Ok, I bought a Gecube 9550XT. I also download the softmod driver, and they changed the core and memory clock speeds, and the computer reports the card as a 9600XT.

But, after some research, I found out that, indeed, Gecube also makes 9600XT...

So, I take my card out of the case.. Would you look at that, my card is based off of the Gecube 9600XT pcb.

I have found what looks like the temp chip also on the card. The temp chip isn't detected, or anything either, just looks like it's there in comparison to other cards.

So, here's my point. I can't maintain the 9600XT speeds, as the computer likes to reset them with the softmod drivers. Not because it is too hot or artificating, it just does. VPU Recover has nothing to do with it either. It just seems that I reboot once, the core and memory speeds are that of the softmod drivers. I restart again, I get stock speeds. The temp chip isn't detected, or anything either, just ATITool says it's there.

So... Maintaining the fact that my card shares the same cooler, the same chip, has a temp chip, etc, I am guessing that the only real difference would be the memory and clock speeds. My card has 3.3ns Etrontech memory. The 9600XT has 2.86ns Samsung chips but one has an unknown type of memory. I have found the bios for all of the 128MB models.

Does anyone think that if I take one of the 9600XT bios and flash it to my 9550XT, will it work? I'm willing to pull down the memory and core speeds if there is some artifacting. I'd just prefer to have the temp chip available. And if I can get any more performance, well, that'd be another plus.

give it a try if you have a pci card to flash it back if it goes wrong ..

can you take a look at the temp chip .. is it an lm63?

I have the pci card ready. Just in case...

And, when I hook the floppy drive up, I'll be sure to check to make sure. IIRC, it is...

So, I tried it. No dice.
Had to use my trusty 32MB Pine video card to flash back.

I tried the 9600XT 128 MB versions, though I didn't try the 9600XT LE Version.

I'm certain though, in some part of the world, there is a bios for this card...

The PCB said R96XTG Revision 2.0. The temp chip, a lm63, is on the card. It has the core required, which I can overclock past 9600XT speeds.

I just wanted temps. :(

I also have a gecube 9550 ee and I am interested too in converting this into a real 9600 xt speed thru hardware mod. It seems that I can't find any modified bios, neither a bios editor to to tweak the vcore and memory timings . I hope you become successfull modding your video card so that others will follow.

I have a Gigabyte 9600xt, if you need pics of anything, let me know... not sure how helpful I can be, but I'll try. I also have 3.3ns memory.

Yeah, I'm willing to do what it takes to make it into a working 9600XT... Hahaha, me = guinea pig.

Right now, I am looking for some high quality pictures of the Gecube 9600XT pcb, to see if there are differences between the two. Maybe a unconnected trace or the like.

Maybe this will help you out. http://forums.extremeoverclocking.com/showthread.php?t=125182&highlight=9550xt

So, it's been a while since I updated this...

I have tried every single 9600XT bios I could find, regardless of manfacturer. None worked. I'm not ready to try the voltmod option yet, maybe later on.

So, my watercooling things will be here by Thursday. I'm going to see exactly how OC'd I can make the card. I also got some nice ramsinks coming too.
