0.0.22 final has been released: http://atitool.techpowerup.com/ATITool_0.0.22.exe
- lots of fixes based on the great feedback after the 0.0.21 release, critical fixes are already incorporated into the 0.0.21 download
- added option to scanning settings: "disable screensaver while scanning"
- fixed ati fan control. for some reason ati defaults result in fan speeds > 100% to be programmed. this means that any fan speed >75% is actually 100% (cant run the fan faster than 100%). atitool fixes this by setting the right register on the temp. chip.
- moved fan speed registry key so its not lost every time you reinstall atitool

Hi pablofrogo!
Now it has happend: you´re the first to have my problem, which i already posted in the old forum, but no one´s had the same situation, even w1zzard didn´t know what to do about this! if you have fixed this problem, please tell me. i got it, when i upgraded from Cat. 4.5. to 4.7, now 4.9 beta, and my fps sank from ~188 to ~78! i thought, that the new Cat 4.7. was the reason, but I don´t think so now! Also 3D Mark 2003 points were minimized to unbelievable 2130 points, before i had ~5000!!!
hope you have the answer

Yes, i did all you have said! uninstalled atitool 0.0.20, even looked in the registry for any entries; uninstalled cat4.9. beta, again looked in the registry for any other entries, booted in safe mode, ran cab cleaner and the driver cleaner 3 with the instructions the author mentioned! installed cat.4.9.beta from !!!www.ati.com!!!, ran 3dmark03, got 2137 points again, got mad ;-), installed atitool 0.0.22 build 2, overclocked my radeon 9800 pro to the mentioned settings in my signature!!!
i donna know what to do...
first i thought that i destroyed my card when i installed the vga silencer, but after the installation i had a boost about ~ 110 3dmark03 points and about 23 fps more in the 3d window - atitool, AND then i upgraded to 4.9. and the misery began...!!!

I just installed the latest .22 beta but still have a problem with running 3dmark2001se. It just won't start when the 3d detection is enabled. I actually don't think the problem is with xp sp2 and amd64 because it works with atitool 0.0.20.
Does anyone else have problem running 3dmark2001se while atitool 3d detection is enabled??

Hi, I also have a problem starting 3dmark2001se when atitool is running although I'm just using an AMD Athlon 1400MHz (on XP SP2). If I exit atitool then 3dmark2001se will start, with atitool running, it won't.
Another problem I have with atitool is that it executes before mbm5 at startup, and so atitool fails to send the temperature readings to mbm5. I've been able to fix this by using a program called 'myrun' to delay the atitool execution at startup by 10 seconds which allows mbm5 to initialise properly.
Minor niggles anyway, many thanks for atitool W1zzard, it's very useful. :)

Does the fan control override only work when ATI tool is running, or does it "stick" like core/memory core settings once you have closed the program down?
I'm really asking if starting/stopping the program at boot time is enough to have the fan settings changed.
W1zzard
08-26-2004, 09:13 AM
sticks like core/memory .. you dont even have to load atitool on startup if you want the fan control .. when the atitool driver is loaded it sets the fan speeds independant from any main program
sticks like core/memory .. you dont even have to load atitool on startup if you want the fan control .. when the atitool driver is loaded it sets the fan speeds independant from any main program
Ahhh, so you're actually saying that I don't even have to start ATItool at every boot time if I've already set it up with the core/clock/fan settings that I want? (sorry if this is RTFM).
W1zzard
08-27-2004, 08:12 AM
this is only for the fan speeds .. to get your clockspeeds loaded you must load atitool

Wizard, can you make sure the latest version of .22 is in the startpost. Because the forum uses a download per post, you need to find the last post where ATITool is the most recent version. First .22:
http://forums.techpowerup.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=14
Last .22:
http://forums.techpowerup.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=18
So you do not download a direct link to the latest version and this also unecessary polutes the forum with a lot of files.

I have a basic question guys. If you already have an ati tool already installed on your computer, Is it necessary to uninstall the software before installing the new one? If You just install the new ati tool sofware without uninstalling the previous one. What will be the effect? Sorry for my newbie question. Thanks

amd - I just run the installer for the new version and select the 'Repair' option. It seemed to update it O.K.
On another note: Should the fan control work with a built by ATi 9800XT? It doesn't appear to do anything here at the moment (no 'Current Speed' readout either in ATiTool). Driver problem maybe (running the beta doom hotfix cats atm)?

