Ok, so i decided to fix (upgrade) my old computer.. i replaced the motherboard and upgraded it to a GeForce 6100SM-M motherboard, i got 1 gig of ram for it, and a maxtor 300 gigabyte hard drive... i hooked everything up and i hear a beep, beeping steadly when i turn it on. i'm not getting and thing on my monitor either and it stays black. has anyone had this kind of issue before? any help is very much appreciated ...it really is a bummer when u get new stuff for your computer and you can't figure it out and it wont work lol.

I think one long beep means memory

Award BIOS beep codes;http://www.bioscentral.com/beepcodes/awardbeep.htm

Yes, Repeating (endless loop) beeping is MEMORY; Check for improperly seated or missing memory, memory in wrong slot(s), Bad memory.

i think i mightve not put the ram sticks all the way in cuz i was scared of breaking the mobo, also i needed to pull the com1 switch out and let it reset the settings.. im pretty sure it was a combination of both.. the ram looked like it was in all teh way and it clicked in but i guess it was still a little loose.. anyways everything is working fine now..

...now to install the os!

thanks guys for your help

very much appreciated

Good old Windows XP. :) I have a gig of RAM and windows XP home sp2 and the only time i see less than 72% free is when gaming. I know what you meant by the CMOS i think everyone did.

What can't make you get the BSOD... Maybe it can most of the time the BSOD is the RAM that is what i have been told. What is your RAM? Also you may want to make sure you are running your RAM at rated volts. But yes it could be the HDD drive

hmm.. *wonders if that was the problem in teh first place...*

i took my computer to Fryes to run a 70 dollar (non-refundable btw) diagnostic test... it took them 4 months to say that teh hard drive was bad... i got a new hard drive and it didnt work.. (blue screen of death on installation of the OS) so i took it back the same day.. another month later they say my motherboard is bad... so here i am... realizing i might of wasted quite a bit of money.. because of a bad cable... *smacks self in the face* ...and this whole time they spell my name wrong so they have trouble everytime i call and ask how my computer is doing, they have lost my computer, and they have hung up on me multiple times... never again... i wouldn't even of gottent hem to run their pointless diagonstic test if i lost all hope and couldnt figure out what was wrong with it...

i donno i got teh blue screen of death after i installed the mobo, HD and new ram.. and then tried to install windows... then i just reset the mobo again and switched the cable to the hard drive and it seems to be working.. now im formatting the hd.. so far so good.. we'll see how the installation of the os goes... wish me luck!

Put your CD back in and go like you are going to install and were you select were you want to install the OS delete the one that doesn't work than jut exit out of that and it should take care of that.
