Even though Microsoft’s Xbox 360 console is expected to be available in months, whereas PlayStation 3 is still about a year away, Japanese consumers are more interested in PS3. According to a survey of 1000 consumers aged 10-59 years old, 60% of consumers claimed PlayStation 3 to be the most interesting among the next-generation consoles, 8% were looking forward Nintendo Revolution gaming machine and only 2% were to acquire Microsoft Xbox 360. About 30% could not decide. The most popular reasons given for choosing the PlayStation 3 were that it was thought likely to have the largest range of software, that it is a Sony product, and the console perceived technological superiority, including Blu-ray support, notes Gamasutra web-site.

yeh i must say i've never really been a fan of the palystation but it's definately the one i'm looking forward to the most. A little unsure about nintendos revolution though, is there really a point in them bringing out a new console the gamecube didn't exactly do well. i would say for them to stick to making handhelds but looks like sony are gonna dominate that too with the amazing psp another thing i'm looking forward to, what with living in the UK and all :(

Xbox cronies beware, the day of judgement is coming and no matter what u say the playstation 3 is still coming out on top. Even tho the xbox had surpassed the ps2 in their last bout the ps still came out victor when it came down to sales. And now after looking at the specs this time around, its bound to happen again.Sony has done their homework on this one. Last time xbox got the one up becuz they came out last,simply updating all their specs so they could out match the ps2. This time around the PS3 is coming out last,u do the math....

The Killzone video/screenshots are CG, this is widely known.
PS3 will obviously be technically superior, being released a significant amount later. Some analysts even think Sony could release it on 2007 and maintain their lead on Microsoft.

For the first 2-3 years of these consoles' releases, you won't see any difference between games of the xbox or ps3. There isn't a game engine available that can use all the "power" of these consoles.

The games that will come out in the first couple years of the consoles' release will be as good looking as PC games are now but with longer loading times.

Thanks to huge publishers like EA, Ubisoft, etc, you'll see a good amount of games come out on both systems and they will be graphically the same. Buy the console that has your favorite, proprietary game series because that will be the only thing seperating the consoles until developers and programmers get smart about creating games that can use 3 or more cpu's. You're going to be buying the same product whichever you choose. It's like choosing between Coke and Pepsi right now.

That is alot of bull playstation is over rated. Playstation is only popular because it knocked off Nintendo 64, which I think was a better system then Playstation. And if you read your facts right to all playstation fans they do not know if they are even going to get the blu ray disc to work for the ps3, think about it if was a sure thing xbox would of released blu ray disc on its system

you xbox guys are delirious. have u read the specs. the ps3 dominates the xbox360 with new technology. the cell processor is gonna be more powerful than people think. and personally the xbox 360 graphics arent anything to be gawking over especially since the xbox is so close to release. and the addition of blu-ray discs and hd-dvd discs are gonna put the playstation one up on the xbox. a dual layer blu ray holds a little over 50 gigs of data. that just completely crushes a regular dvd. just read the specs and do the math. xbox 360 is really just an xbox 1.5

oh and one more thing playstation has all the good games and the developers know how to make use of the playstation where as xbox doesnt. i mean for as much power as the xbox has it really never quite outdoes a ps2 game and have u seen the preview for black. it looks incredible on ps2 better than most xbox games even with the weaker performance. xbox cannot do shit with its games. Gran Turismo vs Project Gothem for example. Gothem sucks and Gran Turismo plays better and looks better

I like the 360, except for the fact that it still uses DVD's, which might mean we're gonna see multi-disc games like how the playstation did it. I like the specs of the 360 more, although the graphics card kinda sucks pixel fillrate-wise. For the PS3, The "Cell" processor might be better than what you would assume a 3.2ghz processor could perform, because everyone says it's a great new technology. So both are gonna be unbelievable machines, and I can't wait to see a character on a game and not be able to tell if it's a real movie theatre movie or the game. A zombie game on the 360 already looks pretty realistic zoomed out (not up close, then you see xbox graphics). I'm kind of angry that no one is making a game that can push the power of the 360 yet, I mean all these games are very, very slightly graphically enhanced versions of older games for the last xbox. I hope developers and artists will get skilled enough and learn how to use the new technology enough to within a year, get a game that looks like a movie. I mean the PS2 made cars pretty hard to tell they were fake (GT3 only), and that has less than 1/10 the power of the new systems. I'm not gonna buy a launch game until people figure out how to develop on the new systems. I mean 1,000's of people on-screen at a time is cool, but it's been done before, now there's just more people. Now get 1,000's of real looking people on screen, moving realistically at the same time, and I'll be impressed

I am going to buy them both, and decide which I like best... after I know for sure... im not going to defend the next one because I am a fanboyish douchebag... personally I found the graphics best on the gamecube... thanks to ATI. The games were more geared towards big titles, and RPG/ACTION games on the PS2, and the games were more geared towards sports, action/arcade, more towards older guys on the XBOX...

