Here is what I know :
AMD ATHLON 2500 +
AXDA2500KV4D ( BARTON Core/1833 MHz/1.65 v/512 KB L2 Cache/MAX FSB = 333 MHZ/multiplier= x11 )
9824157280612
AQXEA
0331RPMW ( Manufactured : Week 31 Year 2003 )

I have a very good air cooler on this AMD thing.
CPU-Z tells me that the multiplier is unlocked.

Anyone have an idea or suggestion or guide on how to overclock to the max ??
( Memory voltages/timings/freq. - CPU multiplier/voltage/freq. - AGP voltage/freq. )

Thanx !!

agp bus set to 66
then look if your ram can run with 200fsb also your board
if then set your fsb to 200*11
and then raise multiplier when it isnt stable check with super pi at least 1 mbit
raise core volt dont go over 1.85
hm look where you can go
if your board and or ram cant run with 200fsb let it all run with 166 and then raise multiplier have phun :D

I'd say shoot for 2400mhz about tops. If it was a mobile, that'd be another story. ;)

if you want ram timing suggestions we need more hardware details that just CPU.

What motherboard do you have?
No program cant tell you if its unlocked or not, you have to increase it in the bios then boot into your OS and see if the speed increased.

Well if it is multiplier locked, just set the AGP frequency to 66 MHz, and then increase the fsb in increments of 5 until windows will not boot. Then when windows doesnt boot, lower ti 5 MHz again, and then go into windows and run this program-
http://www.mersenne.org/freesoft.htm
Run the blend stress test to see if the system is stable or not. Lower the fsb in increments until you are stable for an hour or more.

Also, keep an eye on the temperatures, no more than 60 celsius while running prime95. If your overclock seems low, you can increase the vcore as you go along, but the core voltage should never exceed 1.9 volts and the temperatire should never exceed 60 celsius.

As you OC you may need to increase your ram's voltage as well. Or, you could set a divider and run your ram at a fraction of the speed of the fsb, 5/6 for example.

If you wish to unlock certain multipliers and your chip is superlocked etc or is just unlocked but has its multipliers locked atm the easiest way to unlock multipliers 6.5-12.5x is by turning it into a mobile athlon-xp. This can be done by bridging the two pins on L5 #3 with some conductive silver paint. I did this last weekend and now I can use a multiplier upto 12.5 which means at 166 fsb I can do 2075 core speed but then takin it upto 200 fsb it will be 2500 ! but my A7N8X-E doesn't like my DDR400 ram so im stuck using either 166fsb or upto 195fsb. Still not bad seeing as I could get a theoretical 2438 Mhz clock ! from my 2500 barton.

DBH....that sounds interesting......
By L5 #3 you mean line 5 row 3 or ??

No hard feelings....but I will try wazzledoozle and BAUM´s inputs first, as they
do not mess with the CPU´s "hardware"....

Anyone that have tryed DBH´s "turning a Athlon XP Barton into a Mobile" ?????

Thanx for your input....:))

Ive heard that that doesnt work on many chips, AMD super-locked them.

true but thats only if you try and unlock the multipliers on bridge L3 #5. Im talking about L5 which is in charge of the CPU's mode of operation. If you bridge #3 you are turning the chip into a mobile athlon xp which will unlock the multipliers regardless (from what I know of) provided your mobo supports mobile chips its all good !

not quite.

Turning the CPU into a "mobile" doesn't unlock the multipliers. it enables powernow! which is allows you to change multipliers, yes, but from WINDOWS--- which the Nforce II chipset does ****NOT**** support.

it doesnt actually open the multiplier. it enables a feature which the desktop chips completely lack- and can only be used within windows, but the chipset requires support for it, which most desktop chipsets dont. I know some of the KT chipsets do. I bet the KT880 does. :D Too bad socket A is dead.

its called "powernow!". Its what the AXP laptops use to downclock the CPU speed while not under stressful load to enhance battery life. This is the same thing as the A64 cool'n'quiet, but bios cannot be used to change it on the athlon XP.

Well the multiplier can be changed down, and some motherboards have a function to lower speed when not under load.

I'm not sure but some KT400A Boards support it.
I've got an 2800 Mobile on an old Via KT400A Board and it runs with 700Mhz and just goes up to real clockrate when its under full load ~ 2200 might be the limit.
There are also some Bios hacks wich allow to lower the multiplier down on Nforce2 Boards,
I'm not sure but I will look it up something with WCPREdit register changin, worked for me.

@Vulkan Bros
on my board i had to change the multiplier via some bridges and when i raised it on my locked Barton the board refused to start, might be a try to get it clearly while overclocking to lower the fsb and raise the multiplier

In this weekend I will try the things in this thread out.
( not the part with "turning it in to a mobile and messing with the CPU hardware" )

Monday I will post my results.....Thanx alot guys ( and girls ? )

Your wrong, well partially. Because by turning the chip into a mobile it will unlock the multipliers but only the ones upto 12.5x as I had said in my previous posts as it requires those to make powernow work :p Yes the nforce II chipset doesn't support it via windows but any other chipset other then nforce does, and I change my multiplier via the BIOS as I am using an A7N8X-E motherboard.

nope.

multipliers past 12.5x require an extra bit on the VID for athlon XP's, and only epox, DFI and Abit make motherboards that utilize the extended VID range. I used 15x and 14.5x to get screenshots in windows at 2923mhz, so you cannot say it doesnt work.

Powernow! does not unlock the multipliers in the bios- try it!

The mobile CPU's have them unlocked because they were never hard locked to begin with. enabling powernow! on a hardlocked barton only enables multiplier changing from within windows- there is no true way to unlock a hard locked barton.

If you are able to change the multiplier from the bios, then your barton was never hardlocked.

I know that for above 12.5 u gotta do a cut on the bridge and you lose below 12.5. I reckon my chip wasnt superlocked then if I was able to change the multipliers so easily as I do know it was a week 34 chip. That is a very sweet overclock you got there on your pc man. Did u hard mod your chip and cut the bridge or is it a mobile chip your using there? 2.9 is a bit insane ! .. you must have watercooling or something.

EDIT: come to think of it that pic looks fake theres no voltage readings etc and I haven't seen anywhere where a Athlon XP-M is detected and showing up as a Athlon MP *shrugs*

Interesting, what sticks do you have? are they Infineon based sticks?

I had problems with my CL3 bases ValueRams from Kingston, crazy thing was..if you lowered them to CL2,5 they worked like a charm on my A7N8X-E Deluxe. Got them in my AMD64 rig now, here they work fine at CL3, but crap out at CL2,5

Thought that may be the case...if not...no harm done ;)

its not fake... my AN7 had troubles with cpu-z.. it was a suicide shot on ,my slk+tornado.

In order to reach >212.5x multiplier, the mobo either has to have the extra VID to use them, or there was a hard mod for it.

The checksum will come out if you check it.. it was checked by the guys at XS with checksum.. checker.. thingys... from CPU-z...

Abits, Epox, and DFI mobos (i think there is one more) use the extended VID range, so you can boot > 12.5x. ;)
