i have been working on my problem for a couple of months now, and i am all out of ideas..I NEED SOME HELP!!! the problem is that i am haveing a slight studder/flicker with only the animated graphics(basically any moving graphics), but the background picture are not effected..It takes about 30 min. for this flicker/studder to show its self from the point i boot up. here is the werid thing. Ill reboot and the flicker/studder will be gone. and in 30 min. or so it will slowly come back. it wont freez up the computer at all, it just gets annoyingand slows up the game play... i have replaced the VGA card first and then the memory, then the mobo, and now i just replaced the CPU... so i then moved to thinking that it was the monitor.(check my specs). so i hooked up my 17"CRT last night and ran 3dmark06 all night to test it. in the morning i still have this flicker. after each peice of hardwear i replaced i ran intese tests..each failed..all my my drivers are all current. i also was useing atitool v0.26 then upgraded to the new beta version atitool v0.27 beta1( dont know if anyone is haveing any problems with this beta version).. I also reformated my HDD and reinstalled my OS... AGAIN I NEED SOME NEW DIRECTION....I AM STUMPED...please help me!

Vcard? Have you tested it on another comp? or the monitor test it on another pc? I too got that but a fresh install of drivers got me going, just try uninstall using Driver Cleaner pro and install original non moded drivers for vc....

well the problem started when i was running 2 bfg geforce 7950 gt oc's sli. so i replaced them with one bfg geforce 8800 gtx oc2. and the exact same flicker was there so i ruled out the VGA. ill try the drive cleaner pro..
oh yea and i also used a differant monitor(17"crt)

it could be a power issue or a card over heating issue, is your computer situated near a heat source?

This is a known issue for that model monitor manufactured in CHINA(two versions, the other version made in MEXICO does not have the problem).

no my computer is not near a heat source. it actuly runs pretty cool around 23 deg c. in idle and about 35 deg under load. now my VGA card in idle sits about 60 deg c. and under intense graphics, ive seen it get to about 75-78 deg c. but this card was built to run hot. i called and talked to a bfg tech while researching my problem...
as far as this monitor issue( china- mexico made) the flicker that i am haveing is not the whole monitor picture but just the moving animated graphics... it is very weird
so i uninstalled my VGA drivers and my nforce drivers, ran driver cleaner pro and reinstalled.....still have my flicker/studder... i am up for some more ideas...
if anyone knows or is friends with some tech guys please ask them and or get them involved with this problem of mine. i dont know if this is a hardwear issue or a softwear thing...

Re-install the most recent DX9 release. There may be a bug or glitch somewhere causing it.

What refresh rate are you trying to run on your monitor at what resolution with what kind of connection?

here is a dume question.... could it be a HDD issue.. i did add a WD raptor around when this flicker started

Could be...run HDTach on it, also, maybe run Memtest or Everest/Si Sandra memory/HDD benchmarks.

i did try that. i installed the new end-user 9.0c version. and the only way to unistall and reinstall is to format the HDD

How hot are your NB and SB getting under load and stress? I've heard increasing PCI-e frequency for 8800's helps them with stability at occasions, but do this at your own risk, and generally stay below 120MHz, but I've seen people hit 140+ PCI-e with an 8800.

well i did run memtest to check the stablity of my memory before i replaced all 4 gigs. i dont have a full copy of Si Sandra but i have been using my full copy of 3dmark06 , no problems

In 3dMark06 does your 3d flicker?

What was your HDTach result?

Have you ran Memtest after you replaced all 4 gigs?

its hard to say, i was haveing this flicker before with my 7950 gt oc's. that is why i got the new 8800 gtx. that is also why kinda ruled out the VGA card.. is it posible to have the same problem with two differant cards?

So does it happen right away or after a bit? If it's after a bit, then odds are somethings overheating and getting unstable to an extent. Do you ever get BSOD's?

HDTach is not on 3dmark, HDTach is a seperate test program for HD's only. It's small and easy to find. Google it, download it and use it.

BSOD = Blue Screen of Death, google it to learn more, you'll know if you have had one because windows will show the blue screen and restart.

As far as why you can restart and have another 30 minute window before the flickering starts again is a weird one, but we'll eventually find the source! :toast:

Also, if you know what CPU-z is, even if not, download it, in one of the tabs it will list your PCI-e link speed, which should be at x16. On my board if I tweak too much or OC too far my PCI-e link will go to 1x and that will cause issues for me. That's worth a look also.

I think its time to remove all video software and drivers and then do a drivercleaner...then reinstall motherboard drivers then reinstall .nets then re install a freshly downloaded current version of video soaftware driver pack and install, then more tests....you are using the same install of your operating system right ?

PS do all required reboots.

HDD is used as a cache, games and windows are designed to use it alongside mainboard RAM and video RAM. On top of loading all the info to RAM, it loads levels, stuff for the CPU and GPU to process, the HDD plays a huge part.

Use a program like Speedfan or Everest to watch voltages as you put a load on your system. If they drop a lot (greater than .1v), that could be a problem...

Can you take a screenshot of your HDTach results? It doesn't matter which test at this point, just wanna see the results. Also, in Speefan at the last page, select your HDD, and have it check SMART, also there's a weblink that goes to a site that's a little more thourough. It could show you a problem if there is one.

you know what , i think that might be it, i have an after market LOGSYS lcd 9 and one card reader, tells me about fans rpm and temps and voltages... as a mater a fact. the alarms went off last week about the two case fans that i have plugg into the two FAN ONLY coming out of the PSU

My HDD averages 53MB/s, not 53C on temp! I have it in the lowest position in front of my 2 80mm front intake fans. It still runs warm, but my model is notorious for running warmer than average, still I hit about 38C in the warm weather currently it's 85F in my apt, and 105F outside (I have no AC, but I do have a few fans! :D). :toast:

here is my update..
my old PSU was the antec true power trio 650, the start of my problems is when i started haveing a flicker/studder with my 3d graphics.. first the fan only 4 pin apex died and then the main power cooling fan stopped.. but this didnt happen untill i replaced every piece of hardwear in my system.. one by one with many tests for each new piece.. i talked to a tech for antec and he said that any defect or power surge will effect every piece of hardwear that is attached to the PSU.. so i replaced the power supply with a very nice cooler master 850 pro..nice.. and it gets even better.. there warrenty is now 5 years and they will also replace any hardwear that the PSU is attached if they are damaged by the PSU... real nice..
anyways, i still have this flicker and i sent the GPU to BFG and they RMA tested it and they couldnt reproduce this flicker and said it was OK and sent it back to me....:banghead:
so i now talked to the BFG tech guy in IL. he is saying that it might be a OS problem. i am running XP 64x. so i am now running XP 32bit and i am conducting my tests..
we will see.. any more ideas are appreciated:rockout:

Nice warranty .... wow..WTH!! I am now thinking it has to be a bios setting ....wth else could it be:confused:

if it is a bios setting why is it that it takes about 30+ min or so while running intense graphics for the flicker/studdering to start, but as soon as i reboot the flicker is gone. then it takes about 30 min or so again to start the flickering. if it was a bios setting it should be flickering/studdering all the time..

update... i talked to a supervisor at BFG today and they asked me to send the card back to them in avlon IL. so they can run more intense tests on my card.. he asked me if i thought that the app. ATItool could be causing this flicker/studder.. what does anyone think about this? i am running some tests over night with the ATItool uninstalled..
