well, if anyone hasn't noticed, i've recently been very persistant on collecting informationg on temperatures and coolers. well, I ordered everything, then I was sitting reading when I realised I didn't get thermal paste. well, that just won't do, so I would like to know if anyone can reccomend some good paste? I'm looking at arctic silver 5 now, maybe that zalman stuff with the brush, but it's out of stock near me atm.

arctic silver 5 is the best, AS ceramique if your messy (its safer to use, and 98% as good temps)

I'll beat everyone to it, AS5 FTW!
only use AS5
unless it's just a whatever PC that won't be under load pretty much at all

Coollaboratory Liquid PRO Thermal Interface Material << The "best" but can be risky to use since it eats aluminum.. AND FAST!. Its a liquid metal too so its a bit harder to use.

as5 is the best way to go, though ceramique is great if you're really clumsy and all.. you cant get as5 on anything about the components you need it on, its composed of 99% micronized silver which will conduct electricity. ceramique is safer but not as effective.

AS5 is CAPACITIVE not conductive.

What that means is that it wont pass electricity, but it can build up something similar to a static charge - this is still bad, but not AS bad as conductive.

AS5 is fairly safe even with a little spillage, but ASC is best for ram chips and the like, since it can cover the metal pins without a problem.

as5 dropped my max load temps by a few degrees over the no-name thermal paste.

And I also was instructued to use much less of it than the other stuff too.
3/4 of a BB gun pellet according to the as5 website instructions.

Also it says something about the as5 working at it's best after 200hrs of running which is a looong time of gaming!

Unless your'e a folder. . . .yay.
But still folders are serving a purpose so I don't want to knock them too much.

It's quite crazy how little you need but really your'e only supposed to be covering the die with it so the 3.5g tube in more than enough.

>.> well, I don't think I can screw up putting less than a drop onto a nice big, un-obstructed square without getting it all over everything in my case.<.< but, I'm pretty sure that most heatsinks have aluminum components, and thermal paste usually smells= fumes= melting aluminum, so I think I'll use the as5>.>

Ceramique for sure if you're liquid cooling.
The temps between it and AS5 are very slim. It's not really about being 'messy' persay, rather that it's much easier to work with, as you don't have to be EXTREMELY careful just to apply some paste.

Before it was AC S5, but now I would definitely go for AC MX-2 since it seems easier to use and performs a bit better than AC S5. #9 AC S5 is slightly conductive just not that much. So if you drop some on your motherboard be sure to clean it up thoroughly.

Arctic Silver 5 is the best you can get. Or you could wait and give the new Arctic Cooling MX-2 a try ;)

EDIT: sorry, I should have read all of the posts, 'Frederik S' said this also :)

yes, tests show that ac mx2 is actually wayyyy better than as5.

Im actually using Zalmans thermal paste(ZM-STG1) So far its working fairly well and I really like that it comes in a bottle with a brush to apply it. It made putting it on very easy.

i went from as5 to mx-1 and it dropped my temps by 2c, mx-2 will drop it another 2c from the reviews i have read.

from what i have read that asaka 450 stuff is ok but it starts to degrade after about 1000 hours so it doesnt cool as well. they have released 2 new versions since that which are ment to be on par with as5.

as long as you know how to use it your will be very happy and wont go back.. I think wtih a thermalright extreme or something it will be as good as water cooling maybe since that cooler is already close with your common paste.

As long as you dont spill any on the heatsinks aluminum retention bracket your :rockout:
It is the best out their thiers a who topic about the best thermal conductive for cpu's a while back.. it was #1 and as-5 was like like #5 or later..

what paste you get bassmasta? as-5 or mx-1? both are great but from what people said as-5 should be changed more often... if Ncix.com has that liquid pro stuff I would of ordered it by now.. but I woulds have to go to a spcial online store who I dont have direct payment with.. no rush someday I will buy some when I upgrade my cpu/heatsink and need more cooling.

tpu user, Tigger uses that Coollaboratory Liquid stuff he says its good and it hasent eaten his heatsink since it only DESTROYS/disintegrates aluminum real fast:D

What if someone put that stuff on a STOCK HSF? It would destroy it.

Chewy

thats thier fault not any fault of Coollaboratory Liquid... Im sure there's a warning on the package to not use this stuff on aluminum... but hey my c2d heatsink had a copper center so it would be ok to use with a modern stock intel heatsink.

Ok i am not trying to flame or fight with you Chewy. This is all i am going to say. I am sure it works good.If someone does use it be careful not to get it on any aluminum.

no sweat man, I just want to try some of this stuff at 1st I was a bit iffy/scared lol dont need to waste a perfectly good HFS (my 9500) but as long as your careful this stuff rox.. its worth the extra time/care it will take to put on.. well I got some 1200grit cloth sandpaper while I was out today but I gues I neeed to try and get to an automotive shop or something soon to get higher.. I forgot what grits to use but my dad stoped at a hardware place so I decied to check and see thier selection.. this cloth sandpaper is hard to find but thanks to Dave I know where to look now. :)

Gotta update my mobo bios and see what my max OC is around before I hit 60 or so celsius. atm my ds3 mobo dont like micron memory till I put in my old ram and update the bios.. been lazy lately to much work.

Edit: yeah that CL Pro stuff is a bit dangerous lga 775 sockets have a aluminum retention bracket for the cpu lol!

My Tuniq with a back plate bends my mobo a bit. Heh.