Well I don't know of a page on this forum like that, but if you're referring to me you need to learn how to read. The PS3 and Xbox 360 are both gonna be beasts, I have no bias to either yet. The 360 I know more about, but I also know that it uses DVD's which isn't good. The Cell processor in the PS3 also seems to be about the same as the 360, since it's tri-core, but I don't know either way. So don't call me a fanboy, I don't know which will be more powerful.

i agree with the hyping as its all really pointless user prefrence. im almost certian that any fanboy thinks their brand is top but who really cares other then other fanboys. i personally think the ps2 was the better console for its time as it was made to combat the n64 and dreamcast. the reason ps2 really took off in japan is the cheap dvd player it was. in the first year in japan use solely as a dvd player was the reason 60% of people purchased it. now the gc and xbox were essentionally a group after the ps2. xbox ran supirior (sp?) gfx and it had an included hard drive for multimedia. the gc was increabily small discs and all and also was a step forward for nintendo into the world of dvd-roms. so every system is essentionally different from controllers to games to overall style. its just what u like.

and in my oppinion i think the 360 isnt going to do well unless M$ gets the tweaking box out and fixes the overheating and video problems. the reason i think sony is holding off isnt because they screwed up but that they want to make a good solid error free console like the old style ps2. hell my brother got one the month after it came out and it still will play everygame no matter how scratched up. no mods or cleanings needed. his xbox on the other hand (also purchased when it first came out) has had repeated issues when it comes to overheating and disc reading issues. they both could be freak happenings and im guessing they are but it still counts for somthing.

On paper the PS3 will knock the 360 out of the water. But until the developers make use of the full potential of both of these beasty games consoles we will never know which is the greater :pimp:
I loved the standard XBOX and it was technically better then the PS2 but it lacked the support that PS2 had.

Uhh looks like the Xbox 360 has the technical specs, at least graphics-wise, and unless that Cell processor the PS3 has is gonna run things 10 times faster than anything we've ever seen, the 360 has THAT advantage too (3-core at 3.2ghz each). So on paper, the 360 will win. Plus Sony is ALWAYS behind everyone with specs, remember the Playstation and the PS2? The N64 killed the playstation graphics wise, and the Gamecube and Xbox killed the PS2.

remember which came out first with the ps2 there bud. when it was released it blew the dreamcast out of the water as it was its only compitision. the gc and xbox were released wayy after the ps2 allowing the technical aspects to far outgun the ps2s then aged hardware. now remember the tri-core 3.2 ghz proc on the xbox is still very new hardware same for the cell. but as far as multithreaded processing goes a cell processor running at a mere 2ghz will still crunch numbers faster then the tri-core. remember the arcitecture has a general core with 7 number only cores. seeing how todays games are getting more and more into multithreads and million lines of code nubmer crunching is needed to run everything. even if the main core just commands the spe's it still has incredible power. also remember that a tri-core console proc doesnt compare at all to a hypothetical tri-core amd perse. these cores are highly optimised for gaming and gaming only. for those saying the xbox or PS3 rox ur sox dont know shit. its still a matter of personal preferance and game taste. also the blue-ray discs have never been tested inhome. if these discs are scratched they are junk. who knows how that will play into things.

In the world of technology, the worst you can do is think in absolutes, nobody is always on top.
Take Ati for example, in the days nVidia and 3dfx were battling for the 3D crown, Ati was the underdog in 3D performance, nevertheless, they sold the greatest amount of discrete video cards, due to their low prices, look at things now, almost 10 years later, Ati is the performance king (even if it is only for a short time), and 3dfx doesn't even exist as a company anymore, Nintendo isn't the console king it was in the NES days, and Sega, arguably the king of the 16 bit era doesn't even sell consoles anymore, Intel used to manufacture the fastest PC procs not even two years ago, and look at them now... you get my point?
Anyway, the PS3 may surprise you, or it may not, but the thing is you should never deal in absolutes in the ever changing world of consumer electronics...
