A New York man retired. He wanted to use his retirement money wisely, so it would last, and decided to buy a home and a few acres in Portugal.
The modest farmhouse had been vacant for 15yrs.; the owner and wife both had died, and there were no heirs.
The house was sold to pay taxes.
There had been several lookers, but the large barn had steel doors, and they had been welded shut. Nobody wanted to go to the extra expense to see what was in the barn, and it wasn't complimentary to the property anyway......so, nobody made an offer on the place.
The NY guy bought it at just over half of the property's worth, moved in, and set about to tear in to the barn.......curiosity was killing him.
So, he and his wife bought a generator, and a couple of grinders.......and cut thru the welds.
What was in the barn...............?
Go to; www.intuh.net/barnfinds/afa70.htm and start wishing it you had bought the place.

True story or not, I'd love to have those cars. I'd hate to see how much the insurance would be though (imagine Jay Leno's bill :O )

My first thought was... I hope he also found a stash of keys. But still, after reading the spoiler, the collection might have been lovingly assembled but it certainly wasn't lovingly stored.

actually, an older car is insanely cheap to insure, and taxes are cheap as well. My 79 Saab costs me about $75/year to insure, my wife's 98 Subaru Outback costs ~$350
of course, if the cars are valued in the millions....you'd want to insure them as you would a picasso

I can say based on my excperience in the field, many, many, many of those cars are fairly rare and worth quite a bit, especially if they have rare options on the vehicles, or OEM parts that were uncommon or only run a couple of years.
Many of those cars would probably be near mint condition if detailed properly, and would easily fetch high 5 to low 6-figure numbers if they were run through the Barret Jackson auctions

If that's real, I bet those cars were stolen. Come on, who would buy all those cars and weld them shut in a barn? Perhaps the Portuguese Mafia plans to sell them in a few years and was just storing them until they became worth more!
