I currently have 1GB DDR2 PC4200 533mhz(CL4-4-4-12) but i want to upgrade to 2GB ram.
Out of 3 choices which would you pick? :slap:
1) Buy another stick of the same ram for £25/$50
2) Buy 2GIG DDR2 PC5400 2GB 667mhz Corsair TwinX XMS2, CAS 4-4-4-12 for £52/$103
3) Buy 2GIG DDR2 PC6400 2GB 800mhz CorsairTwinX XMS2, CAS 4-4-4-12 for £67/$133
It the extra speed really worth the extra cash? I do visual and audio work mostly
cpu: amd 3800 dual
mobo: asrock nf3-vsta

if you go with the 667 or the 800 there is not much performance difference between the two

Is there much difference between 533 and 667 tho?

it would help if we knew your sys specs man, is your board capable of DDR800??? if not then it really isn't worth getting the 800 ram...
But if I had to choose then I would just get rid of the ram you have and buy 2 x 1gb sticks... it is pretty cheap these days. depends on your mb though as to which speed I would get..

I'd suggest these crucial sticks http://www.ebuyer.com/UK/product/119278 theyre cl3 ddr 667, so the fastest if you're motherboard can only do 667, however, being micron d9's they also overclock really well, usually reaching 1100mhz or so (faster than most ddr800 can manage), plus theyre a whole 2 quid cheaper than the corsair!

yeh the mobo supports DDRII800/667/533 but if the performance increase from 533 to 667 isnt noticable I might aswell save $50..

if you go from 533Mhz to 800Mhz It's noticeable but not realy from 667Mhz to 800Mhz what do you use your pc for?

Use the pc for graphic design and gaming. Havnt had any slowdown with 1gig of 533 but since ram is cheap at the moment seemed a good time to upgrade. Also better having 2 sticks incase one breaks?
So its come down to either Gring's 2gig of 667 @ CAS3 , or 2gig of 800 @ CAS4.. tough choice since their roughly same price :banghead:

i dunno, ive seen a few people only getting 900 out of the corsair, wheras tatty http://forums.techpowerup.com/member.php?u=22689 and tigger http://forums.techpowerup.com/member.php?u=24505 both got much better speeds with the crucial, i think regular xms uses promo chips, where the crucial uses the much vaunted micron d9's
