AMD has reported its financial results for the second quarter of this year. As expected, the numbers aren't pretty. The world's number two processor manufacturer managed to rake in revenue of $1.378 billion in Q2—up almost 12% compared to the first quarter—but it posted a net loss of $600 million. If you've been keeping track, AMD lost $574 million in the fourth quarter of last year and $611 million in the first quarter of this year, so the company has lost a cumulated $1.785 billion over the past three quarters.

I just like the cutoff title "AMD loses $600 Million."
First thought : "How does someone lose $600 Million!?!?"
Second thought : "Poor AMD ;("

i think this is good, Amd needs to get back to being the consumers friend rather than trying to create prestige over priced single components.

they have been cutting their processor prices by large margins. lower margins and a slower product. no surprises here. AMD isnt dead though ...more like badly injuried :)

Let's cross our fingers and hope for the best. If they go bankrupt I'll keep an A64 to remember them by :P

Its like both of their legs are broke and when one leg is about to heal, it rebreaks.
Im not terribly worried, but I mean, how much money do they have saved up is my question.

What are you talking about the 2900 xt series is a good card but not the fantastic item it was hyped to be, and ATI might be the nail in AMDs coffin, when AMD needed them most ATI put out the worst dog video card since the radeon 7500 series. We all know the 2900 series flopped big time it's first few months. ATI might have killed AMD with that mistake but we will see if ATI can get the 2900xt to it's full potential it might save AMD or if it flops it will kill it. Without ATI at this point AMD would have been profitable. The purchase of ATI and the set backs of the 2900xt is what might TKO AMD, so far the worst thing AMD ever did was buy ATI and I love both companies. If only one or the other, ATI for sure could have turned out a monster product but it didn't happen. The only saving grace is the 2900xt with new drivers turned out to be alot better than it first appeared but still hasn't beat the much older 8800 series. Also AMD/ATI didn't lose as much as was predicted and just might survive. It's all is ridding on the new AM2+ chips if they don't come out soon and sporting more power than the C2D then AMD is doomed. Come on AMD get this right or nvida / intel will over charge the hell out of us.

AMD killed itself... not ATi's problem.

Fire the dumb ass product managers. AMD will be good. May be old fat ass bastards sitting there on top positions. Most companies sink because of great minds!!
Poke their asses with red hot iron rod, then their brains will start working.

Just because it says they lost $600 million doesn't necessarily mean they lost $600 million of their own money, they lost money they never really had. That's the beauty of business and avoiding taxes, at the beginning of each year they project on how much they could possibly make and try to attain these goals. If they make it, great they invest back into the company to avoid taxes that way, if they don't they put it down as a loss and don't pay tax on that either. It's a win (win) situation to some degree. To find out how much they really lost you would have to be way at the top, because they use multiple accountants so that even they don't know the truth. In the end though, it's not good to lose money in any circumstance.

Eh? Didnt get that... but AMD Please dont die!
Don't worry, AMD has captured 75% (SEVENTY FIVE) of the desktop OEM market for the 3rd quarter. Trust me. The HD series may not be fast, but they are cheap, and cheap sells big time in the OEM market.
Oh, by the way, you didn't hear that from me...

guys...ati is not making as big of an impact as you think on amd. high end hardware sales account for less then 10% of total revenue for gfx companies. its the low end market that counts for the majority of revenue.
amd really needs to get some of their own chipsets and boards out for am2. crossfire is currently limited to a select few boards.
