so far on the overclock i got:
857mhz on core (800mhz stock) maxxed i think
1007mhz on ram (700mhz stock, comes pre-oc from factory as 800mhx) still not maxxed :twitch:
http://img.techpowerup.org/070717/hd2600xt overclock.jpg
with no voltage options, nor vmods, i think they put gddr4 on mine for mistake :p

Very nice overclock ther PT!....whats the "toy" :) giving you in 2006? I think we should rejuvinate the 2005 club which is more GPU biased....well less CPU biased and see what these DX10 cards can do in that as all the benchies seem to be in 2006.
the "toy" with no optimizations or tweaks gave me almost 5k and 10k on 05 :)
haven't run it since i'm overclocking so high
i agree with rejuvination of the 05 club :)

My results=WTF........I can only get 1145Mem on AMD Clock Tool and still stuck at 857....we need to modify the bios i believe...if i go anywhere over those numbers then it goes to a black screen. I can get 1.18GHz Mem on CCC and that is the max of the slider so there has to be room for more...but how???
can you say what's written on the ram chips?

Dump the existing bios, you can do that thru ATi tool, mod it using an editor (available in the downloads section), use ATi Flash to reflash the new BIOS.....making sure of course that you have taken a backup copy of your old BIOS and put it on a bootable floppy in case it does not work....thats the basic details and not a guide of course, may of us can help with that if you decide to do it, I have done it a couple of times in the past and not had a problem.

I tried with Rabit 2.2.1 but I still not work. Anybody can mod and flash the new bios of HD2600XT?

These cards do run cool with the 7.7 drivers but when you use the 7.8's under vista the temps get up there in Lost Planet. My guess is that the GPU is actually getting used.
Mine hit 91c while playing and started to artifact a little.
The 7.8 driver for XP does not seem to work too well.
VendorID: 0x1002
DeviceID: 0x9588
SubSysID: 0x25421002
Revision: 0x0000
Driver: ati2dvag.dll
Description: ATI Radeon HD 2600 XT
Memory bandwidth (0 + 32/32): 819 MB/sec
Memory bandwidth (16 + 32/32): 1023 MB/sec
Memory bandwidth (32 + 32/32): 1231 MB/sec
GPU fill rate, single-texture (16/0): 103 Mtexels/sec
GPU fill rate, multi-texture (16/0): 205 Mtexels/sec
That gives me the max playable reso of 800x600.
When I ran that under 7.7's it was
Memory bandwidth (0 + 32/32): 22775 MB/sec
Memory bandwidth (16 + 32/32): 27240 MB/sec
Memory bandwidth (32 + 32/32): 28968 MB/sec
GPU fill rate, single-texture (16/0): 2913 Mtexels/sec
GPU fill rate, multi-texture (16/0): 5832 Mtexels/sec
And 7.8's under vista 32 is...
Memory bandwidth (0 + 32/32): 19821 MB/sec
Memory bandwidth (16 + 32/32): 24779 MB/sec
Memory bandwidth (32 + 32/32): 26746 MB/sec
GPU fill rate, single-texture (16/0): 2565 Mtexels/sec
GPU fill rate, multi-texture (16/0): 5154 Mtexels/sec
Welp, hope the drivers get better soon. Along with overclocking.
also, cooling is essential.

Hey guys new to the forums and a fellow 2600xt DDR3 owner, mines being a sapphire.
My highest overclock so far on it is just 830Mhz core and 850mem which from looking at you guys clocks I can clearly achieve much higher on the mem and the 857core clock which I will do tonight now doubt.

3DMark Score 5128 3DMarks

Using the new 7.8beta's (8.40's) and I see a lot of you are using ATi Tool AND AMD GPU overclocker to get your clocks. How are you doing this? Anytime I try to make a clock stick on these programs the program will either crash...AMD GPU or not stick with the settings and revert to stock....ATi Tool.
Is this because I am using the beta drivers and not the current official 7.7 release?
Usually on OCuK but you guys seem to be the only thread on the net looking to clock these babies :D Any help would be great
hi
the 857mhz is easy to achieve, are you using vista or xp?
and check what is written on the ram chips
atitool doesn't work atm
and nice score, for such a lower clocked card :)

