Within the next few weeks, im going to be buying an 8800GTS for a new rig I'm building. I was just wondering if anyone is aware of any major differences between the two cards. thanks alot

theres not much of a difference between both cards if you plan to play games on high resolutions like 1600-1200 then the 640mb versions better 320mb is fine for my resolution 1280-1024

you might wanna wait for this there improving current 8800ts giving them more stream processors i think from current 96 to 112

Reviews say they`re very similar, if you want to economize.

If you get a card go with EVGA so you can swap for a G92 when they come out :)

G92 = Die shrink on the 8800 GTS their also ditching 320 mb. The G92 will be better and cheaper. I'd say either wait for that or make sure you get everything setup for the EVGA step up program. (Allows you to swap your GFX card at retail price for a better model) I got the 320mb version and I'm going to step it up to the G92 in November when it launches.

Statement of Bias: I own a 640MB 8800 GTS.

Having said that, I would recommend the 640MB version over the 320 if you're going to be keeping the card any length of time. The problem is that a number of the DX10 games seem to be spilling out over a 320MB framebuffer and it's only a matter of time before 512MB becomes a minimum.

i say, theres not really much of a performance difference on lower resolutions. but when you get higher resolutions, you'll need the extra memory. only real benefit of extra memory is for higher resolutions

The 640 will allow you to play newer games better the vram is alot higher and for games like crysis is shows the difference alot, and i will guess new games that are due will also be the same.

If money is not an issue, then 8800GTS 640MB of course. Otherwise, if you are on a budget a 8800GTS 320MB should be just fine.

Depends on the resolution you intend on playing games at.
If its up to 1650x1080 you will see little or no difference at all.
However in Resolutions of 1600x1200 and above the 640mb should be better.
However take into consideration that so far Overclocked 320mb cards reach higher clocks than the 640 variants. Dont know the reason as to why.

I have two 640 MB cards in SLI configuration. I'm not a gamer so I can't advise you on specifics however I do a lot of video work as well as high end graphics and these units are great.

BTW I have 6 case fans running in my (server) case and no problem with heat.

Most benchmarks on current games (not including Crysis) show that the extra 320MB doesn't increase frames by too much. I personally would just get a 320MB and then sell it or step-up (if you choose eVGA model) when better cards come out.

320 should be fine, just OC it. Mainly the memory.
