I have a computer running Windows XP Home Edition. That computer has two internal HDDs:
The 1st HDD is C:\ that running Windows. And it has 20GB total of capacity.
The 2nd HDD is D:\ that is empty. And it has 90GB total of capacity.
The C:\ drive is almost run out of space (full). Is there a way I can transfer everything in the C:\ drive to the D:\ drive and begin to use the D:\ drive from there on as primary drive?
Can the Windows Files Transfer feature in XP transfer everything I have in C:\ to D:\? If it cannot, then which way can I use to perform the above step?
Thank you.
What you need is a cloning program. Get norton ghost or something similar, then clone the hard drive, then change the physical hard drive location (master, slave, primary, secondary, etc...) to the same way as the source hard drive

A free alternative is western digital lifeguard. There's most likely something that does the job alot easier, but it works.
here is one that i googled up: http://www.miray.de/download/sat.hdclone.html
free too!

I just rushed to Fry's to get an external portable HDD. I thought some how the D:\ drive need to have the OS installed first for the easier process without crashing it. But amazingly there are ways to do it without the need of an external HDD. Thank you guys.

The HDClone that Ktr researched for me seemed to be do the job just fine. And I'd also like to try out the WD Digital Lifeguard. But couldn't find it. The only one I found is the Digital Data Lifeguard that does diagnostic job on HDD. Not what I need. But thanks anyway.

Is there a need for me to purchase the HDClone Standard Edition, besides the faster speed?

When you say use the D drive for primary drive,do you mean storing data, installing programs , or something else ?

I meant the whole D:\ drive will be used as the main boot drive once the data are transfered from the old C:\ drive. I will remove the old C:\ drive from the computer once I got everything, including the OS, transfered to D:\.
