1. Download these official ATI Catalyst 7.10 (https://a248.e.akamai.net/f/674/9206/0/www2.ati.com/drivers/7-10_xp32_dd_53250.exe) drivers (don't get 7.11, 7.10 are better).
2. Run executable, but after it extracts the drivers, press cancel button.
4. Use this modification tool (http://www.driverheaven.net/modtool/) to make them work for Mobility installation. The whole procedure is also written on the previous link.
Installation step by step guide
1: Download MSXML 4.0 from Microsoft. Install.
Step 2 is VISTA ONLY
2: Make sure UAC control in Vista is turned off. If you don't know how to do this then read this guide (method 4 is the easiest) or click the "disable UAC" in Mobility Modder.net - please note you MUST reboot after disabling UAC. If you don't want it disabled permanently, you can turn it back on after our mobility tool has finished, but it won't mod the drivers correctly with UAC ON.
3: Download the newest desktop drivers from www.ati.com (or get them from Driver Heaven Downloads). If you are using Windows XP make sure to download .net framework from Microsoft (this is built into Windows Vista so there is no need to install it).
4: Run the downloaded driver, let it extract into c:/ATI/SUPPORT - but cancel the installation once the driver is extracted.
5: Run Mobility Modder - browse to the driver in C:ATI/SUPPORT/ - an example of Catalyst 7.4 would be C:\ATI\SUPPORT\7-4_vista32_dd_ccc_enu_44985 - hit modify. Wait until driver is modified.
6: In Vista, go to C:\ATI\SUPPORT\7-4_vista32_dd_ccc_enu_44985 (Or whatever the driver installation folder was called), and run the SETUP.EXE. Please note you might see a "Driver is not WHQL certified", ignore this, as it is a side effect of the modification.
7: Wait until Install is finished and reboot. Enjoy the new drivers !
thanks, i found that on the mod site too :D
all working great now

Guys, I'm trying to overclock (with AMD GPU tools) my Radeon HD2600 Mobility in my HP8510p notebook and instead in increase of speed of FPS I get a speed decrease.
My original clocks are core=300Mhz and memory=400Mhz. If I overclock to: core=380Mhz & memory=500Mhz, my 3D speeds slow down, lol.
Maybe the application changes timings on the memory and stuff.

The coreclock on 300mhz seems rather slow to me, are you sure you don't have Powerplay enabled?
BTW. I suggest using the Crysis-Hotfix drivers, they give me the best performance (especially with DX10).
Edit: Hey guys, check this out: http://www.cpuid.com/reviews/VVIKOO-8600GT-HD2600PRO/HD2600-debris-oc.jpg
Took this of the CPU-ID review for an HD2600Pro, might Clockgen be a valuable (more stable) tool for clocking our cards? Unfortunatly I can't find Clockgen on their Site anymore and I don't recall any ATI GPU PLL on the old versions...?

If you have 18-20A on the 12v rail, itll be enough. If you dont have a power hungry pentium D, should be able to get away with less.

Sorry 4 bad english....
If there's an updated bios that fixes certain bugs, sapphire will put it on
their website for download. You may expect a new bios in near future
released by sapphire.

