View Full Version : Why can't I softmod my x800 pro?

I have read around and found that the softmod to XT requirements are 1. A VIVO version x800 and 2. 1.6ns Samsung ram.

My ATI X800 pro appears to have 1.6ns ram (chips stamped GC16).
It has the Rage theatre chip installed. It also has the small connector housing under the power molex connector (I read something saying this connector was related to VIVO function and another source saying it was usless and would not be in production models).

I have not attempted to flash yet. I'm trying to gain a better confidence level that I won't blow $400 (US). Are there any tools I can use to further identify possible suitability of this card?

Thanks for the input.

your card is a vivo card then

I would agree but there is NO mention of the function anywhere in the docs. Nor do I have a cable for that 2nd molex connector, can you explain that function?

that second connector is no molex but an audio out connection for use when capturing sound with the x800 vivo. so you can link the card with an high end soundblaster one!

Xennox, your reply is confusing me.

Do you mean audio out from x800, audio in to soundblaster?

The ATI site only references VIVO w/respect to the old rage fury cards using composite video in / out. Is there a more complete reference available?

maybe try the user manual

can you post a picture of your card?

The yellow connector on the back is used to connect a cable that links to a video-in on the front of your case. If you don have a video-in port on a backplate or on the front of your case you can't put that to use. Maybe you can buy a backplate somewhere to put it to use...

maybe try the user manual

I know when all else fails - RTFM. Since this card was not sold as VIVO, there are no relating documents. All there is was the standard multilanguage install manual. The CD install did not add any apps beside the usual players (like some kind of capture app). Nor could I find any on the CD.

I did find ATI devices for audio & video in the device manager under sound & video. On the box the sticker with the barcode for the product was named X800 Pro V/VO/D - that is the only potential reference to vivo function.

I have a higher confidence that this is a vivo. There are no ram sinks so I know it won't handle XT speeds after a flash. I'm trying to find one of those arctic cooler 4's to resolve that issue but no one has them in stock. Anybody know where I can GET one in the states?

Slayerstaps - No picture available. I'm still trying to bring this system up after hours to get some time in on D3 & CS:Source :p .

Sorry, it was W1zzard asking for the photo. Thanks for the input from all.

Turns out theres no reason at all. My non-vivo ATI X800 Pro that happened to have all the vivo components (rage theatre, 1.6ns ram) did not have any cut on the GPU. I installed an arctic4 HSF, flashed an ATI XT bios and am running fine w/ 16 pipes.

Thanks go out to W1zzard and the other members who made it possible.
