My 650 fried bad, praying the video card isn't screwed too but the smoke was definitely coming from the motherboard not the card.

Should I concern myself with getting an nvidia partner for an nvidia card? I'm only looking to pay around $200 max for it, any suggestions.

P35, 650i or 680i...

Nvidia with Nvidia isn't necessary. Actually the P35 chipset is fairly well known to out perform the 650 chipset... Don't know about the 680 but I doubt it.

Good thing to think about it "why" did your mainboard fry though, let alone smoke... Don't want to burn a new one.

Motherboards with a Intel P35 chipset, I'd recommend either the Gigabyte GA_P35_DS3P, or the Asus P5K.