Subject: Fw: Support Ticket Request Response
Hello!
Some days ago, i opened a support ticket on Sapphire's support page (link
below). I got this email address for my question.
I have a Sapphire HD2600XT PCI-e gDDR3 card. I know, if i overclock my card,
i loose warranty. Everybody know, but everybody overclocking to get more fps
in games, to get more visual elements. And if one brand is more
overclockable than other, the peoples buy it with pleasure...
There is a bios bug on ATi HD2xxx and 3xxx series, over 857,25MHz the GPU
PLLVCO can not able to set higher frequency, overflowed. This is observable
with Rivatuner 2.06, if is set 864MHz, i got 6,75MHz GPU frequency.
According to the news, ATi some days ago released a new 3xxx BIOS, without
this bug. Maybe 2xxx series bios is correctable?
And the other, new question. This card why not use DPM (lowered frequencies
in 2D)? The GPU is ready for this, but no bios entry, only 2 same frequency
profile available. Or in 2D, there are not so much active SP?
Best Regards: Sandor.
the mobile's ones seems bug free, maybe because their clocked lower :)
Hi,
Not sure if everyone knows but we can actually edit bios manually to change clocks.
Below is the info I saw on the other overclocking site on how to do this written by "Durinda DBry":
You'll need to edit your bios file with hexeditor.
For example lets take a look at Palit Sonic 2600XT DDR3 256M. Riva Tuner 2.03 shows the info:
PowerPlay state 0 : 800МHz/800МHz/1.20V/boot
Performance level 1 : 800МHz/800МHz/1.20V
Performance level 2 : 800МHz/800МHz/1.20V
PowerPlay state 1 : 110МHz/290МHz/1.05V/Overdrive
Performance level 1 : 300МHz/400МHz/1.20V
Performance level 2 : 800МHz/800МHz/1.20V
PowerPlay state 2 : 800МHz/800МHz/1.20V
Performance level 1 : 800МHz/800МHz/1.20V
Performance level 2 : 800МHz/800МHz/1.20V
Multiply frequency by 100 and voltage by 1000 (800*100=80000, 800*100=80000, 1.2*1000=1200), write it in hex form (80000=$013880, 80000=$013880, 1200=$0004B0), then take bytes from the end to beginning ($803801, $803801, $B00400), and search for this string (80 38 01 80 38 01 B0 04 00) in the bios file. There should be the table like below:
80 38 01 80 38 01 B0 04 00 <some bytes> - this is "PowerPlay state 0 - boot" (probably all three states a the same)
F8 2A 00 70 62 00 1A 04 00 <some bytes> - this is "PowerPlay state 1 - overdrive"
30 75 00 40 9C 00 B0 04 00 <some bytes> - this is "Performance level 1"
80 38 01 80 38 01 B0 04 00 <some bytes> - this is "Performance level 2"
80 38 01 80 38 01 B0 04 00 <some bytes> - this is "PowerPlay state 2"
80 38 01 80 38 01 B0 04 00 <some bytes> - this is "Performance level 1"
80 38 01 80 38 01 B0 04 00 <some bytes> - this is "Performance level 2"
E.g. you wish to change clocks in "PowerPlay state 1 - overdrive, Perfromance level 2" to 850/850. Then it should be:
80 38 01 80 38 01 B0 04 00 <some bytes> - "PowerPlay state 0 - загрузка"
F8 2A 00 70 62 00 1A 04 00 <some bytes> - "PowerPlay state 1 - overdrive"
30 75 00 40 9C 00 B0 04 00 <some bytes> - "Performance level 1"
08 4C 01 08 4C 01 B0 04 00 <some bytes> - "Performance level 2" <- we changed it in here!
80 38 01 80 38 01 B0 04 00 <some bytes> - "PowerPlay state 2"
80 38 01 80 38 01 B0 04 00 <some bytes> - "Performance level 1"
80 38 01 80 38 01 B0 04 00 <some bytes> - "Performance level 2"
And the last thing you must do is to open your modified bios file in RaBit to correct the checksum - just open it and "Save as".
Have fun!
Just found a command line switches inside the AMDGPUClockTool.exe:
-clklog Log status to a file called ATICLK.LOG

-dpm=on/off Enable/Disable DPM
-3dclock Apply settings to 3D clocks
-decsclk=<#> Decrease eng clock to current clk - delta # (MHz)

-incclk=<#> Increase mem/eng clock to BIOS default + delta # (MHz)
-restore Restore to BIOS default values
-mem=<#> Set mem clock to new value # (MHz)
-eng=<#> Set eng clock to new value # (MHz)
clock Displays options for clock operations
Run "AMDGPUClockTool.exe clock" for this help screen.

