GMC will release in Korean market its newest pc case the TOAST(GMC R-2) which features a vertically-equipped ODD and room for ATX/Micro ATX M/B. Suggested price is 26,000 KRW (29$) .
I really can't see what's so usefull about it but if someone wants to have something weird that you don't get to see everyday this case will do the trick.

the point is space, by using a vertically mounted ODD, they can make the case incredibly short! Perfect to be placed next to a LCD TV, as those, even when mounted on a TV table, are not very deep. The case actually comes in at least 7 different colors and has been a big surprise at CeBIT a few months back!

Short ?? its clearly more than 2 times the tray of an optical drive....Most midi towers are like that in height....As for Cebit i didnt know that especially since as you can see GMC had a press release yesterday to mark its release....Dont remember seeing an article about that months ago but i could be wrong.

I think DS meant short in depth, not height :)

I *think* Moneual Labs has the exclusive in the US: http://www.moneual.com/inovy/
as for the shortness (short in height = small, short in width = slim, thus just short = short in depth ^^): an optical drive is around 16 cm long in average. By mounting the drive so it faces UPWARD, you only have a depth of 4,5 cm or so. that 12 cm shorter than needed, now take into account that the HDD needs to be mounted somehow as well, it is placed right between front and PSU.

From what i can see in the tower the HDD is next to the PSU and the optical drive is actually on the outside face of the tower and not in the tower....I doubt the tower is 12cm smaller in depth than others....Besides who cant spare 10cm for a tower ? You want an HTPC , go get something better in design :)

well yes 12 cm may be way to optimistic. Just a guess on my part :D
But consider the price - 29 USD...great for a budget HTPC and it should even turn some heads with the cool drive setup...

wow that is pretty funny (in a Fu@ked up way) you really cant sue unless you copyrighted that design, if anything if you tried to sell a case like that and they copyrighted that design you could get sued
