Is it a good idea to have your case open (while the comp is running) so that it will cool the components inside (mainly the video card)? My computer is located in my basement which has about 8million vents in it always shooting out AC. sorry if this is a noobie question

Well its ok, but dust will build up faster and your compnents are open to get touched. It will help the cooling but, I wouldn't do it.

make sure you clean the dust from time to time. i clean it every 2 months. sometimes, there may has some spiderman live inside.

Installing some side fans would be a better idea. It's the same concept just accelerated. Get a 3" hole saw and it'll cut perfect blowholes for 80mm fans.

if it ain't bother u leave it open , u will get at least 6-10c cooler as it's close.& consider this; more fans more noise , old days i run my pc's without case & it was real cool & nice but after some accident i use cases ;)
