I think £70 is the best price point for me since i am a very casual gamer. Im currently leaning towards the 2600xt because of the hdmi connectivity. AFAIK it also consumes less power than the 7900gs and of the 2 ive put up will ahve a quieter cooling solution.

If anyone can find any cheaper cards at other places it will be appreciated.

NB I know that the 7900gs performs better than the other 2. Still not sure how the hd 2600xt performs against the 8600gt.

if you don't care if you have dx10 (neither of those dx10 labeled cards work well) i would get the 7900gs.

2600xt > 8600gt. so if dx10 the 2600xt.

these are pretty good deals, not dx10 though, but probably faster than all the midrange dx10 cards

Out of those 3 cards, I would get the 7900GS ;)

Both are at a great price, but the brand names would worry me...Jetway = French crap (lol) and Ive never heard of the other :)

It all depends on if your going to use DX10 really m8. But tbh, the 8600GTS probably wont be any good in DX10 games anyway :(

If your sticking to DX9 and your on a budget, you may aswell get a really good DX9 card, like these:

7900GS
7900GT
X1950GT
X1950 Pro

Actually m8, this 8600GTS @ £110 is very reasonable, but obviously, thats if you have £100+ to spend atm ;)

And you are running Vista after all, so DX10 is an option to you ;)

I have a 7900GS. It's a decent card. I like my X850XT better though. In Far Cry I saw some garbled colors, and mega slow down in the Volcano level. Also in Dark Messiah of Might and magic it would get completely unplayable at times until a reboot. Prob. sucky drivers, but I never had any of these problems with my X850XT. I know you did not mention a X850XT, I am just letting you know of the 7900GS handicaps I experienced. I have a Sapphire 2600XT :D on the way that is supposed to get here today. I know it is not a power house card, but I am guessing I will ultimately be happier with it then I have been with the 7900GS.

Thx, i'll take it into account. Im planning on getting a mobile as well. I might have to get something less expensive than the N95. Have to find a balance though.

If your not fussed about DX10 (which nobody should be really at this stage)get the 7900GS. It can probably be unlocked to a fully fledged 7900 too. If however you want DX10, here is a 8600GTS (http://www.yoyotech.co.uk/product_info.php?products_id=4992) for £75, and a 2600XT (http://www.lambda-tek.com/componentshop/index.pl?origin=gbase28.2&prodID=B85188) for £60.
