yes it would be nice to know what that whatcallit file is called it might help...
Under "C:\Windows\System32\Futuremark\MSC\" you should find a file called Direcpll.dll... Rename/delete that one and your good.

Finally I got a decent CPU cooler and started putting my system to work.
I got my HD2600xt/ddr3 to 960/840 currently.
Gonna start testing stability and artefacts later on and post the benchmark results here.

Yup. Reading and clocking the HD2xxx-series seems to be quite a b*tch... Even Futuremarks clock-reading utility crashes when it comes to that. I hope some cool guy manages to fully understand this new ati way of clocking and releases a proper Overclocking tool. (W1zzard? ATITool 0.27 b3?) ^^
Seems like not even ATI understands it since even CCC has the bug..
Good think AMDGPUClockTool works for me.. Now if I could just make it set my frequencies automatically at boot..
PS: Urbklr911 and others, if You could just stop polluting the thread with crap that would be great.. TY :shadedshu

Yeah, I'm a little confused as well... :ohwell:
Oh and PT, I don't have anything else running besides AMD GPU Clock Tool and I have yet to get it working correctly again, I'm just stumped atm. I don't even have Catalyst Control Center installed for that matter.

Hi, I heard of the "external event monitor" (or something like that)-service (former hotkeypoller) being problematic with AMDGPUClocktool. Try disabling that if it's still there... Should be uninstalled with CCC but who knows what ATI uninstalls and installs for real... ^^
PS: Just had that bug again myself (the Tool not starting and using up more and more ram). What worked for me is waiting for 2-3 minutes and it opened up right away.

I got the final 100% stable 100% artefacts-free clocks for my 2600xt.
Unfortunately they got down to 911.25/837, as reported by AMDGPUClockTool.
So I used AMDGPUClockTool with cmd-line parameters and made a link to start at boot.
But.. after 10-15secs from windows boot-up, CCC kicks in and resets display.. and also gives me black screen.. GG AMD :respect:
I removed CCC from start-up and now I can enjoy the new setings automatically :toast:

Hi, mind sharing how to make that .bat file? Would love to have that for my laptop aswell, at least as long as it's connected to the AC-Line it would just rock.
I guess the drivers are still really early in development though, hopefully ATI manages to get some crazy ass driver out that makes cards go faster something like 25% (back in the days where I had the 9800xt something like that happened and it really worked!)

Ati flash tools cant read the rom.. If you got others suggestions they are welcome.
The ram chips say Qimonda 1.4ns, 1.8V. I found the Vram info here (http://www.qimonda.com/graphics-ram/gddr3/index.html). They also have the 2V version of this chip wich is supposed to do 1-0.8ns!? I wonder what mine could do with 2V

I've hit 1110Mhz on my VRAM adn I think it could go higher, but something's limiting the clock, just like with the GPU. 1110Mhz seems to be 100% stable, 100% artifact free, but when I try 1120 I get blank screen and freeze.
Maybe I was rushing a bit in the heat of the moment when I said Sapphire ownz; actually Qimonda ownz for selling 0.8-1ns chips marked as 1.4.. I'm kinda upset cuz the fan is broken somehow and makes alot of noise.. something like an old SCSI hi-rpm hardrive if You know the sound. I took it off, cleaned it with an "clean and lube" spray, tried to re-fit it but nothing.. it's just broken inside. BTW, I know now that the card has automatic fan control :)
I'll try to exchange the fan for a another one pff..

Max stable & artifact free clocks:
GPU(mem def): 930gpu/700mem
MEM(gpu def): 800gpu/1110mem
Seems to me like max mem freq is limited by the memory controler in the GPU, not the RAM chips.
So, the final stable freq are: 920GPU/1060MEM.

