these are listed to be used for extra lights and fans. Could it also be used for the main power switch for the PC? If not does any one know where a good place is to find any, other than a direct replacement for the original? The one on the case now works fine, just would like to find something that's a little higher on the "coolness factor" scale for a mod project.

First you need to find out weather or not your mobo requires a "momentary-ON' switch or a regular on-off switch. Most likley it's a momentary switch. The ones in your link are not.
The diff is that the momentary switches just close the contacts(switch) for a moment telling the mobo to power-up, then open again.

What you are looking for is a momentary switch.

ok , this is gonna be creud, but let's see if I've got this right. A momentary switch is like having a wire in each hand. I want to power the pc up so I touch the two together then the mobo gets a signal to perform a task, and boots up, then I pull the two apart and it runs fine. now I want to shut it down and repeat the prosess and again am just sending a signal to the mobo that it's time to perform the task of shutting down. Is this right?

Yes, unless it's windows, then you use "shut down" proceedure.

Yes; when are testing a board out of the case, you can use a screwdriver to momentarily short the "on switch" pin headers on the mainboard. This turns on the board, and repeating the procedure turns it off again.

why not use the key switch from a riding lawn tractor, it has wires that are constant on as well as momentary on contacts so it works on everything. lighted switches are nice but everyone has one so try something more original and install a chrome key switch for your system.