Yeah thought that myself, a decent score with around 150+increase due to the drivers.
Using xp for gaming vista for all my other crap I do. So mainly XP :P
I'll investigate the ram tonyte in a few hours after I finish work. Will I need to use an official set of drivers to get AMD GPU tool working correctly or could it have been because I tried clocking the card automatically which in turn would have let the card go over 857mhz core?
I think it may just be the core issue that put me off the AMD GPU tool but I shall investigate the ram later.
Fingers crossed for a good set :D Plus very pleased I went for the DDR3 over the DDR4, not worth the extra imo

Its actually not Samsung branded its only that of Qimonda which does a max of 1Ghz! When running AMD GPU Tool the artifacts began around 890Mhz so I've pretty much hit the limit on my card im thinking. Pretty disappointed but im getting good performance from my clock as you can see ;)

Only temp I have is the core temp which is sitting @ 40idle now since I applied Arctic Silver 5 and around 58 load. Might just be a bad batch but again is there any tool to increase the voltage of these cards? And what would be a safe level?

Just waiting on the AS5 to cure a bit and for my new Zalman ramsinks to come in before I start OC'ing my MSI HD2600XT GDDR4 Diamond OC Edition video card so right now it's just stock @ 850/1150 (2300 effective). I'm definitely hoping to break the 6k mark in 3DMark06 when all is said and done.

I'm really hoping so! It's been nearly done with the GDDR4 version! Check it out over @ hwbot.org "ATI HD2600XT GDDR4" (http://www.hwbot.org/quickSearch.do?hardwareId=GPU_1144) and more specificaly @ http://www.hwbot.org/result.do?resultId=634886 . Now that seems to be the question! I'm also hoping so since the guy who is in second place in the 3DMark06 HD2600XT GDDR4 scores has his up to 860 core and 1260 or something memory speeds and thats on the standard GDDR4 model. I also plan on using the new 1050 release of ATI Tray Tools to OC the card instead of Overdrive. As I said before, I won't know until probably wednesday what kind of performance I can push out of my card, thats when I receive my zalman ramsinks and a few other cooling components I plan on using.

Welp, just got done with my first 06 run and with mixed results.
I did the first test on stock clocks and obviously default 3DMark06 settings and I believe I got a score of 5255 but I can not be for certain. The display died right after the result screen came up and I'm pretty sure it was due to driver error. Anytime I try to do a new 3DMark run, i get the same thing happening, sometimes in the beginning, sometimes durring and sometimes at the end so it's fairly random when it happens.
I'm running the latest Cat 7.8s and did a Driver Cleaner Pro job prior to installing the video card and new catalyst drivers.
Don't even get me started with trying to overclock this thing. I've tried ATI Tool 0.27.2, RivaTuner, ATI Tray Tools and AMD GPU Clock Tool and none of them are able to successfully OC this video card! AMD GPU Clock Tool was able to oc the core roughly 10MHz before causing the screen to power off and the other three were either unable to properly read the default clocks and/or altogether unable to overclock at any amount.
So, until I can figure out what the heck is going on, I think this will have to be put on hold.

Soverign some adivce for you:
the reason that the clocks on these cards are limited is because the PCI-E slot doesn't provide enough power for really good clocks. Try overvoling your PCI-E slot but not too much.

Thanks for the advise, Hat! Unfortunately, I don't think my TForce or nF-M2 boards are capable of such a task! :ohwell: I'll have another look but I don't remember seeing an option for this. My Tforce board allows for extra voltage to the chipset and HT bus if my memory serves me correctly and I know I can increase bus speed of the PCI-E slot though...
EDIT : Was finaly able to complete my first 06 run! I too had a few of the problems with 3DMark06 that Urbklr911 mentioned earlier and I had to to use the new Catalyst 7.8 Bioshock Hotfix drivers just to be able to get any results at all without a system or driver crash and hence the reason for the "approved driver" warning in the result pic below. Testing was at stock GPU clocks (850 core & 1150 memory) because I couldn't get any other program to overclock the video card without crashing or locking up the PC and system @ 2.860MHz CPU & 477MHz (954 effective) CAS4.0 4-4-12 2T memory clocks. I'm a little dissapointed with the score but then again, I'm a bit CPU bottlenecked and the video card is running at completely stock... The results :
http://img252.imageshack.us/img252/5742/capture013ba5.jpg (http://img.techpowerup.org)http://img.techpowerup.org/070831/Capture016.jpg (http://img.techpowerup.org)
http://img.techpowerup.org/070831/Capture015117.jpg (http://img.techpowerup.org)
A possible 3rd place finish atm which isn't too shaby when you consider that the current top 3 (in this thread) are using C2D's @ higher clock speeds! ;) So, I have to revise my goal of reaching 6k at this point in time due to seeing how the CPU has a large affect in 3DMark06 scores. I don't think I can or will be able to reach the 6k mark until I move up to either a 6400+ or a new Phenom later this year.

