature would be hitting 35 degrees... :ohwell:
(Btw I'm not talking about game load temperatures but orthos temperatures. Running The Sims 2 which is quite a cpu intensive game my temperatures would be 52-55).

Thanks for the quick reply, I've read most of your posts and they're quite helpful from other threads here, the one that I made bold is the one I don't get, what do you mean "CPU run at myself"? Sorry If I didn't understand you, Uhm as for the Vcard I have a 7600GS Sonic from PALIT, so far there are only 2 distributors of quality cards here in Philippines 1 is PALIT and the other is Inno3D for nvdia side, but for ATI there is Power Color and Sapphire, as to changing HSF, there are very limited stores here which sell good or average HSF, I saw 2 options :( 1 was ASUS VR Guard, a huge hsf assembly with a back plate, the other 1 is just I heard from a tech guy, Cooler Master MARS or something like that, Well the temps I state above, I thought was an improvement coz when I 1st ran the system it idles at 60c and games at 81-90c rofl!!! Scary to melt the mobo :( or something lol
Thanks again for the quick reply ! Hope to hear from you and others soon :D I'll be online for some hours :D its 11:30pm here lol

Right now I moved my pc to parents room as they are not here, and running aircon unit on, PC sits doin nuthing intense like posting forum and surfing, temps at 40-45, gaming, Oblivion = temps 50-60

Sorry, that might sound clear like this:

I'm just saying that is my personal view on how hot CPUs should run. Basically try to keep it under 65C if possible. Sounds like your system would probably benefit from more ram so if you can afford it then give it a go - some games will really benefit from 2GB of dual channel.

Oh, I see, thanks jim, anyway as for ther RAM, I'll try to get it for my birthday lol, gonna try to save pay from work, as this system is new coz my 754 system died lol it was kind of a remedy system till more intel cpu drop prices lol but I hope this 865 agp board will suffice for now, btw I tried running CnC3 for an hour while waiting for more replies, lol it ran at 60c with 8 computer ai on a map hehe, oh btw can I ask another question? Can you help me configure speed fan for my mobo? As it does'nt read cpu fan speed it returns 0. Thanks

The stock heatsink is painfully weak. 70C isn't dangerous, and the netburst P4s run very hot, so 70C isn't something I would worry about. Especially with ambient temps in the 34C range.

I see, darn how I hate my place lol so hot!!!!!!! Hm what about speed fan settings? It reads cpu rpm as 0, but I know it throttles rpm up when its hot.

Might just be that it's incompatible with your motherboard - check the website to see if it's supported.

With a room temp of 34C, I think those temps are actually acceptable if a little bit high. Do you have any case fans?
I don't know how you could stand a room that hot, it was 25C in the UK last week and I was boiling!

Well it's kind of normal here in the Philippines, sorry for the late reply guys but I was busy with work, oh btw I found some aftermarket cooler near us, They only have a Gigabyte 3D Rocket Pro cooler and 2 normal 4 heapipe gigabyte coolers, the dif between the two normal 4 heat pipe coolers was 1 of em has a fan controller... Are these products good?

Wow if i was into 60-70 temps, I would be doing some mods to keep it down,I run a d945 3.4 4mb and my temps are MB 38-40 cpu 43-52 full load.I even have a raptor drive heaten up my case and i am still running cool temps.

Sorry to hear that fbi, yeah living here in a tropical zone hurts and it even hurts more that its hard to find good computer hardware shops here that sell aftermarket coolers :/ sigh, as for PB I'm now happly idling @ 38-44c depending on the temps outside and in my room lol, when gaming it rarely hits insane levels now, its either 52-62c depends on what kind of task is using the cpu, as for my last question,
Are gigabytes cooler good? They're the ones only available. :(
