still running the 7.7's and i can play most games except DIRT and a new unnamed beta that is out.

in both games i get graphical corruption so bad those games are unplayable. textures are all bright white with long "rods" bouncing around.

i tried the new 7.9's from ati and omega has new ones out today based on 7.9's. with either 1 installed i cant fully load windows. it does loading with the blue bar going across the screen. then it goes black for 15 secs or so, then my pc reboots and gives me option for safe mode or last known good config.

btw bioshock and medal of honor airborne demo's both run perfect so i dont think i have a bad gpu.

I wouldn't get your hopes up too high, I'm sure they'll add some bug-fixes for 1950's, but with the 2900's supposed EOL (end of life) coming soon, and 2950's coming into play next month, they will be primarily working on making those compete with current-gen and next-gen Nvidia cards. I am using 7.9's, but don't really see a significant difference between them and any recent drivers from the last couple months. Like I said, I'm sure they'll do some bug fixes and maybe some slight improvements, but I doubt we'll see anything really dedicated to improving the performance of the 1950 series.

I'm still mostly happy with my 1950, it performs very well for what it is and what it has, doesn't OC worth jack, but that's ok. I am planning on upgrading to a 2900 pro very soon, but I have enjoyed this 1950pro for the last 9 months of it's service, when I purchased it, I knew I'd replace it within a year or when the 2900pro came out...now is my time..

I just started using the 7.9's last night and did a test run on most my installed games.
NFSMW, NFSC, V8 Supercars, Dark Messiah, CIV IV and Stalker.

I use ATi Tray Tools and ATi Display driver 7.9.

Not a problem came up.
Appears to be smoother on the need for speed series.
Didn't notice any difference with the other games.

3Dmark 06 went up a little bit.

The Attachment is proof I'm using it.

Kursah:-
In regards to your opinion on the X1950pro I have to agree with the OCing being rubbish which is why I kept my speeds stock and the rev1 Sapphire is definitley has the worst cooler bar none.
I found my X1950pro to have up and down performance issues.
Some games perform exceptionally without one puase or stutter while others can stutter pretty hard at times.
I don't know what card I'll be using next but I know I'm in for a near complete overhaul.

Widjaja will you dump your bios zip it up and upload it here?

It could fix his problem. I remember with the X1600 it fixed the up driver problem with some of the cards.

Note:rangerone766 this could be a little danger in doing this. Both are 512 cards, but they are different brands.

Err I don't know how to dump my BIOS, I've never needed to.
Do you mean save the info I displayed to a zip file?

You can use ATI Tool or W1Z made a utility just for that purpose...I don't remember the thread or have the link...

@Widjaja - use the above utility to extract your gfx card's bios, then zip the resulting file and attach it to a post.

I'll give this one a try since ATi Tray Tools is saying Not supported on R5xx boards when I tried to Dump video BIOS.

Updated:-
Okay.
There were two indexes which came up.
I couldn't extract:-
ATi: index 1, Bus 1, Dev 0, Device ID7280, Rialto
as my PC would lock up each time I tried.

So I have attached:-
ATi: Index 0, Bus 0, Dev0, Device ID7280, R570

but why would changing my bios let me run the cats 7.9? ati says they dont work on agp cards. and for some reason a few of the newer games have such bad corruption i cant play them.

its not heat thats stopping me from running DIRT or the new beta game were not supposed to talk about.

maybe i'll rty lowering my clock below stock value and try. brb

7,9 works 100% for me and i'm using Sapphire x1950pro on agp

lowering clocks didnt help.

but, if i stand close to a wall or look at the floor i get no artifacts. only when i look ahead or up does it artifact.

gpu max temp read as 48c

i'm running ati tray tools could that be using some optimization the game dont like?

again bf2, bf2142,bioshock,medal of honor airborne, and quake wars run just fine. i think i just need newer drivers.

its only a month or so old so its not dirty yet. i did replace the heatsink with a zalman.

perhaps i overtightend it, i had a laptop video card that had the heatsink too tight when it would heat up it would artifact then crash. loosening it up fixed it.

I'm using the 7.10 RC4 (http://forums.techpowerup.com/showthread.php?t=40802). Works well for me. Can't wait for the official release should be somewhat better I'm hoping. Weirdly, the RC4 doesn't come up as a release candidate so these could be the next 7.10's. Hope they get refined and tweaked a little more if they are.

i down loaded them will try them in a few minutes.

i really dont want to tear my machine apart thinking its hardware causing artifact when i'm pretty sure it a driver issue.

Unfortunately for me, I had extreme graphics corruption. ALT+TAB seemed to rectify it slightly. Cough, I'm 'not' talking about ***** here.

Wonder why the Sapphire's Morgoth and I have are able to use the 7.9cats.
No corruption what so ever.

Very Strange.

Nevermind 7.10's are just around the corner.

its wierd but when i would install 7.8's it would load windows but smartgart was all whacked everything would set to off and i couldnt enable them.

on the 7.9 my comp wouldnt even load windows.

but these betas are fine and i can play the unnamed beta now.

Are you set to AGP 4X?

Guess it could be luck of the draw, may have something to do with GPU yields or something.

Glad the RC4 worked out for you RangerOne766. ;)

Widjaja

No mine is set to 8x.
See what happens to Craigleberry's HIS X1950pro AGP.

I think he's going to install the 7.9 drivers on his PC.

Rangerzone come to my clubhouse to discuss this. I Think it has to do with the card, try an RMA, we had another member of our clubhouse have similar issues with their HIS AGP Card. I don't know whats been going on with HIS but their cards seem to have massive amounts of problems these days.

My main OS has issues with uninstalling drivers where I have to go into device manager to get rid of them even though I uninstall them through ADD/Remove.

Tried the 7.9cat on my backup OS in my second drive which doesn't have this issue.
Works as well.

So I don't know whats up, I'll be disscussing this matter with TK and his mob.

Itīs good choice to uninstall vga drivers completly. To do that the best is to install DRIVER CLEANER PRO (DCleaner), then prompt with F8 key to go to secure mod and follow the procedure with DCleaner to completly remove Driver from SP2 cache and then from ATI folder.Only then the Drivers are completly and properly removed. Then at normal mode install fresh driver you want.

I thnk I've done that but Driver Cleaner was not removing the files.
It would say they are deleted but as soon as I go back into the folder they files are supposed to be removed from I seem them there.

If I can't figure out whats causing this I can always start a fresh install of windows.

Good to here the game is going as I will be buying it.
If it plays with stutters I can always flick it off to my bro as he has the maximum recommended requirements for the game.