Hey Guys,
I've done some tests with my Laptop, a Toshiba A200-17O (powered by an Ati Mobility HD2600)
Here's the System:
Intel Core 2 Duo T7100 (1.8ghz and "only" 2MB L2-Cache)
Ati HD2600 @ 700mhz core/ 570mhz memory. (Default: 500mhz core/400mhz memory) mod Catalyst 7.9
2024mb DDR2-667mhz ram Dual-Channel
Windows Vista Home Premium (I guess this one kills some of the points too, especially on the older versions which have some seriously strange hick-ups in the CPU tests (partially 0 fps) or the "Mother Nature" test of 03.)
So, I guess everything relevant has been told. Here are my results, enjoy:
3DMark 03: 10472
3DMark 05: 7692
3DMark 06: 4133 (Just for the record, as this is the only one I tested without any OCing, it has 3180 non-OCed)
I'm pretty satisfied with these scores as the Laptop was actually rather cheap compared to other similiar set-ups (950€, in the US it would most likeley sell for 1000$ I presume) and performs quite well in real-life gaming environment (e.g. Colin McRae Dirt runs at ~25fps at "High" (except shadows and particles set to medium) @ 1024x768, 2xAA.
Next to OC would be the CPU, but since noone knows the PLLs yet, I'll have to wait (not opening up my new Laptop just yet :ohwell: )
That is all,
Good night to y'all.
Oh, before I forget it, this would be the Vista Performance Marks for the system (overclocked, GFX1 was 4.9 and GFX2 (Games) was 4.8 before OC) [sorry for the german]:

Nice. My Girlfriend has a Asus F3Ka also with HD2600 M. Running at 500-400 MHz. I was overclocking it but 3dmark 2001 SE did not get any boost when i ran 550-450. But when i see your clocks i can easily go higher :)
The AMD GPU tool made the HD2600M Crash serveral times. I just got a black screen but when i waited it got back again i guess VPU recover kicks in.
I will try to run 03 and 06 some day and then overclock the gpu again. Its really a pity that there are not a lot of laptops with the HD2600 XT M board.

i'm having problems overclocking my gigabyte hd 2600 xt gddr4, in the sense that ati gpu clock tool gives me a blank screen and i need to restart, ati tool 27b2 can't remember any clock settings, and finally ati ccc simply doesn't care if my frequencies pass the so called test of theirs, the curent clock settings are always the same 800/1100
i'm running vista 32 bit ult on a p35-ds4 board
any advice is welcomed, and since the folding client for the 2x00 series seems to be hanging, i want to see my vga card burn

Seems you and I are having simular results and issues, perhaps?
I was finaly able to get AMD GPU Clock Tool working again by downloading a fresh copy and setting it to windows 2000 compatibility mode upon initial startup. Anyhow, it exhibited the same bug that most others explained while the core was set anywhere between 857MHz to roughly 875MHz. After some playing around, I then experienced the same bug with the core clock set anywhere between 890MHz to 900MHz. Setting the core clock above 900MHz resulted in normal operation once again.
I think I was finaly able to hit roughly 930MHz on the core with AMD GPU Clock Tool and stopped there as I finaly had enough of all the rebooting that I was having to do because of various glitches from either the issue with the video card BIOS and/or AMD GPU Clock Tool. I was not able to OC the memory at all. Adding or subtracting even 1MHz to the memory clocks would result in an eventual loss of display signal and a necissary reboot. :wtf:
So, in my opinion, there still seems like quite a bit of work needs to be done in order for HD2600XT owners to fully appriciate and overclock their video cards! :ohwell:

By the way, what's the maximum clocks you people can get for the 2600 XT? I've been looking at a Sapphire 2600 XT Ultimate (GDDR4, doesn't cost much extra here) lately, does the GDDR4 version overclock much more than the GDDR3 one? Been thinking of getting a new GPU in about 3-5 months, and the 2600 XT seems to be a likely contestant, unless there comes the HD 2650 -series or something. Or, I could spend a bit more extra on a new PSU and a Radeon 2950 -series card, but we'll see...
The Sapphire one seems to be clocked at 800mhz core/1.4ghz memory, is that true? Could you get it up to near 900mhz/2.0ghz with the stock cooling of the brand? Has anyone got experience about this? :)

Sapphire DDR3 has 1.4Ghz mem, DDR4 2.2Ghz. However, ram quality is like a lottery, hence the RAM OC results can vary a lot. GPU should clock to 900-910Mhz.

Welp PT! I've pretty much given up hope getting you benchmarks of this GDDR4 model running on a CPU close to the same speed as yours to show you that a C2D makes a big difference in score results. The reason is that AMD GPU Clock Tool is about the only thing that will remotely let me overclock but only does so with random issues. We all know about the suppossed BIOS bug but the whole issue for me is that AMD GPU Clock Tool will not even let me touch memory speeds, doing so results in a loss of display signal, even undeclocking the memory does this!!! I'm also experiencing random lockups and loss of display signal on virtualy any core clock setting. It usualy makes it past 880MHz core but sometimes I'll loose the display signal for no apparent reason soon after. This holds true for just about any setting above 880MHz! I did manage to get it to 940MHz once but I lost the signal soon after and I haven't bother to try since. It's definitely not a PSU/power issue because I have a decent/quality PSU!
Thats just my 2 cents... :ohwell:
i win :p
could be the card going bad, have you tried it in other systems?

