Is my phone broke or something?

I just got a phone off of a friend, but when I put the simcard in it says "No Service", although I can use all other features of the phone.

Does this mean it's not picking up any signal or that it needs to be unlocked? Cos it was fine when he gave it to me.

Nah I've tried 2 different Virgin simcards.

Can't remember. Think it was Orange or something.

I can't even get the stupid USB to recognise the phone with the software.

Hmm I did some hunting and found that all I had to do was change the Network Bandwidth under settings.
