How?
run 3dmark with -nosysteminfo

You clock speed.
Those are 2/d clocks. The newer cards have 2/d mode and 3/d mode. See if you can turn off you 2/d clocks inside ATi tool/

Right click the icon/Properties/ target/ and after the EXE I believe.

IT keeps saying the target box is not valid? The funny things is it worked just fine yesterday now when i try to open it it just shows me that load screen where I guess its reading system information but it ends up never loading.
Also I used AMD GPU CLock tool to show my clocks and it says the samething for 2d and 3d can it be or did ati tool clock it down mite do a restart.

DaMulta
10-04-2007, 12:57 AM
You could try and use CCC, when you go into a game or what not your 3d settings will kick in.

I don't know if ATi Try Tools is Vista/HD cards yet.

I got mines yesterday, now I have to get a new PSU cause I have a 500W. Gonna get a 750W to Crossfire some day
its so cool. I wish I could figure out how to find out the clock speed. ATI Tray Tools reads them inaccurately. Gonna try ATITools after work.

I had no air flow on my last card with Gddr4 and it ran at 1071 just fine.

Bonerheimer_c
10-04-2007, 08:52 PM
The GPU cooler is separate from the heat spreader, and the fan is attached to the spreader by 3 little screws. I have an Antec 900 with a 120mm fan on the side blowing right onto the card, I took the side off quickly and touched the heat spreader and it was barely warm so i think it should be fine.

How does 4.2Gig sound? :D I would be hoping to push 14000 3D Mark 2006 if I can get a decent overclock outta the Pro, I can get over 12,300 out of tis 8800GTS 640 so it had better be better!

nice 4.2ghz :P :P hehe, cooking!

Well if you already got an 8800GTS 640MB, thats on a par with the XT (and faster than the pro)

The pro is basically an underclocked XT... and the reason for this, which im sure you aware of, is that those chips diddnt make the XT grade... so perhaps you should go XT and try clocking one of those rather... if its beating an 8800GTS 640mb you after.

lol not really at all.

http://forums.techpowerup.com/showthread.php?t=25995

a 4.2GHZ connie paried with a slightly clocked 2900 gets well over 13K and many have been getting their pros to well over 850 core 999 mem (fastest performance mem before hitting 1100). and with the latest drivers, the 2900's are closing in on the gtx and have left the gts behind.

HDMI adaptor, 2 DVi to VGA adaptors, dual S-video and RCA adaptor, HDTV adaptor, and it comes with 2 4 to 6 pin adaptors. There is noting in here to give you the 8pin for Over Drive.

ATI Radeon HD 2900PRO listed

Our colleagues over at Madboxpc.com managed to get their hands on ATI Catalyst 7.10 beta drivers.

According to the picture on their web site the drivers .inf file has an id string for ATI Radeon HD 2950PRO card. We wrote about that same id string when it appeared on the ATI Catalyst 7.9 beta, hot-fix for Enemy Territory: Quake Wars demo.

You can check out the story here. (http://www.fudzilla.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=3216&Itemid=34)Hmmmm

Hey all, im watching this thread as well because i also got myself a HD 2900 PRO. But the thing is there is something wrong with the Default clock i get in ATITool,CCC,TechPowerup GPU-Z they are

CCC:
Core clock- 507mhz
Memory clock- 514
(no 8-pin for override)

ATITool:
Profile Default- 507mhz core
514mhz memory

Setting on overclock Defualt Profile:
507mhz core
514mhz memory

but in the OC area it says
core 604mhz
memory 783mhz

TechPowerup GPU-Z
GPU clock- 601mhz
Memory 800mhz

Wich one can i trust here? and is ATITool realy supporting HD2900PRO yet? Are you using ATITool 0.27b when you overclock your HD2900PRO? im really nervous when it comes to overclocking so i would appreciate if i could get some of my questions answered.

Nice singal card score.

No flash, thats the wierd part. Everything says XT, from CCC to hardware manager...also ran 7.8 drivers on that run

Mine runs 75-78C full load (cpu and gpu, extended period) which is a real bummer as I probably won't be able to OC (or flash) until this winter. I blame it on the case with only 1 x80mm on the side

DaMulta

Must be the 7.8 drivers. I'm downloading 7.10 at home. Maybe I can get off early today....

I ran a run with CCC before I left at 858/1000 before I left and it was stable.

I played Quake Wars last night settings at 1280x1024 16x AA 16X AF Adaptive AA(Doubles AA), and mip map on high quality clock at 800/1000. The game ran smooth:)

What do you reckon is the "safe zone" within OC'ing the HD2900PRO?

My AMDGPUClockTool just froze at 620/820 Got a "not responding". Im keeping the Artifact scanner in the background, going 5mhz up every 1 min. And im updating with GPU-Z to see if the Clock's are set. Any better tips on how to be REALLY sure your not overcooking it?

Ended up with these scores and Clock's:
3DMark05 - 10722 640/840

At 860 the cores hits a max of 45 C in 3dmark06, idle is ~38. The Maze 4 must be doing a pretty good job. I should have tried my card out on air first, but I was too lazy to put it in, take it out, put it in ect. I have an Antec 900 and theres a 120mm fan blowing right onto the card. I have touched the PCB heat spreader and its barely warm. I am really glad I got the 900, it does an awesome job of keeping everything cool.