that looks like some good information you have there, but i think you have to reflash the bios and rewrite some of the bios, the only person i know who can do this is wizzard, and i dont think he spends much time looking at the 2600 series as its not going to be arround for long!!
but by the looks of things if you can edit clocks then you could maybe even edit voltages too
Of course, you should re-flash new bios to save it on the card. It is not actually a problem at all. You can use ATIwinflash (for Windows) or ATIflash (DOS) utils, I though everyone knows about them.
http://cp.people.overclockers.ru/cgi-bin/dl.pl?id=24817&filename=winflash125.zip
http://cp.people.overclockers.ru/cgi-bin/dl.pl?id=24818&filename=Atiflash341.zip
ASUS includes latest versions of ATIWinflash into their bios upgrades so you can get it from ASUS bios upgrade file - this is a simple zipped file, e.g.: http://dlsvr01.asus.com/pub/ASUS/vga/ATI/BIOS/C1CJC0_Win.zip (inside this zip selft-extracted another zip file).
Sure, voltages can be edited in bios, but it should be supported by the hardware. It should have a soft-programmed voltage controller, while, as far as know, none of 2600 has it. 2900 series has.

have you tried to flash your bios? i know my card clocks well in ram as i get 1162 on my ddr3,however my gpu cant get passed 857, i have tried everything i thinks its because of voltage but i also think its a bios bug!! so i would like to change it to say 900 and try a flash and see what happens!
Yes, I tried different bios files, doesn't make any difference to me.
Yes, this is a known bug about 857. This is like a black hole at that clock range. Try setting up right to 880-990.
It doesn't matter if you change your clocks via AMDGPUClockTool or updating BIOS. BIOS is just more convinient so you are not forced to change clocks everytime you start Windows, nothing more.
BTW, here is a voltmod & pensil trick for our Sapphire 2600XT: http://people.overclockers.ru/Fa11en/record21

This is the real problem with HD2xxx bios.

hey guys im having worries and my 2600xt i ran everything stock cpu and gpu did 05 got 7.3k then was like what the smeg so i checked cpu and gpu and southbridge temps all where fine put the 7.11 drivers in that gained me a extra 100points and in 03 got 11k what do you think the problem is O/s is vista 32bit premium where is the gap of performance and no quiet and cool or power saving settings are on either where do you think the performance gap is missing its performing no better than a mega clocked x800xtpe
03 gave 11k this is worrying did a re run 6041 :'(
mitsirfishi, same shit with my card.
The strange thing that I noticed is that it changes to 80pp while GPU is under load and back to 120pp when Idle. I used EVEREST 4.20 in background to monitor this, while opening/closing ATITool artefact scanner.
It is obvious that it should be vice versa - shutdown some pixel pipelines while Idle. I hope it is a bug in ATI drivers and it will be fixed.

Hey guys, my first post here.
I've been searching the net finding out all the information I can about the Mobility HD2600, and this seemed like one of the best pools of info.
I've recently aquired a free Toshiba Satellite P200-1B6 from my insurance company to replace my old Amilo Xi1546 which had broken down for the third time in a year. Or rather, it'll be arriving in the post.
Now, I had limited choices in what I ordered, but I decided to go with this one because many people have been saying the HD2600 acts like an underclocked HD2600XT, and can go much harder when overclocked and leave a few of the lesser ddr2 8600gts behind. Thing is, i've never touched gpu overclocks before.
Could someone perhaps run me through the basics in case i've got this wrong please?
-Download this ATIGPU tool thing..
-Set my clockspeeds to... ??? (To what exactly, how do I know what is safe?) Do I have to change memory speeds too?
-Do I have to do this every time I turn my laptop on?
-Will it make much difference while gaming?
-How does the 2600 chip handle the heat? I'm worried i'll break it.
I hope to write a full review of the system and include various benchmarks over the christmas period, it'll be my first review.
Thank you very much in advance [:
hi
i haqve a hd2600 mobile aswell
you can see it clocks and benchs on 1st page, i don't know heat, 'cause atitool doesnt detect a temp probe, but i don't think it gets too hot

Oh, atitool works for these cards now? I thought I read somewhere that they didn't.
I meant ddr2 8600gts as plural of gt, sorry
So is it best to edge the clocks up? If so, by how much each time? Do I have to keep memoy and clock speed at the same ratios? Or can I jut punch in one of your numbers and have it work?
& thanks for the welcome ^_^
atitool worked for me :)
you don't have to keep them at the same ratios, but if you punch the core up until it's no longer stable, then put it at stock and do the same for ram, it's highly porbably that it won't run both at their max (personnal experience) so it's better to keep a ratio

