hardrive help

I just bought a seagate barracuda 7200.10 160gbs Sata 3 drive. I am trying to transfer files off my old drive to it, my old drive is a maxtor fireball3 40gbs ata-133. It wont let me open my documents folder on my old drive keeps saying access denied.
Any suggestions or help?

You probably are not logged in as Admin. Or are you trying to open it from another Windows installation?

maybe it's cause your trying to transfer ATA to SATA
or if you transfered, it was locked in the drive as the folder from the maxtor as being private, thus disallowing you access to it.

Are you trying to move the folder or the files? I did this a while back and found my documents folder was too large. Had to make a new folder and transfer groups of files at a time. Hope this suggestion helps.

Turn off simple file sharing, and then go through and take ownership of the folder and then attempt to copy it...

If all else fails, download a freeware boot cd iso to image the drive :)

^^^^^^^^^IF your not sure how to do the above then^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
download unlocker1.8.5.exe and unlock the files..it may work and the utility is free.

Aww thanks for adding that, I spaced out how to do it myself...
I have used the program in the past, it works great and makes
life for a lot of things a lot easier.

what is your setup? you have format the new drive or just install the win on both?
