Hey people,

its been a wile since i have posted so i thought i'd make this post a little long :P, okay, i have decided to purchase a 32" HDTV which is around 1000:1 contrast ratio, and 8ms response time, it has vga, and hdmi ports.

now my question, i have a friend who has this tv that i'm willing to buy, when i was round his house he tried using it a primary monitor, the only really clear resoulution he got was 1024*768, all the rest was too smugged and writing wasnt clear, his was connectiong it through his DVI card 7900GTX to his tv, using a dvi to hdmi cable, now my question is simple, will this resolution problem with all the writing being smugged up go if i use the vga to vga cable or dvi to vga cable, i want to have the biggest resolution possible which is around 1900 sumit for that tv,

here is the link of the Possible tv i am getting.

any suggestions or answers would be great thanks.

1,366 x 768 is its ideal res its the same with most 32" hd tv's any higher and you will get the smudging you describe. it might go to 1900x1080 but it will only run @ 30hz and isnt v good

Thats an 720p HDTV.
That is why you can only get that resolution.

If you want a higher resolution you are going to have to go with a 1080p (not i).
A 1080i will output the same resolution as a 720p and a 1080p is much more.

However, a 1080p HDTV over a 720p HDTV is considerably more.
If you are only using it for the computer get an LCD computer monitor.
They are much better and cheaper.

I have a samsung HDTV and when i was researching to find a HDTV with a good VGA port, samsumg always came up. mainly as there VGA port was designed for the 360 in mind.

I also have another brand of hdtv in our house and the samsumg has a far better picture than the other, but on both even after doing the auto adjust the text does look 'smugged' as you put it.

hdtv as not really designed to be monitors, note there poor wide screen res. if you want it to play games watch movies, then fine, but word wont be pretty.

cant grumble for less than £300 tho its a good tv imo but like i said 1366x720 is its max res (my hyundai 32" lcd still looks sweet at that res) :toast:

Yea not bad.
Also, you might want to note that the only 32" HDTV that is a 1080p HDTV is the Sharp Aquos. The reason for this is bc for this small of a HDTV you dont need 1080p unless you are using it for a monitor.
Otherwise, you wont notice a difference.

A note on the Samsung,.
Samsung has one of the best HDTVs thus far.
They are in the top 3 with Sharp and Sony.
However, with their new panel coming out, they might blow away the competition (the 81 series).

that screen is 1080, and supports 1080i as i have seen it running there as well, i think i can live with the low res cs source looked good on it and bf2 was good as well, but no1 still rele answered my question, which would be best for desktop and game purposes, a hdmi to dvi cable or jus standard vga all around.

thanks for all the replies though keep em cuming in,.

you cant run 1080i on vga afaik i use a dvi-hdmi and like i said before it will run 1900x1080 but only at 30hz its native res is 1366x720
