I've got an 8800 gtx of course, paid too much here locally and paid taxes but I just got the bug for it and got it.
I think I paid $560 plus tax for it so couple of questions.
#1 for $140 more dollars would you do it?
#2 do they charge you full retail for the card and then reimburse you the difference between what you paid or the difference between retails? I can find the answer to this on the evga site, just thought someone might know.
I'm kinda thinkin I may as well do it, just wanted your opinions.
Also, I got their evga 650I board, was pondering an sli board as well but that can come down the road, only have $125 into that one. If you were to upgrade the evga board what would you go for? It'd be nice a year down the road to pop a 2nd gtx or ultra in. :rockout:

I'd sell the 8800GTX before the Geforce 8900 gets released!

Overclock the gtx and wait for next gen cards to come out.

and use what until then? lol
no I'd hang on to the gtx as the 8900s are righ around the corner, (ie next month or two) the ultra would be a waste of maoney you coul spend ona card rumored to have triple the shader power.

Just keep the GTX and try to oc it to ultra speeds.

No. Don't go to 8800 Ultra. The 8800GTX overclocked can beat any Ultra

Well, can't sell the card, I'll have no card then.
As far as overclocking goes ermmm... Will it void the warranty? This is my first really good card and I do like the idea of the lifetime warranty, I'd always have a backup card until they outdate pcie I guess.
Could you do it on stock cooling? This thing is really hot already. Honestly, I don't need it overclocked right now, don't need a better card either. I suppose dual gtx in the future will be sufficient, just wanted input on
"if you had a gtx and money invested would you upgrade for a little more?"
I only have another month to do it and the reviews I've read do show a significant improvement over the gtx.

8900 around the corner? If that's true I could possibly upgrade to that instead, I think I have 35 days left. Where'd you read this?

If its an EVGA card it won't void the warranty. I know a couple other manufacturers cover overclocking as well, just not sure which ones. Also EVGA covers if you put on an aftermarket cooler as well. The only thing EVGA doesn't cover is physical damage, everything else is fine. The GTX is a naturally hot running card. I'd stick with the GTX and go with the 8900 series when its released.

I don't think EVGA voids the warranty if you OC.If it does i am screwed.EVGA XFX those are the only 2 that i know of that doesn't void the warranty.

Well if EVGA does void warranty and allows aftermarket coolers, a cooler and oc would probably be the best option, or just the oc.
Seems as though for $140 I could be well into a water cooling system or maybe just upgrade the mobo.
With a cooler I could probably crank it up very nicely. If I remember correctly other than the core clocks the ultra just has some better ram.
Thanks for the input, if overclocking doesn't void warranty I could live with this for a while.

Hey no problem man, living with the GTX will be fine, I would recommend that $140 to WC or a mobo just like you said. The Abit IP35 Pro is a very nice mobo, it's actually what I'm upgrading too.

the XFX 8800 Ultra XXX is the fastest out of all the Ultra a GTX wont bet it overclocked so many people just think the ultra is a overclocked GTX but its not but i would say get a 2ed GTX the power from them 2 will last you till midd next year or more games dont need that much power yet so only upgrade when you need to :toast:

Er. I'd keep your current GPU then wait until NVIDIA release a newer card.

Ultra is an overclocked GTX, but the reason why it's clocks are higher than most people can overclock is because they hand pick the cores.

Yup....
Beyond that, keep the GTX, don't waste your money on a few slight FPS, overclocking FTW, and generally returning computer equipment gets your charged 15% so its REALLY not worth it at that point.
Decide its not enough down road, add another one, and buy a mobo and psu if you have to, heck its cheaper than buying a single ultra.