Hi,
I'm owner of a HD2600 Mobility too; the Laptop might indeed be very simliar to yours (Also Toshiba, but A200-17O; well check system specs on the left) and performs mightly well for such a power saving gpu. I got it to 685mhz gpu and 570mhz ram 100% stable (meaning no Artifacts whatsoever, even in most demanding games. If I go to 700mhz with Core it artifacts somewhat in Crysis, so the 15mhz increase is not worth it. Anything over 570mhz kills the ram apparently (not enough Voltage or too strict timings?).
Anyhow this differs from Chip to Chip and (apparently) even program to program. With AMDGPUClocktool I can reach 570mhz on ram no problem; with ATITool it starts artifacting at anything above 540mhz already (but the program is much more stable than AMDGPUClocktool. Best would be to just try around a bit; you can't damage much as even at the highest clocks my Card doesn't go above the 60°C (with ATITool) or 55°C (with AMDGPUClocktool), both after extensive gaming, and I think it is supposed to work flawlessly up to at least 70°C... :)
And what I can tell of my experiences now with Toshiba is only top notch; got this laptop 4 months now and no problems whatsoever; not even a dead or light pixel on the screen.

Yeah looks like our notebooks are pretty much the same.
Wow that's pretty impressive, thanks for the input.
My old x1800 would begin artifacting after just a couple of hours low-intensive games such as wow, with no overclocks. I did use to run it games for whole days though, and will likely do the same with this one - so i'm thinking 600 core 500 memory, maybe a little higher on the core.. maybe..
Notebook check lists the hd2600 as having default clocks of 500 core / 600 memory though? Something wrong with your chips memory?

Yeah, I know... I guess that is the official clock given by Ati, but manufacturers usually don't hold temselves to that (600mhz is most likely a GDDR3 clock). Given most manufactureres still use DDR 2 for Graphics ram 570mhz is actually quite a good value.

You can check your temps with the AMDGPUClocktool. Go to the second tab (Thermal Sensors) and click on "ASIC Temperature via internal TSS" check the box in the lower right bottom that says "Enable Reading" and click on Start.
There you go; it should now display the current value, min., max. and avarage of your GPU. :toast:

Hi people. Its nice to see some of you have managed to scare your mobility 2600 a bit.
Im having problems in the amdgpu program since I cant make a choise between 2d and 3d. Everything is grey :/
If I up the clock just a tiny bit, the system will more or less hang.
I can see the clockspeeds and I notice change when I turn pp on and off. Temperature monitoring also works.
Im sitting on a asus f8sa (ddr2, 512mb) with modded 7.10 drivers.
Is there any possible solution to this? Or is it some evil hardware thingy from asus making it impossible to change speeds?
Support for mobility 2600HD in ati-tool would be awsome! Do you think it will be implemented?

Hi,
yes, the AMDGPUClocktool is quite unstable; so I suggest you use the newest AtiTool 0.27 Beta 3 or 4. Works perfectly on Mobility cards, but for some reason you have to let Powerplay running (in Max. Performance Mode, or you'll experience a crash) and then clock to your desired clock. Oddly you can't go back to powersaving Powerplay through CCC anymore (works again after System reboot), that is why I prefer the AMDGPUClocktool. But in terms of stability and user friendlyness I'd go with AtiTool.
Here is the link to the newest Beta: http://forums.techpowerup.com/showthread.php?t=45596 :)

B-E-A-utiful!
Thanks. Cant understand why I had not tried that version.
Now it works to overclock although you have to be careful with how you handle the 3d-view or things might get a bit unstable. Gonna go play wih it now!
Again, thanks a lot!!
EDIT: The fun diddnt last that long because when I try to get above 550-560 on the core the screen turn black and the system reboots. Im going to see if I can up the mem a bit too, atleast.