Thanks for the speedy reply. :)
The card is, afaik, a 'built by ATi' card made for Dell. The bios is the latest (afaik) bios for the card offered by Dell which enables the overwise disabled overdrive feature. Bios file is at --> http://ftp1.us.dell.com/video/BR74097.exe
Some details about the card;
Product Description: RADEON 9800XT 256MB AGP DVI-I VGA TVOUT - DELL
BIOS Part Number: 113A18804103
102 Part Number: 102A1880410
RAM Type: Hynix HY5DU573222A
I don't think the fan has ever changed speed tbh, either by watching/listening or viewing temp graphs in webtemp. As a note the 'current speed' in atitool doesn't register any value either. It just doesn't seem to be working for some reason..
atitool still rocks though ;)
edit: Knowing Dell, and their 'funkyness', I guess I just need a new bios file..
I have a question with the new features of atitool 0.0.22. How do you configure the memory timings when you have a gecube 9550 ee vcard? I don't know the default configuration (ras, cas) of the entrontech memory chips.

Hey W1zzard, I got the fan control sorted. I changed from a Dell bios to ATi as listed at http://www.techpowerup.com/bios/ and it now appears to be working. :)
*update: Although the 'current speed' now shows in atitool, and the settings do change when using 'dynamic', etc, it doesn't appear to have any effect on the actual fan speed at all (case open listening/touching fan). Even setting the fan speed in atitool to 0% doesn't stop the fan. I don't think the rpm is changing at all here. :(
The Dell bios that didn't work with fan control was:
http://www.techpowerup.com/bios/Dell.9800XT.256.Hynix25.bin (njrq6129.p06 v611)
The ATi bios that does work (see update) with fan control is:
http://www.techpowerup.com/bios/ATI.9800XT.256.Hynix25.bin (njrq4461.815 v611)
unrelated stuff
Sometimes the temperature values seem to drop out for no apparent reason when the card/cpu (?) is under load, causing small gaps (temp.chip) or a steep drop (gpu) in graphs in webtemp. I think atitool is the culprit as the temp values it displays will occasionally indicate values like "0ºC" or "20ºC". Got a screenie here showing it --> http://www.nanobug.plus.com/temp_afk.gif
...and here's a snippet from the log:
2004-08-29 03:28:14 Temperature: GPU: 71.0°C GPU environment: 49.0°C
2004-08-29 03:28:16 Temperature: GPU: 71.0°C GPU environment: 49.0°C
2004-08-29 03:28:18 Temperature: GPU: 20.0°C GPU environment: 44.0°C
2004-08-29 03:28:20 Temperature: GPU: 20.0°C GPU environment: 44.0°C
*snip*
2004-08-29 03:29:44 Temperature: GPU: 20.0°C GPU environment: 44.0°C
2004-08-29 03:29:46 Temperature: GPU: 20.0°C GPU environment: 44.0°C
2004-08-29 03:29:48 Temperature: GPU: 66.0°C GPU environment: 43.0°C
2004-08-29 03:29:50 Temperature: GPU: 66.0°C GPU environment: 43.0°C
On another note; could it be possible to send the fan rpm to mbm5/webtemp? That'd be great for seeing how it scales speed vs temp.. (and to check that it is working) ;)
Many thanks W1zzard. :)

the total runtime not showing during scan is a bug which probably was introduced by the excessive logging fix
about the fan control not working: could you make a few high res shots of your card backside? i suspect there's more to working fan control than just the one part listed in the article ..
the 20° temp errors will be fixed in next version .. its right that when 3d load is high the card returns wrong values ..
its planned to make the profiles more flexible to save clocks, gamma, fan speeds etc..

If this is possible, what about adding it to the fan controll section: If in idle mode try keeping GPU temp on 45 and, If in loadmode try keeping GPU temp on 70. Because when I use keep GPU temp on 70 and in idle mode my card is 58 whic is too high for idle. But other than that ATI Tool is really a good program for us with ATI cards ;)

anybody test the 3d detection on amd64 sp2 yet?
3d detection working fine with all the applications/games I tried so far: both 3dmarks, ut2004, farcry, jedi academy, kotor, broken sword 3.
I'm running A64 2800+ @ 2.5ghz and a X800pro, with WinXP & sp2.
Just one thing that's been bugging me since I went to A64 (with all versions & builds). Some programs won't run at all at times. Like 3dmark2001, it's just like clicking an empty space. I had it before the latest beta build with many programs and also none of the control panel items wouldt start when atitool was running. With current build it's otherwise okay but still 3dmark2001 won't always run, meaning that I have to reboot and try again and if it still doesn't run, reboot and try again etc... weird stuff.
Nevertheless, atitool is easily the best program for this job. Just this one tiny annoying bug :)
Oh and also ( ;) ) if I choose the option of trying to keep the temperature at a certain value (70 for example). It seems the spinning boost is kicking in only at above 80 and it eases it at 78 degrees already.

