The System

Mobo: Asus P5NSLI
Graphics: 2 nVidia GeForce 7600GS SLI 512 MB Cards
Memory: 4 Corsair 1gb
HD: 320gig WD
500W Power Supply
and the usual dvd drives and floppy......

Anywho. This is where im at.
Both cards are installed in my mobo and i have them all connected and everything properly.

I check my devices and my computer is recognizing both.

Ive updated the Drivers for both cards.

Went in the Nvidia control panel and Enable SLI technology.

Computer flickered and everything says working.

Like i said, the device manager says they are both installed and working.

My dedicated memory is still at 512MB which is where it was before...my shared vid mem is 1262 and Total Available Graphics is 1774 MB....

with that being said....

i got no upgrade in performance in gaming or Rendering whatsoever.

I am however noticing that the BIOS versions are different on the cards. the new card is
5.73.22.51.28 and the old is 5.73.22.16.51...

My guess is thats the problem. only thing is i dont know how to fix that, nor do i know where to get a new BIOS....or if thats even the problem.

I would love it if someone could help me resolve my little issue.

If they are both the same brand, you can get the BIOS off the new card and flash the old one with it. I have a guide in my sig. If you have a SLI bridge use it

//probably won't help but it's a start...

i guess that may be the problem then too.

one is PNY and the other is EVGA...but they are exactly the same card in every way....cept the vga and dvi spots are reversed.

but the specs are exact so oi got the cheaper evga...but...ill check the bios thing in your siggy and get back to you.

wooo.....

Never a good idea to mix video card brands.
NEVER flash a video card from one brand to another!!

ok...so its a good thing that i dont have a floppy disk.

haha. floppy disks.....they are soo primitive. :)

anywho. with all this in mind i think im just gonna get two eVGA 8500GT 512 mb cards.

im sure that would be better for me anyway. and itll only be 200 bucks or so...thankyou newegg.

thanks for your help neway. i bookmarked the walkthrough for when the other cards come in

I reccomend spending that money on this, espically since dual cards don't seem to be working for you.

thats a good idea.. but this is what im looking at right now.

the SLI prolly isnt working cause i have two different branded cards...PNY and EVGA...sooo. im thinking

two....

since im super broke...and would like to only spend 100 instead of 200.

so now im curious. how shitty is the 7600 GS? lol. pretty bad apparently. yay me and my cheap ass self.

hat? if i got the 8600GTS i would proly have to upgrade my power supply for that too. mi just have a puny 500W...but im assuming ill have to get a new power supply for the 8600GT. i dunno.

tons of options.

im thinking.

8600GT

then power supply

then another 8600GT

or....

power supply...

then 8600GTS.....

but i need the power ASAP cause im working with the Lead Animator form Rockstar London on a project...and my computer is so sluggish....i wish i was getting paid on this project. ugh.

i made my choice.

im doin the 8600GT over the 8800GTS

haha.

impulsing it.

its cehaper...

i can offord it now.

plus i can run it with my shitty power supply well enough until i buy a bigger one.

:)

thanks for all of you helping me.

if you can sell the 2 76gs' you would have around 200 which would put you well on your way, your last post sounds like a sound plan to me going off the budget you posted. the only thing i would want to point out is the 8800gt, it should be out for xmas and will give better performance for its power usage than the 2 86gt's and i would guess your psu will be upto the job too.