if the card is working well.. why should u flash to other ppl card bios?
want better overclocking...
use rivatuner to clock the card and remember how good it can go...
wait new rabit utilities out... mod the own bios and flash it..
that is the good step to do...
flashing other card bios brings... trouble... unless it is confirm they works...
some can boot with unknown display card in windows... some totally won't boot ... some directly corrupt the display card ...
else u need to standby a pci display card to boot if fail to get the new bios to boot on your display card....
and flash back to your original bios.... with atiflash command -p 0 which means at the display pci-e slot...
so do nothing unless u know what u are going to... standby to rma it aswell

I tried that as well. It would only produce about 5MHz overclock on the core, any higher would cause the video card/drivers to malfunction and cause a loss of signal to the display. The memory wouldn't even oc 1MHz, trying to push the clock speeds higher on the memory using AMD's GPU clock tool would result in nothing and the clock speed resetting back to default.

my Expertvision 2600 PRO can clock to 830Mhz core and memory 830Mhz so it is 1660 Mhz in DDR3 rate....
i'm using rivatuner to gain stable overclock... u can't see the core and memory speed while in windows... and in rivatuner low level oc... when u test with 3dmark and see the fps .. u will know it is oc in background...

Official 7.9s are out, ladies! Time for a new run of synthetic benchmark tests! ;)
BTW, the 7.9 CCC still does not allow OC'ing past 857 core & 1179 memory clocks! :( That basicaly means that for folks like me, overclocking at all is rather pointless (unless you believe a 7MHz OC on the core is something to brag about)...

Hey Guys,
I've done some tests with my Laptop, a Toshiba A200-17O (powered by an Ati Mobility HD2600)
Here's the System:
Intel Core 2 Duo T7100 (1.8ghz and "only" 2MB L2-Cache)
Ati HD2600 @ 700mhz core/ 570mhz memory. (Default: 500mhz core/400mhz memory) mod Catalyst 7.9
2024mb DDR2-667mhz ram Dual-Channel
Windows Vista Home Premium (I guess this one kills some of the points too, especially on the older versions which have some seriously strange hick-ups in the CPU tests (partially 0 fps) or the "Mother Nature" test of 03.)
So, I guess everything relevant has been told. Here are my results, enjoy:
3DMark 03: 10472
3DMark 05: 7692
3DMark 06: 4133 (Just for the record, as this is the only one I tested without any OCing, it has 3180 non-OCed)
I'm pretty satisfied with these scores as the Laptop was actually rather cheap compared to other similiar set-ups (950€, in the US it would most likeley sell for 1000$ I presume) and performs quite well in real-life gaming environment (e.g. Colin McRae Dirt runs at ~25fps at "High" (except shadows and particles set to medium) @ 1024x768, 2xAA.
Next to OC would be the CPU, but since noone knows the PLLs yet, I'll have to wait (not opening up my new Laptop just yet :ohwell: )
That is all,
Good night to y'all.
Oh, before I forget it, this would be the Vista Performance Marks for the system (overclocked, GFX1 was 4.9 and GFX2 (Games) was 4.8 before OC) [sorry for the german]:

LoL! I found this rather funny and thought I'd share it with the rest of you folks...
With the latest review from TechSpot on 09/12/07 regarding the 8600GTS vs the GDDR3 HD2600XT, his conclusion was as follows :
Therefore, in our comparison (http://www.techspot.com/review/66-radeon-hd-2600xt-vs-geforce-8600gts/page7.html) between the Radeon HD 2600XT and the GeForce 8600 GTS, we have found the Radeon X1950 Pro to be the winner, go figure
The test was soley between an ASUS Geforce 8600GTS and a VisionTek HD2600XT GDDR3 512MB video cards. If you read the full conclusion, you'll notice that he brings the Radeon X1950PRO as well as the Geforce 7900GS from previous testing into the picture to come up with the quote above and thus the final conclusion! :ohwell: :D

