Hi all,
my buddy got a 21" wide screen Acer monitor last week, and he's running it at 800 x 600 :slap: I told him that he should use a wide screen resolution. He said "what should i run it at?" I said "IDK, I don't deal with wide screen. Let's see what TPU recommends". Any help would be apperciated. Thanks :toast:

edit- Mike doesn't have a tpu account.

if its widescreen then its either 1680x1050 or 1400x900, a model no would help

You should be able to look up specs and ratings for it on a site like newegg, tigerdirect or even Acer's site.

alot of 21" will run 1920x1080, i think.....but it's under the "hidden" resolutions

for a 21" at least 1680x1050

Really? I thought 21" (and 22") Monitors ran at 16:10 Resolutions such as 1680x1050 and 1400x900. And starting at 24", they ran 1920x1200.

I knew there was something I forgot to jot down when I was at his house the other day :slap: the model number! I guess I'll call him up and ask him when he's not working.

In the options to change resolutions in windows (right click on desktop>properties>settings) it only goes up to 1280 x 1024.

that is 5:4 aspect, wide screen would be 16:9 or 16:10. Also, how old is the monitor? Acer does not make 21" screens theses days. Perhaps its a 22"? If so, then it should max out at 1680x1050. Also, what is your friends gcard?

21 inch Monitors have as top Resolution 1680x1050 but not all of them......
22 inch Monitors get up to 1600x1200 but not all of them....
24 Inch Monitors reach up to 1920x1200 and again not all of them....

Bottom line for desktop he should use the top resolutions but in games he should check the best resolution/fps ratio.

Thats correct I beleive in all circumstances when using DVI, I think you have other options if just using DSub. For Dvi at that size it is 1680x1050......16:10.

I made a mistake, :slap: it's an Acer 19" monitor wide screen. I was just at his house a little bit ago. Well, anyhoo, it's an Acer AL1916W Wide screen monitor.

so the max res is 1440 x 900, so set it to that. Hopefully your friends gcard can do wide resolution.
