Many people said 8800gts/gtx beat 2900xt no need for Ultra to step in. In fact many reviews shows that the 8800gtx is superior to 2900xt.

....But! the reason why 8800s beat 2900xt right now is cause right now games that has the graphic like Crysis and Killzone 2(ps3 and only talk example) are not out yet. Most people test the cards in todays avalible games like:

- FEAR
- Two Worlds
- OBlivion
- Prey
- Titan Quest
- Battlefield 2
- etc....

....which do not use alot of shader power. Games such as:

- Crysis
- Killzone 2(ps3)
- Metal gear 4 (ps3)

....uses alot of shader power in the video card unit. Shader power of an 8800 Ultra is only 192,000 while the 2900xt is 237,760 so my belief and predition is.... once games such as Crysis, Killzone 2 and Metal Gear 4 comes out.... that is when 2900xt shows its true color.... or shows its tiger stripe.

I agree with you. When ATI's drivers start kicking in and the newer games come out, I think that the gap is going to be narrowed.

The 8800 has been out for so long, they got most of the drivers fixed, the 2900's are pretty new.

It's not just about how many SP's a card has though, equally important (IMO) is how fast the shader clocks run, whilst NVidia do have less, considerably less, they run considerably quicker and are not "locked" as they are on the current ATi cards,,,,if you look at the 2600XT for example, it has more SP's than the 8600GTS but the 8600GTS is quicker! mainly, but not totally because of its shader clock speeds.
