Unless you plan to heavily tweak/overclock your system, I would say no. I think it is overpriced for getting a nice display and a couple of reset buttons on the board.

:) whats your water cooling set up like?

Yeah get the asus premium board and a e6850, or if you want quad find a SLCR/G0 stepping q6600 locally.. for the ram get some crutial tracers and that ocz cooler.

Edit: ha heres a deal for the ram I just mentioned :O http://forums.techpowerup.com/showthread.php?t=41139 hes asking 140 shipped new sealed box... crutial ram owns for they are the suppliers of micron chips to other companys.

chewy i have thermochill 120.3 d5 pump, and fuzion cpu block 1/2". and the asus premium is CrossFire and i kind like sli :(

Chewy
10-04-2007, 09:56 PM
The crossfire on the board is weak.. one is @ x16 the other runs @ x4.. if you wait a month the new 780i board will be out! November 12th... you have the monnies you might as well wait for it.. me I dont see myself going sli.. Im not settled into a lifetime career so the asus will suit me just right.. also the premium is ment for watercooling.. it has fans you can add to the heatsinks if you use a water block on the cpu.. its an ! board.

SuperMiguel
10-04-2007, 09:58 PM
so this one? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131181

Chewy
10-04-2007, 10:01 PM
thats ddr3 and its the dulexe if you going with a p35 board get a gigabyte.. (though they can be picky with ram) or the asus p5k premium its an updated dulx no pwms on the backside and made to acomadate watercooling better, it has thoses NB/PWM fans you can add if you use a cpu water block.. truely owns.

SuperMiguel
10-04-2007, 10:04 PM
so, let see if i want sli with out waiting and i want a really good overclocker mobo which one should i pick?

Chewy
10-04-2007, 10:11 PM
humm a 680i.. there were some threads on what 680i to get.. the reference design had a few flaws I guess (nothing to major). but the 680i is what you should get for sli.. its the best current sli board me thinks.

find out what flaws were int he 680i.. I think the quad core problem was fixed.

SuperMiguel
10-04-2007, 10:21 PM
so the striker extreme is the final answer?

DOM

I would just wait for the newer mobos cuz if you get a low OC you going to wish you waited ;)

SuperMiguel

for quad processor which mobo will overclock and perform better p35 or 680i???

In all reality, p35 is a better overclocker. However the q6600 has a 9x multipler....so to get like 3.6 ghz you only have to push the fsb to 400 mhz which should be in the range of the mobo I posted. Really in a quad core you're probably going to end up hitting the oc wall of the cpu rather than the mobo first. But if you want to go for crazy overclocking, p35 IS better. But just remember...2 ultra's basically guarantees gaming at highest settings....period.

SuperMiguel
10-04-2007, 11:59 PM
so which mobo should i get?

Well big question is do you want to go with sli and another 8800 ultra or put the money in other places like a new monitor?

SuperMiguel

what will be a better setup: both running q6600
1- Gigabyte X38 with a 8800 GTS 640MB
2- 680i with 2 8800 GTS 640MB (SLI)

Chewy
10-05-2007, 04:08 AM
From the reviews Ive read the x38 is more of a ddr3 board.. for it to really shine it needs ddr3.. the p35 is the best atm price performance-wise... I'll say the ddr2 versions are on par.. and x35 boards love quad-core cpus.. Im doing a total overhaul of my rig too lol. Im getting the x35 premium and some cool shit.. I'm going platinum in the case gallery :D

Probably 680i with sli over a x38 that overclocks slightly better.

Chewy
10-05-2007, 04:10 AM
what size monitor you using? ummm deff the sli brotha.. x38 is an overpriced board.. just get the premuim x35 and a 2900xt1gb or 8800ultra with some good 1066 ram.. and you'll be pwning.

SuperMiguel
10-05-2007, 04:11 AM
im using 24 inch. you are saying this mobo??

Chewy
10-05-2007, 04:12 AM
x38.. pfft lol it only becomes better than a x35 with ddr3 ram and do you reallly want ddr3 ram how it is now?

but yeah, I'll say your better off with the 680i & sli.. one thing the x38 has is good x-fire capabilities.

Edit: but I think the best como atm would be a x35 with a gtx on water (forgot you were going big into the overclocking/watercooling).. than just upgrade/sell your card when you need more power... that wont be for about a year+ when dx11 comes out :)

SuperMiguel
10-05-2007, 04:18 AM
but then my question is should i go p35 or 680i?
if i go p35 it will be a single card if i go 680i ill probably do sli

680i for the sli.

Chewy

I gave you my opinion the x35 love quad cores, runs cool (especially the p5k premium) than you can get a gtx.. buy a waterblock for it.. and pump it up to or past ultra speeds. :rockout:

Thats all you need for now.. unless your gaming @ & above 1080p resolution, I dont see you needing more graphics power.

Edit: I can max any game so far with my cards stock mild overclock @ my resolution, which is almost/near equivalent pixel-wise too your 24" monitor.

FOXCONN1115
10-05-2007, 07:15 AM
honestly... return the gtx, get 2 ultras, get a q6600, evga 680i sli, 2gb of corsair xms dominator ddr2-1066, 2x seagate 7200.10 sata 3 hard drivers, after market cooler for the cpu, and some good 120mm fans for the case, although i'd highly suggest water.. gigabyte has a couple systems to match the case. you won't need to upgrade for a while, unless you want more ram. :)