Hey guys, im pretty new here on the board but I read allot of threads regarding overclocking the hd2900xt.
Myself I run on a Asus P5wdg2 Pro with an e6600 so there is room for cf but 2900xt costs allot these day's. Its btw a Club3d HD2900xt and I have some problems with it.
Most of the time when I play frozen throne (not even gpu intensive) my pc just goes off and on again. I tried to up the vcore with the bios mod and succeeded only thing is on air its getting kinda hot:P
anyone else havving that?

possibly download rivatuner or atitool and make that fan spin 100% all the time
AciDCooL
12-22-2007, 11:23 PM
Been there done that, but the funny thing is rivatuner detects 105C = 100% in auto mode.. so it wont harm the gpu when it reaches 105?? I rly doubt that but @ the moment its 77C load so should be fine havent done stress tests so far

Anyone busy with finding the temps offsets in the bios files yet?
Kinda late here guess im off to bed and ill search some bios files for known speeds in the morning. nn all
edit:
Here my org bios and my edited one (with corrected crc) 2d speeds: 250/250 vc: 1 3dspeeds: 800/1000 vc: 1.2
for: Club3d HD2900XT 1GB DDR4
http://tinyurl.com/37t2h3
Dont know if this wil work on saphire cards cause my bios is bigger somehow so u r warned.
I had allot of crashes recently before I made my modded bios, now im not using any tool to adjust the fanspeed and it get 95C max on those clocks. But its not 100% fanspeed.. more like 4600rpm out of 5500rpm +-80%..
But since im not using any speed adjust tool, I dont have any crashes anymore.. But still missing out on the 100% fanspeed guess that kicks in after 95C wich i dont get.. hope rabit updates soon

Hey guys, I recently installed my HD2600XT in my computer and i'm now having some issues. Before popping it in i applied some AS5 to aid cooling and once installed i fiddled around with RivaTuner and ATI Tool to try and tweak out some more performance from my card. Everything was fine for about a week and a half, but now my screen is shuddering/shaking. It started out as something i could barely notice, but now whenever i'm playing games or even right now typing this post i can notice a constant shudder of the text. I reverted all of the clock timings back to factory default and the issue still persists. Does it seem like i've shot my card by tweaking it, or by messing up on the AS5 application? I dont know how i messed up applying the grease, I've done it before on numerous occasions so i dont think that is the problem. If anybody can offer me some insight that would be great. Thank you.

the only way I can set core clock speeds beyond 860 is AMD Gpuclock tool but when I do this windows won't shutdown properly? Anyone got suggestions? I got 950/1050 stable on stockcooler with 5858 3D Marks 06. The temp are quite good aswell now, won't go higher then 80 C degrees (Stockcooler).
I also tried flashing the bios but when I flash the bios above 860 the clock speed will go down instead of up.
I have some information that might be usefull towards some of you guys. I did a 2600Pro contest a while ago, and kicked the cards ass at 1140MHz core, 830MHz memory and 2.15V vcore rofl.
There's a way to booster-mod your card. Please note that this is a picture taken from the Peak 2600Pro 256MB card, and other brands may differ. It'll allows you to fuel the card with more then the default 75watts that your PCI-express slot deliveres :
http://jvanderlinde.net/contest/images/boosterback.jpg
You should measure out these points before doing this. It'll increase the amount of Amps your Motherboard can maximum deliver. It's really handy when your going at 1000MHz or higher.
You can also remove the original capacitors, and use ones with a higher value for a better stabilized voltage at higher frequencies.
http://tweakers.net/ext/f/2d32dd95e12c7a305ed784136510d732/full.jpg
That was my card, with still the original caps on the card. If your going to use a huge cooler be sure to check first wether you solder 'm on the above side or the other side, cause a vf900 would fit anymore after replacing them. I had to solder them on the back on the card (reverse the caps if your going todo ;) )
The following picture nicely demonstrates on how far i went on my card:
http://tweakers.net/ext/f/4NLExQJy2L5OakG1cPnhMx8Z/full.jpg
Boostermod, Voltmod, A vapochill and ofcourse some fresh tweak-spirit :D
http://tweakers.net/ext/f/y0mAR7n0gxDXO9BHlElZnXYi/full.jpg
Yep.. the pretesting. Only problem was after this testing the card went dead.
http://tweakers.net/ext/f/I79Jwf686LisgWUgikWOEIUI/full.jpg
Nice MS-Dos cursor lol.
Keep in mind that ocíng beyond a GHz with the core is going to cause serious short-life-time issues with this card. I happend to reach up to 2.15V Vcore and a 1140MHz stable core. 1200MHz would really happend if that Vapochill, or whatever did'nt kill the card somehow. It would be 100% overclock.

