There's a very simple solution- just right click the toolbar > Properties > tick hide inactive icons > Customize > then select the safely remove icons as always hide.

The safely remove hardware icon usually appears when you have some sort if USB storage device plugged in.

If you click on the icon does it show any devices that can be removed ?

actually my sata1 hard drive does it when i move in and my reg rig is up and running i can show you a screen shot it has always been their. i read someware that it is because ppl used to use sata as hot swap drives and so because of their type of interface you can remove them. i dont think it works if the sata drive is your primary.

With newer drivers on my nfarce 4 ultra I can hot swap disks, and migrate on the fly adding more to a active RAID array. Nothing new, but different to see on a integrated controller.

Oh yes it does show it says usb mass storage device what is mass storage device anyway? On the window it have button "stop" next to the button "properties" Should I click the "stop" button? That might be the button that will make it disapear. oh wait.. on the very bottom of the window it says "display device components" should I check that box?

try properties and update the drivers, also update all your usb drivers and that might be it.

you can ignore it because all that icon does is tell you that it is safe to unplug the device

just ignore it because it is meaningless, mine does this for my all in one printer so i see it 24/7

you dont "have to" take any action at all

It could be your HDD if it's sata.
