hey guys.
today, i got my first (er.... ok, the first that my parents know about that is ;)) pocket knife. i am a bit confusied as to how to clean it.
the knife is a Gerber suspension, HERE (http://www.gerber-tools.com/Gerber-Suspension-Multi-Plier-1471.htm)
how do i clean it? i have heard conflicting stories. some say i should put it in the dish washer, others say dont. I == confused.
i already got a bit sticky this morning when i was bored and made some wicked shapes of plastic out of an empty sprite bottle... i did wash it off with a little water though.

just hand wash it with a little soap just wash the blade by putting your hand with the back of the blade facing your palm and then wash try not to pull the knife because u might miss some of your skin cells for a wile

Yeah pretty much. Be sure to use some kind of light oil to follow to prevent rusting. I personally use a small amount of 3 in 1 oil.
Gerber is an excellent brand knife. I have put on through lots of abuse in an 8 year timeframe and it still holds up just as good as the day I bought it.

If it's just soda pop, rinse it off in water, and dry it off as good as you are able to. Use a light oil (just the tinyiest bit) on the moving parts, and wipe off the excess.

Have you used a rod guided sharpening system? I have one that can make a razor edge in under 5 minutes.
I have three knives that I use.
A Columbia River Knife and Tool point guard kinfe http://www.crkt.com/ptguard.html
A Gerber of some kind, not sure of the model.
A Smith and Wesson Special ops http://www.specialopsknives.com/
All are razor sharp.

I used to and still sometime do, but once you use a rod guide, you wont go back. The small amount of time it takes to get such a PERFECTLY sharp edge makes a regular whet stone pointless.
