Ok, so I no something more than a total noob, but barely!
I just got a great price on some fast 1 gig dual channel OCZ platinum(109 Newegg)and was wonderingthe following after reading several threads and reviews...

In a game like Medival war2, lots of missiles flying and smoke and soldeirs all at once, is better ie lower latencies giving more improvement than better ..FASTER clock speed?

I know it is somewhat a give and take on overclocking and lowering latencies, and these 2 gig sets are rated to run 2.5 2 3 5 or lower and some have oced them to 250(500).

Is there a general rule for graphically intese GAMES that states which gives better frames per second, assuming the fsb matches up on the speed and does not bottleneck?

depends from games to game
i might try this today, since i love medieval 2

Ahh the subject surfaces again! Ideally, go for both speed and tight timings... but can't eat your cake and have it too.

It really comes down to bandwidth which both speed and latency affect. You'd really need to do some benchmarks to find out where the sweet spot is.

You can say (as a not particularly precise example) that DDR running at 200 with a latency of 2.5 is about the same at running at 230 with a latency of 3. The first number (CAS) has the largest impact on bandwidth.

For DDR500, the timings you list are quite good - if you can get them!

thanks, I am upgrading from some odd centon ram and experience crashes, have changed mobo, ps video card etc.. seems that with the hood open and a crash just now under some stress in MTW2, the resisters/capaciters in my asus a8n32slidx are HOT and I MEAN VERY hot, is that something I should talk to ASUS about?

Well are you overclocked or planning to overclock?
