bsod with sata dvdrw help!

i just got a sata dvdrw drive today its sony/nec optiarc ad7170s i removed my old ide drive put this is it runs fine reading dvds etc i was going to do a format so i started it vista was very close of finishing the installation (after restarting were it test your pc) but then it bsods and i cant continue the installation i have to start over which i did 3 times bsod every time

things i tried

i cleared my bios cmos
connected drive to all other sata ports
tried another sata cable
flashed its firmware from 1.00 to 1.12

i reinstalled vista using my old ide drive and once it was set up now wenever i connect the sata drive when vistas shows it loading screen it bsods right after sometimes i get to log in but moments later it bsods again :banghead:

bsods only happen with the drive rest of the pc runs fine

sounds like vista and your drive dont get along

Can you get the bios to emulate the drive as a PATA dvd drive,see if that helps.

Some people have problems using a RAID setup and a SATA dvd drive.

Just a thought,dont know if will help you,as I installed my Vista from SATA drive with no problems.

thanks for replying ill see what i can do the bios seems to pick it up fine tho i took down my raid array still bsods