And the verdict... HD2900Pro. I don't have an 8-pin connector, so here are single card, stock speed results

System load during 3DMark06 = 360W (HD2900Pro)
System load during 3DMark06 = 330W (X1950XTX)

One thing I noticed and perhaps it's just the increased frame rate... the images in 3DMark06 look awesome!!! Thats about a 40% increase over the OC'd X1950XTX.

sasqui when I get home, i'll post the pic of the 8-pin 'adapter' i made...

I basically took an AUX CPU 12V adapter (4-pin), cut the 4-pin out completely (saving the pins - don't bend them or break them)...I then removed the yellow wire, leaving only 2 black wires (one side was the molex, the other side was 2 bare pins). You slide the two ground pins into the open spot on the 8-pin and you're done...

I took pics of the connection, but they're at home...I'll post them later tonight

a 4.2GHZ connie paried with a slightly clocked 2900 gets well over 13K and many have been getting their pros to well over 850 core 999 mem (fastest performance mem before hitting 1100). and with the latest drivers, the 2900's are closing in on the gtx and have left the gts behind.

Flash the card, rumour has it that you will get the increased voltage, if you dont you can still only gain....why? well......

1. Your card will be set at XT stock speeds soo less messing with your overclocks

sasqui when I get home, i'll post the pic of the 8-pin 'adapter' i made...

I'm totally a DIY person, but got lazy and ordered the adaptor from Frozencpu - should have been in the mail today USPS Pri, but no maybe tomorrow. Thx and post the pics anyway... you may even want to start a different thread, others have been asking!

My only prob is the PCI-E 6-pin "Y" cable that came with the Hiper PSU, the one middle +12v pin is a blank, so I'm leery.

Why not skip the 8-pin and just use ATI tool? Do you just prefer to do it through CCC or something? I am using 2 6 pins and its working great.

Sort of - I prefer to have the option of CCC. And maybe I'm stupid, but I never got the hang of setting the X1 2D/3D clocks in ATI tool - I prefer not to pay for an extra 100W when I'm not in 3D. ;)

Well IDK why it won't work for you guys but it works great with my 1GB card. I have the Sapphire 1GB version and ATI tool 2.7 beta 2 is what I have used to get my overclock. Maybe we are using different drivers? I am using XP, are you guys using Vista or something?

http://www.prism.gatech.edu/~gtg609q/TPU/atitool.JPG

Don't know, I tried the one I had and it locked when I started it up, and that was on signal and CF setup.

Maybe Vista has something to do with that....I don't know. I wish I had a fully working Ati Tool:o

I was on 7.9 how about you?

I need to install a trail of Vista and test some DX10 games.

What do you think Tatty_One?

I think you should......
A. Give me one of them Pro's
B. Try that winflash again but this time select "R600" instead of 2900Pro
C. Give me one of them Pro's
d. Partition your HDD and install Vista in a dual boot configeration and download some serious ass kickin DX10.
E. Give me one of them Pro's

Do you kinda get the trend here??.......................................:D

Nope you can't flash it with that. It says you can use commands, but I haven't found a way to do it. I tried for 20 mins or so down that road. I have a boot CD made at home with the tools, and bios made.

I have the link at home that tells you how to do it. I'll post that in a few hours./

For sasqui:

Cut up a 4-pin cpu (12v aux power) and get the black wires out of it.

Take that and plug it into the empty spots in your 8-pin

I used shrink and expandible tubing to clean up the wires, but just the bare black wires would be fine

I've just been reading across in the Xtreme systems 2900Pro thread that there are still huge performance issues with AA enabled in some games.....can anyone verify that? One of the new pro owneres also has an 8800GTS 640MB and he has done comparison tests with the 2 cards on his rig.......once AA is enabled in some of the games the overclocked Pro is falling well behind the performance of the 8800GTS.....but I thought the AA issues had all but been sorted? I play my games at max AA so I am kinda dissapointed now......please someone put my mind at rest!!

You use polyurethane for that.

Is there a TEC thread here? Not sure why you'd use polish and use polyurethane at the same time. (No experience with condensation issues here, though I did get a great grade in thermodynamics in college, LOL.)

I'm about to take my X1950XTX out of my PC - I put the stock air cooler back on last night and tested - it's off to eBay this week. It's about as happy as it was with water, but hotter! The 2900 will be going back in with air for now. Hope to have some time tomorrow to try the GPU block.

I still have my retail cooler on my new Q6600 G0 so i have just clocked it to 3.4ghz to do a quick test run in 3Dmark06... and it still seems bottlenecked!!!

I wouldnt worry to much about XT speeds (which by the way it can do) as for the processor you are running you are already bottlenecking it!

I upped my core and memory to XT speeds and it diddnt seem to change my score (only by a few points really, but for the amount i clocked it you would expect a lot more)
this only proves to me that even a Q6600 G0 @3.4GHZ will bottleneck an HD2900pro ;)

Sadly, the more I read, the more I find that there are still HUGE issues with AA enabled, I really want one of these cards but as I said before, I play my games with AA maxed and there is little point me getting a card that will bench slightly higher than my current one if the Pro performs considerably less in the games I play with 16 x AA enabled, am dying for someone here (as I trust our memberships word!) to say that there really are no AA issues.

I've discovered that it really depends on the game, the source engine takes a minimal hit, while the quake 4/doom 3 engine makes it seem like my old 1800xt ran it better. nwn2 seems to run better with aa on. (odd really probably a glitch in the game, seems to have alot of those) so basically because ati went to a shader based aa and left the shader clock relatively low, that why you see such a performance hit, games that run most of the 320 stream processors won't have as much of a hit, games that rely on the 16 rop's and 64 shaders will.
