Well, I was just doing some changes in the SetPoint software for my Logitech G5, and I saw in the bottom "Report Rate (reports per second)". It was currently set at 250, so I raised it to 500. What effect does this have on my mouse?

It refers to the number of times the mouse position is reported back to the Mouse controller USB Hub. A normal 'ball' mouse only reports around 40 times/sec.

would a cordless mouse have lower report rate than a corded mouse? like say with the g5 and g7?
Trying to find any faults/losses in having a cordless mouse :P mine works nicely though :D

So, the higher the better? I just went to Logitech's site and read some info on my G5, and it said "Up to 500 Reports Per Second", so I placed it at 500. That ok?

I would say it depends on the mouse and should be listed in specs. The G7 list 500/sec, and is not adjustable. Hard to say how the report rate affects gaming though.

Yeah as Namslas90 said you shoudl try it out and see.. I dont think you will notice any diference though but you may if your moving your mouse real fast... dpi may effect the usefulness of this aswell.
test it out tell us if you find any diference.. I dont like running things at its highest always, for it usually causes more wear than running it lower... but this prob wont affect much wear on your mouse.:)

USB report rates for Mouse movement to cursor placement
125 Hz 8 ms
250 Hz 4 ms
500 Hz 2 ms
1000 Hz 1 ms
It's the "Polling" rate used to postion the cursor on the screen, the higher the rate the faster the response for re-positioning the cursor on the screen. I can guess that this will also be dependant with the refresh rate of the monitor also.(not sure)

Thanks guys! I would try it out right now but I'm watching the NBA Summer League online, so maybe later.
Thanks again, and I'll check the diff. later between 500 and 1000 RPS.
