Hi, I'm of course new on this forums which are btw awesome and I'm having the following 'troubles':
The thing is... I have just bought this video card and I wanted to know if some of you guys also had it, because the temps I'm having are weird.
I've used AtiTools 0.26 and set everything (2D,3D) @ 350Mhz (core) and 450Mhz (mem) and it's running (on IDLE) @ 44ºC. =\! Oh and it's winter here!
Here's the screen, I've used EVEREST, the nVIDIA monitor and the AtiTools itself and they all give me 46ºC without any load. Is that OK?
http://img524.imageshack.us/img524/6381/wtfcj0.th.jpg (http://img524.imageshack.us/my.php?image=wtfcj0.jpg)
The default thingies were 600Mhz and 720Mhz mems and the temp was pretty much the same (46ºC) without load. And now, that I just rebooted the system and didn't play anything, temp is in 52ºC
I played BioShock demo with the 350/450 and it runs perfectly fine (I hv A64 3200+ 2.0Ghz, 512Mb DDR400, PowerCooler 500w, Asus A8N-VM mobo, and of course the Gigabyte without any fan, just the silent pipe II) so I'm not sure if those parameters are correct, since I thought BioShock would just not load at all.
I'm a little concerned about this, I'd appreciate if someone helped me out on this.

what are you worried about ? 46c idle is fine you can run upto 80c load on that card without worrying and you dont have to underclock it, as i said 46c idle is fine infact thats quite cool for a gpu with stock cooling

With passive cooling that probably as good as it gets, the simply solution would be to get a Vantec Spectrum fan card and install it right under the graphics card:

Passive cooling is only good if you dont mind your PC running hotter than an oven. The fastest way to a cool GPU is to invest in an aftermarket cooler such as the VF900. What are your current temps with the card fully loaded?

First of all, thanks for the quick replies! This forums =
I rebooted again and noticed that everything went back as the defaults (600/720) and it's on 52ºC without any load at all. underclocking only gave me 5ºC degress less, which doesn't worth the effort.
I'm pretty concerned because it's winter and if the temps are 52ºC in winter (winters here are 10ºC... not THAT low temps anyway) in summmer (around 35ºC or 40ºC) will they reach higher numbers only because the room temperature is too high?
I'm not sure if they sell those PCI FANS in my country (they're cool :D) but I'll see what I can do to reduce the temps. Or I'll just wait till summer and check how hot it can gets.
EDIT: Oh and I didn't try the full load with the stock freqs. but I'm in a rush right now. I'll check them later with BioShock on HIGH presets.

52c idle is high, very high. Most 8600GT owners report idle temps of 36c with crappy active stock cooling.. I would deffinately invest in an aftermarket cooler if you want to look after and prolong your hardware life.

Well, I just turned the PC on again and it's giving me 45ºC on stock. Since I'm just trying it I'll spend some time without loading anything to see if it gets higher with the pass of the time on idle or not.
Thanks for the help!

aftermarket cooling for a 8600gt :wtf:, whatever its a waste of time and money and 52c is not very high at all, that card wont hit 75c under load and it would be perfectly fine even if it did
just run atitool and see what it hits on load

The card may be fine running 75c, but its certainly not healthy, will result in deminished hardware life, and as a result heat up the rest of the system a good margin as well.

The card may not fry but the heat output will slowly cook your system (in the summer heat it could heat up the entire room), at the very least buy a PCI slot cooler, you can buy one for around 10 bucks that blows air directly up onto the cards heatsink.

LMAO buying this card has been my biggest mistake ever :S I'm seriously thinking about selling it
It's been a while and it's @ 46ºC IDLE...
r
Processor is 23ºC Athlon 64 3200+ 2Ghz
Mobo is 28ºC Asus A8N-VM
Are those two ok? It seems that the vid card got stuck on 46ºC so this is the official temperature on IDLE :S
Gonna try some games to see what's the max temp the card can reach and post again.

imo and with the rest of your system specs your card is fine and wont fry anything, there not going to run as cool as one with a good fan on being passive, but its not going to be a problem to the card or to the rest of your system, if your worried just get a couple of 120mm fans for your case but i wouldnt reccomend paying extra $ for aftermarket cooling the card just isnt worth spending more $ on

Is this your card? http://www.ebuyer.com/customer/products/index.html?rb=0&action=c2hvd19wcm9kdWN0X3NwZWNpZmljYXRpb25z&product_uid=126985&spec_type=ZXh0ZW5kZWQ=
If so you could possibly screw or tie a 80mm/92mm fan directly on the front of the card, cheap 30-47CFM fan maybe 3-5 bucks at most.
The idle temp is not the problem it's the high load temps.

Personally I would do something about temps if they exceed 60c full load. Best way to see how hot the core can get is to set AA and AF to max in the nvidia CP, then fire up ATi tool and scan for artifacts. Leave for about 10 mins and you will be able to see your max core temp.

Tie a 92mm fan on that heatsink at the back end of the card and another 80mm fan near the front end, any cheap fans costing 2-3 bucks each would do.

Well I just finished playing BioShock and here're the results:
Freqs. were 400/450 and on full load, reached just 54ºC and the game run decently on HIGH
Now I'll try the same but in stock (600/720) to see what happens.
Thanks everybody again :)

Sorry for double-posting :(
I just put a 92mm fan under the vid card throwing away all the air to the heatsink and I'm having 41ºC IDLE... So now I'm going to get 2 120mm ones and experiment too reduce all the temp. :)
Thanks everybody again for the help, I'm so sticking to this forums!