Riva Tuner works, but it has problems with the 7.10s. And they give a big

And I tried AMD GPU Clock as well but when I tried to lower it my screen went black. Not nice.

The 7.10s raised all of the 3D scores. Still playing with them and
AMD Clock. One time its stable, and the next time it isn't. Seems
something to do with ATIs drivers/power managment.
I think that Riva/Unwinder has figured out how to work with it. But I don't have

Riva Tuner works, but it has problems with the 7.10s. And they give a big
jump to the 2600s.
AMD clock is the best so far. A new Riva should be out on the 12th I think.
Seems to work with the 2600s from what I have read.
This is my 3D06 score - Sapphire HD 2600 PRO

Heh PT- we need to make some rules about how our 3dmark tests and scores are going to be run.... This one really blew my mind until I read it was done in 1024x768
I have read that it does with the XTs. I don't have two, so can't try it.
Maybe one day.
I'm sorry if I should have higher then 1024X768. I only have a 15" LCD.
I thought the benchmark ran as it wanted to. If I were to set it to
800X600 would I get a better score??

Yes actually you would get a better score.
No need to be sorry lol, just trying to make sure if we are going to be creating a list of people to compare and go off, there is going to need to be a standardized resolution.

Lots-
Crysis, Need for Speed Carbon, Rainbow 6: Vegas, I'm sure there are plenty, the idea with the 2600xt is it will play anything out there and play it pretty decently well if you are not running massive resolutions or need AA/AF, it tends to kill the card quick because of its 128bit ram.

hmm, i can get only about 850-860 Core Clock with latest rivatuner 2.06 beta.... Memory is stable at 1250 Mhz (GDDR4)....
If i clock the core over 860 Mhz, the card seems to start throttling... 3D mark running around 2-3 FPS, and even in 2D mode in windows, scrolling is realy slow....
i also try to clock it directly to 880, 900, 930.... 1000 Mhz, and nothing....

Probably getting ram errors when you clocked that high.. Try to knock it down around 1100ish and go for around 900 on the core... The RAM speed REALLY isn't needed with the pitiful 128bit ram anyways.

I think mine is locked against overclocking in the video BIOS or something...I've tried ATITool and AMD GPU Tool and neither will change clocks at all. I can try small increments, huge increments...nothing.

It was answered quite a bit ago actually (before you asked even). You should try jumping the clocks between 857 and 880; jump directly to 885 or something like that. That should work.
Even in CCC now I can't drag the sliders in ATI Overdrive. Having my card locked is really pissing me off.

For you guys having black screen issues, go back to the first post...
For some reason the 2600's don't like to be clocked between around 850-880, try for an instant 880-890-900, and don't try to clock your ram too much if you have a gddr4 they don't budge..

I think it's ridiculous that I have to overclock that much or not overclock at all.
I've done some googling and it seems that this problem might get fixed with driver version 7.11 whenever it comes out. I knew I was getting the cheapest 2600xt available, but DAMN I was hoping for something out of it.

I can almost say for sure this is not a driver issue..

Quite a bit especially on the HD2600 with its 4 Rops and somewhat limited bandwidth. I'd go for at least 1000 points, perhaps even 2000.
@pt: Yeah, the HD2600 mobility is really good, for a Laptop GPU. Don't expect it to perform quite as well as your Desktop GFX though, since most laptop-manufacturers couple it with DDR 2 memory which runs at 400mhz, meaning a bandwidth of 12,8 Gb/s; not really much. If you have luck and can overclock it to 570mhz like me, you'll be able to reach aroun 18,2 Gb/s, close to "un"-bottlenecking the GPU at 700mhz. I believe to really remove the bottleneck you would have to reach a bandwidth of like 20-23Gb/s or something like that... But worry not, I can run most modern games just fine at almost highest settings (though mostly not in native resolution) and they look great. It runs cool too and consumes not too much power.
