View Full Version : question about bottlenecks
Ever since Conti got his c2d rig, I think I am elidgeable to win the most bottlenecked system award! 5200+ with 8500gt.
Anyway, I have my 8500GT flashed with a custom BIOS with speeds it's comfortable with, and it's not going any further (I could push it more but I'm not going to run it at it's max overclock 24/7). My question to you is if I OC my processor some more will I get any performance gain or no?

Doesn' t seem bottlenecked to me.
What speed is your proc. at now?

I really doubt there's a bottleneck there...
Hat seriously I'm not hating on you, this is just how I feel.

Lol, it's a 8500? There may be a little bottleneck however it's the opposite of what you are thinking.

system seems fine to me, the bottleneck in every system i say is the hdd lol, but then again, better stay like that rather then getting a $1k ssd lmao. your mem could be faster btw.

If there needs to be another club, there should be some sort of hat fan club. I would make one myself except I just started the "I'm Never Satisfied" club the other day....:ohwell:
How can my 5200+ 2750MHz not be bottlenecked by my 8500? How can it possibly be the other way around? Sure the core, shader, speed looks impressive with it, and memory is ok, but it only has 16 stream processors and 128-bit bus

OH we all thought you meant the 8500 was being held back by the CPU!! In that case, you might see a little increase if you OC the CPU.

im not really sure what the cpu has to the gpu really, gpu processes grafix, cpu processes other stuff lol. if you oc the gpu, i dont think you're gonna get much of a performance increase to your cpu.
Bottlenecks are all about having an unbalanced system. If you have a core 2 quad extreme 3ghz cpu with ddr2 1066 and say a 6200le you have an extremely bottlenecked system...
@ pbmaster, as stated in previous post the BIOS on my video card is a custom one which I modded to 680 core 1400 shader 433 mem from 500 core 1026 shader 333 mem. The memory artifacts at 450, the core artifacts at 700, so those are pretty much at thier max "comfortable" settings, although I think the shader can go more I'm too lazy to flash my BIOS again, and if I do it would be 1450MHz shader then 1500 probably until I break the BIOS and have to blind flash, which means being at last known working config, at least for me which means my current BIOS :/
For my CPU I was thinking of trying for 2.8 or 2.9.

If you feel you have reached the comfortable maximum of the card I wouldn't push it anymore. I can get my card to 700 core, but it freezes at random times so I just leave it at stock unless I'm benching.
Like I said, you may see a little more performance if you OC your CPU more, but the vid card can only render so fast. It's up to you really.
Hm I will probably try for 256x11, which would be 2816MHz, memory would be at 256MHz. My memory is at 1.9v from 1.85v stock, stock timings are 4-4-4-16-17 I believe so I figured why not give it extra power... my CPU is undervolted just a little bit. CPU-Z reports 1.44v, default is 1.5.
Today I tried 2875 (11.5x250) 1.325v in the BIOS, but it refused to POST so I had to clear CMOS. I think 2816 with 1.44V is a lot more reasonable :P

The stock core voltage is 1.5? That seems really high for any chip!! Don't know if we discussed this before, but my stock is 1.35...I can get it to 3.2 GHz on stock volts too!!
Another human error: the typo... I meant 1.344v current settings 1.35v stock

One OC I found that works well is 250 x 12 @ 1.41 volts. For me it's kind of an OC, but for you it would be really impressive. Not sure if it's something with the 6000+'s or what that allows it to get to 3 GHz so easily, but I think it's worth a try. My RAM is running at 500 MHz at those speeds, FYI.
The 6000+ IS 3GHz :/
I wouldn't go over stock volts on the stock cooler... yeah I use the stock cooler. I can't really afford one, although my parents owe me $200 from years ago I still never got it back, and even if I had that $200 sitting here right now I still wouldn't buy one though.. :/

lol I know the 6000+ is 3 GHz, I was just saying I wasn't sure if there was something special about them that allows 3 GHz on 1.4 volts...I know you use the stock cooler...I used the stock cooler that came with my CPU for a little while during the time I was waiting on my Arctic Silver.