Hey all.
I did a little VMod back in december to 1.35/2V from 1.23/1.78.

My card Started out at 700 Core 700/1400 Mem, and I was able to get it stable at 800 core 800 Mem using Riva Tuner. HIS actually tries to put a lock on the frequencies and it denies Catalyst from doing any OCing.

it works if u clock it straight to 884 or 904...
Well, when i do that on atitool, it goes to 30 mhz :(, instead of 904. it goes down
im running on 857/1269 with a 2600xt ddr4

1) You need to have powerplay enabled for Atitool 0.27 b3 to work. Make sure it is set to "maximum performance" or you'll get a complete system hang. Also, after clocking with ATITool powerplay won't do anything anymore, so switching it back to maximum battery is not gonna downclock your GPU until you don't restart the pc.
2) I don't know why, but this happens on my Card too (HD2600 Mobility), I suppose it's some kind of safety lock by the manufacturers?
3)Indeed, though I don't know how they look on mine with this analyzing tool (is it Sandra?)
4) UVD= Unified Video Decoder (I think), basically it stands for the Enginge that handles Hardware-based decoding of H264 and VC-1 stuff; I believe it also partially accelerates MPEG 2.
Now a question from my side: Which AMDGPUClocktool do you use? It kind of looks diffrent to mine, I have nothing that indicates my Bus Speed or UVD-Status. Mind sharing that file? :toast:
Edit: Just seen there is the new Version up on TPU. Seems to be a lot more stable and it also shows me what it shows on your image. I just wonder why is PCI-E always on 16x? I thought that those energy-saving thingies should turn that down to 1x or something like that if not needed (can't think of aereo needing the full 16x?)

Omg for your answers! I use 0.98 version, here you go: http://www.majorgeeks.com/AMD_GPU_Clock_Tool_d5989.html
ok, I've disabled ati automatic clock switching in ati tool, but anyway slider comes back to its default. BTW, I use everest. BTW2 linux has a command that lists all powerplay states, so when I enter it it says that powerplay isn't supported on my hardware, that seems weird.

Check out this, I highly doubt anyone can beat this score.. I have a Ati mobility hd2600 using whql/fm approved drivers. I got 9557 or something using windows vista, my score is like 2500 points higher than the next ones..
I'm sure if i used vista and followed this http://forums.overclockers.com.au/showthread.php?s=&threadid=21678
I;d break the 10 000 mark easily. But for now im very happy with this result because it beats out alot of great cards at stock speeds. and the laptop cost less than 850..809 cad..runs crysis all high with ssao turned off ...and object detail too low..but with a tweak i can play it very high in native rez 1280x800 and have it looking veryhigh(cheap veryhigh :P)..
heres my score http://service.futuremark.com/resultComparison.action?compareResultId=4455459&compareResultType=12

quote 'it can't be so, you can't get 6fps from cpu test' .
What do you mean, what are you talking about? Also my score is always about 6fps on the cpu test, even stock...also its 3dmark05 not 06..on 06 i get about 0.75fps ..My is the bottleneck when i overclock my hd2600 that high. Im going to overclock cpu and ram and post results over 10 000 for sure..but as for getting cool temperatures i highly doubt it will be under 80c like the first tests...
Also how does my score of 9557 and 9400 compare to other graphics cards...i got a budget notebook for less than 850 cad. and 9557 seems pretty low. I wonder what the 8800mgts gets stock for 3dmark05..
BTW i only care about 3dmark05 because it is default. 06 doesnt use defualt and i cant post the setting on 3dmark..resolution is diff.
ps nohomo...your cpu score in 06 3dmark is higher than mine lol....u musta been kidding about my score..can u help me get better results?

I have an ATI Mobility HD2600 256 DDR2 on my (first, previously I onlu had desktops) laptop (TOSHIBA SATELLITE A200-1QK, bought almost a year ago). What kind of OC do you think I can get in a safe manner? There's people here getting to 700MHz it scares me a bit to go from 500MHz to 700MHz (I've never seen such a big increase on a desktop card).
So what are the values that I can reach safely?