I don't think so either... But you can't really exclude anything. From what I hear whenever you go over 857mhz with the AMDGPUClocktool you get a black screen, this could be an indication that the GPU just simply ain't supplied with enough current to run at such high Frequencies... Other than that it could also be the tool itself... I had some crashes with it aswell, no matter what Clocks I inputted (even reverting them to default once caused the black screen). Try to overclock the card right after you restart windows, this tends to give me the best results with the overclocking tool.
By the chance, I've got a question... Basically what limits Overclocking is the Voltage and the Temperature? I'm asking because the AMDGPUTool shows me a temperature of 53.000°C after playing for 2 hours straight, which seems rather "low" to me (with alot of room open for further overclocking)... If by any chance a new ATITool with full support of 2xxx-series and Voltage control comes out, would you think it is safe to go further up with the clocks (I'd leave the GPU at 700mhz, I'm fine with that, but I'd like to get the memory to 700mhz aswell but it's capped at 570mhz because I think it's low on voltage).
Just to remember you guys, I'm on hd2600 mobility, so don't wonder about the low clocks ^^ (Default: 500mhz core/400mhz memory)

Hmm, ok. Well I think that depends on the Monitor you are using. When I tried overclocking on my external monitor (and it crashed) the was simply a black screen and the system was not responding any longer. On the Laptop LCD, when it crashes, I get a frozen picture which lightens up first (for quite some time, get's brighter and brighter) and then fades away.
it's locked duo to a bios bug according to w1z, and that hd2600 mobility was severe cutted in clocks :(
That is very unfortunate then... Perhaps trying the Bios of one of the guys who made it go over those blasted 857mhz, I'll keep my fingers crossed for you so that they answer to your e-mails. And yeah, the mobility is really cutted down in clocks... So badly that initially I had Half-life 2 lagging with 2xaa enabled because of the catastrophic bandwith... Anyhow I managed to go up with the clocks over the HD2600Pro (which is clocked at 600mhz, IRC) and on the same level as the mobility hd2600xt (700mhz). I'm almost sure I could go up another 50mhz at least as I have no signs of artifacting or similiar things, I suppose it's exactly the same chip as the one in the desktops, seeing the powerplay feautures consist in only having the clock halved (compared to bringing it down to incredibly low 100mhz like it was the case for the x700 mobility) and not touching the ram...
But right now, the thing bottlenecking the Performance is the VRAM (and perhaps a bit the CPU) rather than the GPU itself. It still hasn't got a very high bandwith with only 570mhz (afaik default for the mobility should be 600mhz and for the xt version 750mhz)
so if I could get it some more voltage I think it should be possible to reach 700mhz with those. (Considering all they do is completley crash if I go over 580mhz and launch a 3d-Application, not creating any kind of artifacts whatsoever)...
Oh well, sorry for all that text I'm always writing, I'll try to keep it short in the future... It's just that I'm totally into Overclocking again, remembers me of the good old times with my Geforce 256. (first time I started overclocking like crazy ^^)
no prob, i'm praying aswell :D
and no prob on long text aswell, keep the oc going :)

Here is what AMD GPU Clock Tool can do for my card. I have Sapphire HD2600xt DDR3 256M.
I was using ATI Overdrive for OC up until now, wich freezes on anything above 860 GPU..
I'm pretty satisfied with the card, but seems to me like AMD is doing everything in their power to fail on the market.. First the cards seemed more like engineering samples with beta bios that were rushed onto the market, and second the drivers are still beta-like ( not that NV is doing a much better job here.. :(). AMD surely knows by now that by conquering the entusiast users is the way to go if You want a product to be successful..
So maybe at some point in the future We'll have Vcore control in ATITool and decent drivers. I would love to see some Vmods of this card hitting 1GHz++.

Yup. Reading and clocking the HD2xxx-series seems to be quite a b*tch... Even Futuremarks clock-reading utility crashes when it comes to that. I hope some cool guy manages to fully understand this new ati way of clocking and releases a proper Overclocking tool. (W1zzard? ATITool 0.27 b3?) ^^
