Some people believed you still had to have the master card.

Ya you "used" to have to have a master card with some of the xt's also, but nobody ever told me, I actually got lucky I didn't even check before I ordered mine and then came across that some didn't work.

Although I may have a set of 2600xt's soon instead. I know I'll lose performance but I don't really use it, and well its just sooo much less power draw and heat.

Excellent! I've been hoping to see someone do crossfire like this. I've hesitated because I did not want to search for and/or pay a sick amount for a Crossfire master. I may try this now, if the performance is there. Cant wait for the numbers.

You'll get about the same 3DMarks with two 2600XT's. I have two Saphire 2600XT's with all acessories and only a few months old and they worked fine for METW and RTW-BI series and Mark of Chaos series etc., but I don't play FPS games so I don't know how they would do. I replaced my 2600xt's with two 4670's and score in the mid to high 11,000's depending on my settings.

Yhe Saphire 2600xt's OC very well and run cool. Fan noise bothers some people but my case fans are louder than the card fans anyway.

I have to put my two 2600xt's on sale at ebay, plus a ton of other things this winter.

One advantage with the ATI cards is that they will run older games like METW-VI1 etc. OK, and NVIDIA 8000 and above cards won't.

So, tests scores I posted are decent and I didn't pay much for the CPU (see my system specs) at ~ $68 and both 4670 cards at ~ $150 including shipping.

Cool thread, I have just one comment. How about just a single game FPS score - because ..
3dmark is just a bencher really and their '06 to 'vantage changes comparisons enough that people can argue - and some fps score would give us more a real world idea - then "the bread crab" could kabittz and fo shizzle with his score... and I could make up my mind. (pick a good game that likes it - haha! )

Anyway - it's great with no connectors - that's what I like about the whole deal - plus the smashing of the "can't be done" rumors. (glad someone else is that fired up to do it)

Some of whom or what want demos??

Some of the tests want demos?? I thought thie was a complete tester. So, this means that if it wants demos I have to give it some demos, but what demos am I to give it??

This sounds like that 4-letter word 'work'.

FRAPS Benchmarks from Excel spreadsheet for two HD 4670's in XFire at 765MHz core * 1130MHz Mem on Crysis at Medium Settings with 4xAA (I think I set it to that AA) and 1280x1024 resolution:

Frames Time (ms) Min Max Avg FPS
2870 120000 17 31 23.917FPS

Overall the Crysis demo played fine at these FPS and settings and looked very good, plus I liked blowing up the boats and shooting down a jet or two with the ground mounted LMG's. Brought back memories of firing the M-60 GPMG at long ranges with controlled short bursts, and at shorter ranges with some nice long bursts, like an entire 100-round belt.:rockout: Too noisey though.

However, Crysis crashed as do some other games, and I think I may have to fiddle with some things in my CHEAP MSI K9A2 CF-F v1.0 mobo's BIOS. Also, Windows XP SP2 gives me errors in games as does SP3. I already fiddled with the BIOS last night a bit and lowered my video cards to 765MHz core x 1130MHz memory and this seems to be working. Must test a bit more and maybe fiddle with the BIOS a bit more, but I suspect the video cards were clocked to high since the Saphire HD 4670 is not a great OCer but it does perform very well at stock and slight OC's. Stock settings are 750MHz core x 1000MHz memory and upper limit for OC is 778MHz core x 1140MHz memory so OCing is limited on this model of the Saphire HD 4670 cards, plus the cards run very cool.

I have to read and experiment with the TPUBenchl. I don't like doing that, as I have too much to do but never do all that anyway but am still pressed and somewhat lazy and don't need even a minor brain strain/fiddle-diddle ATM.