Great works W1zzard!!
The notepad bug in A64 with XP SP2 is fixed now.
However 3dmark2001 still won't run if I have atitool 3ddetection enabled.
Could you please check the atitool v 0.0.20 because it's one of the atitools that can work with 3dmark2001. Some of the older atitools (can't remember which version) also don't work with 3dmark2001 so I guess your 3ddetection method in v0.0.20 is the best one. Maybe you can copy it into the new one and that should fix the problem.

Does this mean that the find max core / mem function may work now on X800 cards?
no change in the accurary (yet) .. just the time that it takes for scanning one images reduced a lot

- Some fixes to "try to keep gpu temp at". It will only work while ATITool is running. If you close ATITool fan speeds are set to ATI's defaults
- Fixed temp. reading error which showed 20° on 9800s with high load sometimes
- Disabled creation of file C:\Atitool detection log.txt

Hey, looks like the fan control tab is back on 9600xt(4152)- I don't remember if you actually removed this earlier or put it on the to do list. I was thinking it was gone in earlier versions. I can't find the to do list...

Gratias, although unfortunately it seems worse in this build. :(
The problem seems to change according to how thread priority is set... Anyway I've thrown a ticket on the bug tracker about it, #33 IIRC. :)

Still much the same. I'll run some tests here and post a screenshot or something showing what it's doing..

the hold GPU Temp function is working "a little bit" longer...an more accurate as before !
With Artifact Scanning ,holding the GPU Temp is working well for a few Time.....but then its walking out and the Temp isn't the one i have choosen first.
I used 60C to holding GPU Temp....but after a time it's over 70C again....(my default Temps never over 72C).
Normaly with 80% Speed i can hold easily a Temp of 60C... :)
The custom Fan Speed settings are resetting after rebooting again ,also with the newest beta version....

This last beta build still doesn't work with 3DMark2001
As the 0.0.21 but the 0.0.20 is OK
I hope you'll have a look with this bug because the old versions are OK

W1zzard, sorry, but I can't give you much new info about the 0º / 20º temp problems. I was running some tests earlier today when a hdd croaked, part of a 320gb raid0 stripe. :[[[ Took hours running the tests too!
IIRC 04.0.22 didn't have the problem so much as long as the thread priority was set to 'low'. If it was run at normal priority the problem was much worse, mostly just showing 0º / 20º with the occassional proper reading. I think (?) it did do better than 03.0.22 though.
Man, I don't know, it's been a long day. If I ever recover my data I'll get back on it.. ;)
I'll get around to making some high-res pics of the 9800XT sometime in case you find em useful (to figure out maybe why fan control doesn't work on it).

Really dumb question (for anyone). Will the card/driver/atitool work when *NO* fan is connected? IE: disabling any fan control/beeping/auto-shutdowns? I will be getting my Sapphire x800 Pro VIVO in a couple days. (after being part of the CDW/DELL/"insert company name here" x800 P.E. Pre-order debacle since may) I intend to soft-mod it to the P.E. but it will be watercooled, so no fan will be connected. Am I going to be ok with this or do I need to do something to disable fan monitoring?
The custom Fan Speed settings are resetting after rebooting again ,also with the newest beta version....
I concur and I forget to set them back to normal most of the time resulting in overheated gpu and hard lockup. not good. The fan values reset to zero after reboot .
thanks for the great program though.

Great! thanks. Since you are already watercooling (and since I dont yet have it in my hands) From all I can tell, it looks like the GPU placement (relative to the card), and fan holes, are identical to, say, a 9800 Pro. (since the core is essentially the same) Would you concur? This would mean my current GPU block would work. Secondly, that if the GPU placement is the same I can simply bolt it right in place. (my hoses are all copper, not very flexible. :) ) Second, did you put heat sinks on your GDDR3 ram? Voltage mods needed? (or just BIOS boosting) What kind of core/memory numbers are you getting?
Sorry to pester you but your the first W/C person I have talked to since deciding to go with a Pro VIVO. Rig specs follow...
