i just got finished installing my zalman 700 on mine with arctic silver ceramique. getting 36c idle 62-63 load with ati tray tools 3d renderer running. forgot to check max temp with stock coolin, but it idled at 45c with fan at 100%(i dont mind the noise, pc is 5 feet or so away)
only had 8 little ram sinks, used them all on the ram. i've read that other chips need sinks also. can some on tell which ones with my attached pic.
btw my card is a HIS 512mb agp, not the fancy iceq version, just the vanilla one.

The card will probably burnout sooner or later without those chips properly sinked, checkout the 1st post on the thread given below about it, you can skip to section 2a. of that 1st post there is a picture of a card with small black OEM sinks on the X1950 Pro chips.
Be careful the heatsinks don't touch and short out any of the resistors.
Detailed thread, read the 1st post: http://www.techpowerup.com/forums/showthread.php?t=23146

just ordered another pack of heatsinks. but if i understand correctly, i can still use the card for gaming until i get them sinked. just sink them asap tho.
going to look around the house. i may have some old components i can scavenge something from.
i put a 120mm fan blowing right at that area of the card, and found my old stock nb heatsink. now to find a hacksaw. i dont have any thermal tape or epoxy, but i guess i can use some string to hold the sink on temporarily. lol

I used to have the Powercolor x1950PRO extreme (Accelero X2 cooler).
3DM06: ~5500
Load temp: ~58°C
The VRM's must be sinked. They get extremely hot!

Erm.. Insider how can you not label the Pulse chips as must be heatsinked? Their the chips that get the hottest and the most common cause for the card frying itself..

Sapphire X1950pro 512mb AGP
So far temps state:-
31 idle
75deg max has been up to 78.
These cards do run warm with stock cooler though.
Thats why the majority of people overcloking these cards change the cooler.
Accelero X2 aftermarket cooler seems the be the choice.
The VRM heat plate has to be cut to fit the AGP version though.

On my 256MB Sapphire X1950 GT AGP I get about 45°C Idle and about 65°C load on the stock cooling setup. I had to change the fan profile to ramp up sooner as it would get to about 80°C before the fan really started to kick in. It now goes onto full at 60°C My case has a big fan on the side which helps too.

I have the Powercolor Extreme version with the X2 cooler, with the warmer ambient temps I am hitting 38-40 idle, 54-55 load, but when temps are getting cooler as summer is almost over and ambient temps in my PC room are dropping, see sys specs for my temps for most of the year. :toast:

There is a clubhouse to post this :p. Sapphire's newer X1950PRO Revision will not need any VRM plate, there is a large alu heatsink preinstalled.

before my HIS x1950pro 256mb PCI-E died idle was around 50-54c load was about 67c that is being overclocked and with the software to slow the fan down enabled with it disabled it would idle around 40c and load at 65c.You also need to keep in mind the intake for the HSF was right above my hot running N-force 4.

Check his sys specs dude. Those scores also depend on the rest of the system components like CPU/MEM, and OC. I have a C2D build and in 06 I hit around 5k, in 05 around 12k, haven't tried 03 in a looonng time so I don't remember. And results always vary, drivers, background processes, windows version, etc.

compared to amd's and c2d's. but i'm stuck in the stone ages with my old socket 478. but it works and plays the games i need it to with as much detail as i want.
when i compare my scores to other socket 478 cpu's, my scores are very near the top of the list.
the whole reason i upgraded to the x1950 was because. i put my old x800xl in my SRO botting machine(lol). that machine had a 9700pro which went to building a new machine for my mom and stepdad.
my mom and stepdad currently have an old emachine p3 celeron p.o.s
still getting the parts together for them but wont bew long till i can put it together for them.
i have so far-
3.2 p4 northwood 30cap. (bad overclocker)
512 generic ddr400
p4s800 asus single channel board
generic 400watt power supply
Scythe SCSMZ-1100 heatsink
9700 pro with a zalman 700 al/cu cooler
still need a few more parts but the will be happy when finished
after that time too start saving up $$$ for a c2d system

after a few days for the arctic silver to settle in my load temps are down to 55c after a few hours of bf2.
i should have another set of heat sinks showing up in the mail in the next few days, finish up the rest of those pesky hot spots.

Each card..
Idle : 23-28.2c
AtiTrayTool bench : Max of about 35c, with O/C maxed out at 43.5
Stock clocks : 575/608 Bit low of a clock for a 1950 but it's a jetway :ohwell:

3dmk06 4989k
Oh yeah, that's with a Gigabyte Blue Eye VGA water cooler on each :D

I wouldnt use the card for any gaming whatsoever until you get heatsinks on it. Keep that fan blowing on it though. That VRM heatplate for the acceleroX2 is good, for other cooling solutions. Dont underestimate it... that plate works really well. You just need to keep the vrms from burning themselves out. Moreover that VRM plate, it is designed to fit like a glove with the thermal pad, ripping it off would render the VRM plate useless. So DONT whatsoever rip the stock thermal pad off...
Intake on = 33*C Idle, 45*C load, Intake off = 39*C Idle, 55*C load.
Idles @ 40, full load @ 52. Not too bad. :)

Here´s some news:
I´ve installed Lavalys Everest 4.10.1134 Beta Trial in Vista for testing purposes.
Guess what has been added for graphic cards related temp monitoring?
>>> VRM TEMP! ;)
My PowerColor X1950 Pro:
GPU [TRIAL VERSION] should be 41-42°C idle
GPU AMBIENT: 33°C
GPU VRM: 57°C
After running Aquamark two times I started CCC´s Automated Clock Config Tool.
GPU VRM temp climbed up to 109°C !!
http://img470.imageshack.us/img470/5938/clipboard04oy3.jpg
I´m gonna make some good customized heatsink for that VRMs.
